(ESP-ENG) Spaceman - Movie Review!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Adam Sandler has something and it is that very quietly and without outrageous and pompous publicity as has been seen with other things from the company of the big red N ends up giving us an amazing work or product. Spaceman is yet another confirmation, because it was already known for a long time, that Sandler is one of the best actors that the film industry has and that for me is a little underrated. To stick with the Adam of the comedies of a few years ago and not be able to see the acting ability he has for roles full of drama and a lot of emotional charge is something petty and silly. When I finished watching this film the first thing I said was: "Adam Sandler did it again".
This is the story of Jakub Procházka (Adam Sandler), a Czech scientist and astronaut who is on a space mission which is crucial for certain breakthroughs. In that spacecraft he has been in the vicinity of Jupiter for about six months because there is a strange pink cloud that can be seen from the sky on Earth that needed to be studied. But that is not what is relevant, the point is that one fine day a strange creature appears on that ship, one with a superior intelligence and who is fascinated by the human species. Jakub, doubting a little of his sanity, at times considers that all that is a figment of his imagination but soon he will realize that no, it is more real than he thought.
Our astronaut is going through complicated times, he is married but the relationship with his wife does not seem to be going through its best moment, he senses it but from where he is there is little he can do. This is where our space friend comes in, and for Jakub he ends up being a very particular and special companion, since with his help they will try to understand what is happening with their marriage and above all with Jakub himself. The film is an introspective journey into Jakub's problems and traumas, loneliness can be a catalyst to enhance all that and if we add certain capabilities that our galactic friend possesses, the result will be a very interesting plot to watch.
As I said, the story of this film is far from what you might think when you start watching it, because yes, we are facing an astronaut who is millions of miles away from home and is having a marital, attachment and even existential crisis because at times there are questions about why we live the way we do or if what we have done throughout life has been right or wrong. In all the time he has left inside that ship he will realize, thanks to the spider visitor, the things he has let go, everything he has not given importance to and now, seeing himself in the situation he is in, epiphanies begin to arrive.
The film leaves some sentences: "You long for your partner only when he/she leaves... But... Why, where was that longing when you were with her?", "I've lived life for the wrong reasons" and
"If I could do it over again, I'd do it better". If you notice they are sentences that at first glance seem profound but they are not, they are questions that we all ask ourselves but we are not able to face. A good summary I could say is that this film is made to feel it, not to understand it. And the precursor of this is Hanus, our space friend. We all need a Hanus in our lives, and when you see the film you will understand why. At times he acts as a friend, a confidant, a conscience; he is that voice we sometimes turn off for fear of facing the truth.
Visually it is very top and how not if it takes place almost all in space. It's something that is very well done, it's simple because it doesn't need more. The visual effects, especially towards the end of the film, is well done, if you immerse yourself in what is happening to the point that you are somewhat enraptured. And well, the CGI with respect to Hanus is also worth noting; it's a very well rounded film indeed. As for Adam Sandler, what can we say that we don't already know? - He is a great actor, these dramatic roles suit him very well, he always plays at the height. So far, this is the first film of this style that I have seen, a film that does not disappoint.
And a special mention to the voice of Hanus, Paul Dano. It will seem silly to know how to get into the skin of a character just with the voice is something complicated and Paul has nailed it, the feeling and personality that manages to give this creature is key for there to be a solid connection and that transcends the screen. One of the best of the film. Anyway, I give it a 9/10. I enjoyed it a lot, it's worth watching it. I don't know if it's that I'm a fan of Adam, that the film really is good or both. It's on Netflix and is just under 2 hours long. I'll leave you the trailer so you can take a look at it.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
