A mother's love is fierce, it is a force of nature that knows no limits, no bounds, and no conditions. It is a love that transcends all other. You will marvel, with tears in your eyes, when you watch this movie.

Set in the spring of 1945, Gyeongseong (the former name of Seoul) was under the Japanese. The Japanese were racist towards Joseons (people of Gyeongseong) so much so that they had no say in their land, and they were even used as subjects in underground experiments.

Jang Tae-sang portrayed by Park Seo-joon, was a notable figure in Gyeongseong. He owned a prosperous pawn shop, but his fate soon became intertwined with Yoon Chae-ok (Han So-hee)—a skilled sleuth who was determined to find her mother.

A Japanese policeman—Ishikawa coerced Tae-sang into finding his missing pregnant mistress(myeong-ja) and warned him of dire repercussions if he failed. Tae-sang couldn't find myeong-ja despite having all the intel, so he deployed the help of Chae-ok and her father. In exchange for their help, Tae-sang promised to gather pieces of information about her missing mother.

A hospital served as a façade for the underground laboratory where the Joseons were used as test subjects, getting into this hospital was as tough as climbing a very steepy mountain, likewise getting out.
But Tae-sang, with his connections, managed to get into the hospital with Chae-ok and her father where they discovered that Myeong-ja was in the underground laboratory.
Ishikawa’s wife(after discovering Myeong-ja was pregnant) had connived with doctors in the hospital to kidnap her husband's mistress and send her to the underground lab under the pretense of a medical checkup.

While they were on this mission to rescue Myeong-ja, they saw a lot of Joseons locked up—some dead, while some had their heads kept in jars for experiments. These experiments involved the Japanese injecting their test subjects(the Joseons) with a najin parasite. Once the najin entered the human body, it took over the brain and after gaining complete control of the brain's synapses, everything began to mutate, turning the person into a gruesome monster that kills for blood.
The Japanese ran tests for years trying to create monsters they could control for use in wars but their attempts kept failing until they used a lab rat and their experiment became successful.

Tae-sang, Chae-ok and her father worked together to save Myeong-ja and as many other Joseons as possible. This lab rat that made their experiment a success happened to be Chae-ok's mother and it was then that Chae-ok discovered that her mother had turned into a monster, a cold-blooded murderer, who could destroy all but her daughter.

There were a lot of eventful scenes that made the storyline a masterpiece. The creature-monster still had a mother's heart, a mother's love and would do anything to protect her own. This was a very emotional part for me.

Although there are two seasons of Gyeongseong Creature, season one ended on a very sad note.

I recommend Gyeongseong Creature(season 1) for lovers of horror movie series, it consists of ten rollercoaster episodes. It’s available to watch on Netflix, and I rate it a 10/10.

Thank you for reading.
