(ESP-ENG) Nosferatu | A story of love and blood - Movie Review.
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Robert Eggers is one of the directors who can best capture horror with historical and folkloric elements and above all within a very dense and gloomy atmosphere. Examples of this are his films such as The Lighthouse, The Witch, The Northman and now with this new version of the well-known vampire Nosferatu. The stories of these beings always tend to attract attention because their success will depend on how well everything is recreated, the darker and more macabre everything is, the better acceptance it will have. Nosferatu, unlike Dracula, is much more evil so that even today there may be some Romanians who believe in his existence.
This story begins with Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp) and Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult), a seemingly happy marriage. One day he has to go on a trip, he is a real estate agent, because he has to close the sale of a mansion to a count of a great legacy that because of his advanced age can not travel. Ellen has been experiencing certain strange things that are the result of something she once did in her youth and that may have a connection with her husband's entire trip. This journey is to a remote mountain where Count Orlok lives in a gigantic castle and where Thomas will find out who this mysterious client really is.
It turns out that this supernatural being is in love and obsessed with Ellen so he will do everything he can to get to her. Why does this happen? - There's the detail of her past. From here on we will see how everything that starts to get in Nosferatu's way will be flooded with terror, tragedy and misfortune. The first thing to say is that if you expect to find scares and scenes that really generate fear, you are not going to get them here, it is not a film of jumpscares or anything like that. It is one where the visuals play a very important role because there are typical scenes of this type of horror where what is really sought is to generate impact, again and I repeat, visual.
Let's stay with the visuals. This film won best cinematography at the Critics' Choice and rightly so, every shot, framing, the shots in open spaces, is incredible. Eggers plays a lot with generating different sensations from what he is able to provide visually, if everything is well done then the result will be this film. It is set in Germany in the late 1800's so the gothic atmosphere helps a lot in the immersion in the plot. I think that in order to enjoy this film you have to be committed because it is not so scary as such we have to help us with other elements and some of them are the atmosphere and the environment that is perceived throughout the plot.
Complementing what was said before with reference to the commitment at the moment of watching the film, the same applies to its plot. This film is not one where the action stands out, here what reigns is the context of things. Many rites, superstitions, skepticism, the typical struggle between science and the paranormal, the customs of the people of those times, many different cultures and idiosyncrasies. All this feeds the plot, fills it with a strange dynamism because you will always want to know what the next step will be or how these people will solve things. Personally I never got bored, the suspense and the way they were going to capture it generated a lot of curiosity in me; in the end it was worth it.
The level of performances is impressive starting with the great cast. What Lily-Rose Depp does is very good, almost every scene where there was a terrifying demand she embroiders it to perfection, it is very corporal her performance. But the one I really feel that takes all the spotlight is Bill Skarsgård as Nosferatu. A very imposing and sober interpretation, really the guy in all his scenes takes over everything, as always the Skarsgård dazzling. It is not the first time that Eggers works with them as it is not the first time with Willem Dafoe. An eloquent and much needed character to soften the heavy atmosphere.
It's a very good movie, very worthy of Eggers, it's not my favorite of his but it's worth it and it's of great quality. I give it a 7.5/10. It lasts more than 2 hours, it's a little long, but it's not heavy. If you like the genre I highly recommend it. I leave the trailer below.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to all, see you all in the next one!

Woooow se ve súper interesante siempre me ha encantado toda la historia de Drácula y su folclor.
Es bastante buena. Si es lo tuyo, recomendada está.
Saludos.
