Thirty-seven years ago there was a horrific terrorist attack, considered the worst ever to occur in the United Kingdom. On a PamAn Airlines commercial flight to the United States, a bomb exploded while flying over Scotland. The entire crew and passengers were killed, and a dozen people from the town of Lockerbie were also killed by falling debris from the plane.
In five episodes we see the event and the subsequent investigation. The Lockerbie miniseries is based on the particular journey of Dr. Jim Swire, a man who from the moment he learns that his daughter was one of the passengers on the plane crash, embarks on a painful and frustrating struggle to find justice and truth.
Some time ago I had seen a documentary about this terrorist attack, which probably very few people outside the UK know anything about today. It was about time that a good production told the story of this mass murder. Thirteen years after that tragedy, the world would change with the attack on the Twin Towers.
Hace 37 años se produjo un horrible atentado terrorista, considerado el peor jamás ocurrido en el Reino Unido. En un vuelo comercial a Estados Unidos de PamAn Airlines, una bomba explotó mientras sobrevolaba Escocia. Murieron toda la tripulación y los pasajeros, y una docena de personas de la localidad de Lockerbie también perdieron la vida por los restos que cayeron del avión.
En cinco episodios vemos el suceso y la investigación posterior. La miniserie Lockerbie se basa en el particular periplo del doctor Jim Swire, un hombre que desde el momento en que se entera de que su hija era una de las pasajeras del avión siniestrado, se embarca en una dolorosa y frustrante lucha por encontrar la justicia y la verdad.
Hace algún tiempo había visto un documental sobre este atentado terrorista, del que probablemente muy pocas personas fuera del Reino Unido sepan algo hoy en día. Ya era hora de que una buena producción contara la historia de este asesinato masivo. Trece años después de aquella tragedia, el mundo cambiaria con el atentado a las Torres Gemelas.
The miniseries aims to be as faithful as possible to the real story, of course dialogues and scenes have been added to make the story attractive to the viewer. In each episode there is an announcement to this effect, clarifying also that some names have been changed. The five episodes are an adaptation of the book written by journalist Peter Biddulph and Jim Swire himself, who is still alive.
Who was behind the bombing? Iran, Libya? What did the British government know? What role did the American CIA play? Is who was accused really guilty? What is true and false in the whole plot? These and many questions that may remain unanswered are captured in the plot of the miniseries. One thing is clear, we simple citizens are nothing more than pawns on a chessboard where powerful governments manipulate us at will. The only thing that matters to them is money and power, so who today is the enemy, tomorrow can be an ally if he gets some benefit or vice versa.
Colin Firth once again excels in his performance. He is in charge of bringing Jim Swire to life. The man who never lets go of his briefcase and always with his badge the phrase find the truth hanging from his suit. The decision of a man who has never stopped searching for the truth of what happened. Immediately after losing his daughter Flora in that attack, he dedicates his whole life to that cause, without caring that some of his decisions are not to the liking of the families of the other victims and even create family problems for him.
I believe he is a man who stays active and in pursuit, because it keeps him busy and with a reason to keep fighting in this unjust world. His daughter had her whole life ahead of her and it was taken away from her because of political ideals, revenge and ineffectiveness of those charged with protecting them. This is the star character of the miniseries and everything revolves around him and his investigation. The rest of the cast, mostly British, fulfill their characters well.
A short miniseries that shows us the investigation and the consequences of a tragedy that could have been avoided. If you like stories based on real events, I recommend it.
La miniserie pretende ser lo más fiel posible a la historia real, por supuesto se han añadido diálogos y escenas para que la historia resulte atractiva al espectador. En cada episodio hay un anuncio en este sentido, aclarando también que se han cambiado algunos nombres. Los cinco episodios son una adaptación del libro escrito por el periodista Peter Biddulph y el propio Jim Swire, que sigue vivo.
¿Quién estaba detrás del atentado? ¿Irán, Libia? ¿Qué sabía el gobierno británico? ¿Qué papel desempeñó la CIA estadounidense? ¿Es realmente culpable quien fue acusado? ¿Qué hay de cierto y de falso en toda la trama? Estas y muchas preguntas que pueden quedar sin respuesta, quedan plasmadas en la trama de la miniserie. Una cosa está clara, los simples ciudadanos no somos más que peones en un tablero de ajedrez donde los poderosos gobiernos nos manipulan a su antojo. Lo único que les importa es el dinero y el poder, por lo que quien hoy es el enemigo, mañana puede ser un aliado si consigue algún beneficio o viceversa.
Colin Firth vuelve a sobresalir en su interpretación. Él es el encargado de dar vida a Jim Swire. El hombre que nunca suelta su maletín y siempre con su placa la frase encontrar la verdad colgada de su traje. La decisión de un hombre que no ha dejado de buscar la verdad de lo sucedido. Inmediatamente después de perder a su hija Flora en aquel atentado, dedica toda su vida a esa causa, sin importarle que algunas de sus decisiones no sean del agrado de las familias de las otras víctimas e incluso le creen problemas familiares.
Creo que es un hombre que se mantiene activo y en persecución, porque le mantiene ocupado y con un motivo para seguir luchando en este mundo injusto. Su hija tenía toda la vida por delante y se la arrebataron por ideales políticos, venganza e ineficacia de los encargados de protegerlos. Este es el personaje estrella de la miniserie y todo gira en torno a él y su investigación. El resto del reparto, en su mayoría británicos, cumplen bien con sus personajes.
Una miniserie corta que nos muestra la investigación y las consecuencias de una tragedia que podría haberse evitado. Si te gustan las historias basadas en hechos reales, te la recomiendo.

Totalmente cierto, todos somos peones en un tablero y los de arriba hacen lo que quieren... somo marionetas y no les importa quien muere... poder y dinero y que no se sepan ciertas cosas, que no abramos los ojos...
