(ESP-ENG) Lift - A robbery without height!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
What is the need to do the same thing over and over and over again? - For me there are two answers to this. The first is lack of creativity and laziness and the second is because you understand that whatever you do you know it will work, to a greater or lesser extent, but something will work. In this particular case I think the second premise is what they used to think, put together and produce this film, which I already told you is one of the pile, but that entertains as it can. The eternal formula of the robbery planned by a motley group of thieves, each one an expert in a specific area, and with a touch of comedy, some pretty average effects and a cast that on paper is very decent, they try to achieve the impossible by fooling everyone, viewers included.
I don't like to compare things but sometimes I do it so that you more or less have a reference of what you are going to see. For me this movie is a combination of: La Casa de Papel, one of its actresses is starring here, Ocean's Eleven, Now You See Me and even Fast and Furious. I'm not exaggerating when I name all these films and series since they all have the same plot, development and ending; it's the same product. Does that make it bad? - As I said before, not exactly. Its role is mere entertainment, it's just another one of the bunch, of those we are sure, but the truth is that I didn't find it hard to watch it. So let's talk a little bit about this new adventure of Kevin Hart and company.
As you already know, we are dealing with a group of elite thieves who are in charge of stealing everything within their reach. Cyrus (Kevin Hart) is the leader, a charismatic guy and apparently always being one step ahead of everyone. Alongside him are Camila (Úrsula Corberó), the all-rounder; Denton (Vincent D'Onofrio), the thousand faces; Jorgensen (Jean Reno), the villainous terrorist; among others. The thing is that this group was in the middle of a robbery in Venice, they were looking to get hold of an NFT artist but in one of their movements they were discovered and now they are recruited by security forces, in this case INTERPOL.
Why does this happen? - Because basically there is a cargo in a commercial plane that can not reach the hands of its owner as this would pose a great danger to a significant number of civilians so these cunning thieves will have the task of stealing the cargo to avoid greater evils. That to see, it's the usual, the bad guys working for the good guys in exchange for immunity, nothing that has not been seen before. It is here where the plot begins then and how they are planning everything from scratch, a pretty crazy plan the truth but it could not be otherwise.
I honestly feel that there is not much to say about it beyond the plot itself and how the characters do everything they can to keep it afloat. The story is what it is, the typical robbery that at first seems impossible to do but in the end they always find a way to do it, putting aside all logic and common sense. This makes the plot is linear to no end with a few little plot twists that I really did not expect, to say that I was surprised, it is not something that improves much the film itself but this kind of sensations give another air to a plot already more than known. When I say that it doesn't bore is because for me it doesn't, you know what is probably going to happen but it still lets you watch it.
I think the most important thing in this film is everything that the characters can do, they are the glue needed to keep the film from flying out the window. In this kind of stories it is very important that all the members of the team have a good chemistry or harmony, they have to get along well or at least complement each other so that everything flows better and everything is more organic and genuine. Besides the fact that with Kevin Hart in the cast, comedy is always present and all the main characters have to be able to ride that wave. I think they do it here, some more than others, but in the end I think that complicity is reflected a little on screen.
The one I saw the best was Ursula for more than obvious reasons. It is a character or the essence of one that she is very good at, after many years playing Tokyo something had to stay with her. She is the reckless one, the one who is not afraid of anything and is always ready for anything with her rough but deep down worried touch. The truth is that all the characters are in the same line, none stands out above the other, no amazing performances. Not even Jean Reno, who we know is an established actor, stands out; he is in a role where he plays a villain but without any kind of attraction.
I give it a 5/10 only because the cast is cool and because they knew how to keep me watching it for the almost two hours it lasts. I didn't expect anything else, I knew what I was going to see, a copy of all the productions I mentioned before. It's good to pass the time, you can find it on Netflix. I leave you the trailer below.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well friends that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
