(ESP-ENG) Captain America: Brave New World - Movie Review!

El género de películas de superhéroes, a pesar de que me gusta bastante, hay que reconocer que en los últimos años ha tenido una caída importante de popularidad. Esto pasa por una combinación de cosas, tramas sin sentido, un CGI nefasto, todo el tema de la cultura woke que por muchos años inundaron los films y series de Marvel/Disney y que al final lograron que el fanático se divorciara por completo de la marca. Tengo entendido que esos días han quedado atrás, el mismo CEO de Disney ha dicho que esos enfoques los iban a eliminar progresivamente de toda su programación ante la merma de apoyo que se ha hecho muy evidente. Esta nueva película del Capitán América estaba renuente a verla pero al final me decidí y bueno, acá va lo que me conseguí.

The superhero movie genre, even though I like it a lot, it must be admitted that in recent years has had a significant drop in popularity. This happens for a combination of things, nonsense plots, a nefarious CGI, the whole issue of the woke culture that for many years flooded the Marvel/Disney films and series and that in the end made the fan completely divorced from the brand. I understand those days are behind them, Disney's CEO himself has said that those approaches were going to phase them out of all their programming in the face of dwindling support that has become very evident. This new Captain America movie I was reluctant to see but in the end I made up my mind and well, here's what I got.

Esta nueva entrega nos muestra a un Sam Wilson un poco más consolidado en el papel de Capitán América, siempre he tenido mis dudas hacía él pero en este film la interpretación está bastante decente. Acá él se enfrenta a una amenaza mundial que se da después de que Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross es elegido presidente de los Estados Unidos. Este hombre tiene un historial dentro de este universo, fue el general que estuvo obsesionado con Hulk en su película. Resulta que hay una conspiración mundial, como siempre pasa, en donde en el medio está un elemento "recién" descubierto y que las potencias mundiales están locas por hacerse con el. El tema acá es que la mente detrás de todo esto es otro conocido, un villano del universo llamado "el líder".

This new installment shows us a Sam Wilson a little more consolidated in the role of Captain America, I have always had my doubts towards him but in this film his performance is quite decent. Here he faces a global threat that occurs after Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross is elected president of the United States. This man has a history within this universe, he was the general who was obsessed with the Hulk in his movie. It turns out that there is a world conspiracy, as always happens, where in the middle is a “newly” discovered element and that the world powers are crazy to get their hands on it. The issue here is that the mind behind it all is another known, a villain of the universe called “the leader”.

Basicamente esto es todo el film, descubrir quién está detrás y como llegar a él. En el medio pasarán cosas como una posible tercera guerra mundial, conflictos de intereses, problemas bélicos, etc. Este tipo de tramas me parecen repetitivas, no hay emoción, no hay cabida a plot twist, no hay nada interesante, es un solo un medio para llegar al fin. Esto no quiere decir que la película sea mala, sorprendentemente no fue lo que esperaba pero para bien, la imaginaba mucho peor. Cuando empiezas a darle tiempo al film ya sabes como va a terminar todo, es muy predecible. Creo que ese es el problema con las películas de Marvel a veces, dejaron atrás que el centro de todo sean los superhéroes para convertir las historias en temas muy políticos y geopolíticos.

Basically this is the whole film, finding out who is behind it and how to get to him. In between things like a possible third world war, conflicts of interest, war problems, etc. will happen. This kind of plots seem repetitive to me, there is no emotion, there is no room for plot twist, there is nothing interesting, it is just a means to an end. This is not to say that the film is bad, surprisingly it was not what I expected but for the better, I imagined it much worse. When you start giving the film time you know how it's all going to end, it's very predictable. I think that's the problem with Marvel movies sometimes, they left behind the superheroes being the center of everything to turn the stories into very political and geopolitical themes.

Me llamó la atención que el uso de CGI estuvo bastante decente, la duda estaba en cómo se iba a ver el Hulk rojo y muy honestamente creo que pasó la prueba. De los puntos más flojos de Marvel de los últimos años era precisamente esto y acá hubo un esfuerzo por mejorarlo. También decir que todas las escenas de acción con sus coreografías estuvieron bien hechas, hay que darle este punto a Anthony Mackie, La comparación y presión con la que él vive es muy grande, considero que cuando hace las cosas bien hay que reconocerlo. La vara de Chris Evans fue muy grande y alta, es verdad que a Mackie aún le falta pero poco a poco. En realidad todas las escenas, o la gran mayoría de ellas, cumplieron.

I noticed that the use of CGI was pretty decent, the doubt was how the red Hulk was going to look like and I honestly think it passed the test. One of the weakest points of Marvel in recent years was precisely this and here there was an effort to improve it. Also to say that all the action scenes with their choreographies were well done, we have to give this point to Anthony Mackie, the comparison and pressure with which he lives is very great, I think that when he does things well we have to recognize it. The bar of Chris Evans was very big and high, it is true that Mackie still lacks but little by little. Actually all the scenes, or the vast majority of them, fulfilled.

Actuaciones. Creo que Harrison Ford es de lo mejor del film. Muy sobrio, cada vez que sale en pantalla toda la atención se condensa en él, es lo menos que uno puede esperar de un actor de su talla. Un actor un poco desperdiciado fue Giancarlo Esposito, él tiene una aparición acá pero muy corta y lo terminaron relegando un poco, me hubiese gustado verlo un poco más. En términos generales, Anthony Mackie no lo hace mal, creo que hay que acostumbrarse de una vez por todas de verlo a él con el traje. El hecho de que no haya tomado el suero en su momento lo hace más humano y ese esfuerzo del personaje por llenar los zapatos de Rodgers pues se nota mucho.

Acting. I think Harrison Ford is one of the best in the film. Very sober, every time he is on screen all the attention is condensed on him, it's the least you can expect from an actor of his stature. An actor a bit wasted was Giancarlo Esposito, he has an appearance here but very short and ended up being relegated a little, I would have liked to see him a little more. In general terms, Anthony Mackie does not do bad, I think we have to get used once and for all to see him in the suit. The fact that he didn't take the serum at the time makes him more human and that effort of the character to fill Rodgers' shoes is very noticeable.

En fin, un film que lo sentí más como un spin off de Hulk que otra cosa en donde el protagonista es el Capitán América; un poco raro si me preguntan. Le doy un 6/10. No es terrible como la quisieron pintar, es verdad que pasó por muchas re grabaciones, hubo mucha edición, sacaron a personajes pero igual es algo que se puede ver. No es lo peor de Marvel, eso si se los digo. Dura menos de dos horas. Les dejo el tráiler por acá.

Anyway, a film that felt more like a Hulk spin-off than anything else where the main character is Captain America; a bit weird if you ask me. I give it a 6/10. It's not terrible as they wanted to paint it, it's true that it went through a lot of reshoots, there was a lot of editing, they took out characters but it's still something you can see. It's not the worst of Marvel, I'll tell you that. It lasts less than two hours. I leave the trailer here.
