Hello to all of you! Dear Hive community, I hope you're having a great day today, this time I want to tell you about a new movie... I recently watched it again and, uff, what a trip, huh? It's one of those movies that you end up with a silly smile on your face,.. even if you're not really sure why you're smiling. It's like an injection of sugar straight to your geek vein. Fun, chaotic, full-throttle and a tad overwhelming, yes. Today I'll tell you about: Ready Player One. The story introduces us to Wade Watts, a normal young man, who lives in a dystopian future that, let's be honest, is not so far from what we could end up living... Wade's life... well, let's say it's not a bed of roses, he lives in some stacked containers, called “The Stacks”, with his aunt and a bunch of pretty peculiar people, but, as it happens to many of us, he has found his escape route: Oasis... you'll see why Oasis is the real star of the movie, here among us... imagine a virtual reality universe where you can be whoever you want, do whatever you want, and live your wildest dreams. You want to run around the city while dodging King Kong? You're on.

It's a huge, super immersive world that feels alive, and you can't help but think, “I wish this really existed!”. and the main plot unfolds when James Halliday, the eccentric creator of Oasis, dies, and leaves a challenge: find three hidden keys, and inherit full control of Oasis, it's like Willy Wonka setting up a virtual reality factory, literally, and I swear, I was hooked from second one.. the stakes are huge, especially when you realize how important Oasis is to everyone... it's not just a game, mind you, it's a lifeline, a way to escape a world that is going to hell, plain and simple.

Hola a todos! Querida comunidad de Hive, espero que todo el día de hoy s encuentren genial, en esta ocasión quiero hablarles de una nueva película.. hace poco la volví a ver y, uff, ¡qué viaje, eh!. Es de esas pelis que terminas con una sonrisa tonta en la cara,.. aunque no tengas muy claro por qué estás sonriendo. Es como una inyección de azúcar directo a tu vena friki. Divertida, caótica, a tope y un pelín abrumadora, sí. Hoy les hablare de: Ready Player One. La historia nos presenta a Wade Watts, un jovencito de lo más normal, que vive en un futuro distópico que, a ver, seamos sinceros, no está tan lejos de lo que podríamos acabar viviendo nosotros.. la vida de Wade... bueno, digamos que no es un camino de rosas, vive en unos containers apilados, llamados "The Stacks", con su tía y un montón de gente bastante peculiar, pero, como nos pasa a muchos, ha encontrado su vía de escape: Oasis.. ya verán porque Oasis es la verdadera estrella de la película, aquí entre nos.. imagínense un universo de realidad virtual donde puedes ser quien te dé la gana, hacer lo que te salga del alma y vivir tus sueños más locos. ¿Que quieres correr por la ciudad mientras esquivas a King Kong? Hecho.

Es un mundo inmenso, super inmersivo, que se siente vivo, y no puedes evitar pensar: "¡Ojalá esto existiera de verdad!".. y la trama principal se desarrolla cuando James Halliday, el creador excéntrico de Oasis, muere, y deja un reto: encontrar tres llaves escondidas, y heredar el control total de Oasis, es como si Willy Wonka montara una fábrica de realidad virtual, literalmente, y les lo juro, a mí me enganchó desde el segundo uno.. las apuestas son enormes, sobre todo cuando te das cuenta de lo importantísimo que es Oasis para todo el mundo.. no es solo un juego, ojo, es un salvavidas, una manera de escapar de un mundo que se está yendo al diablo, así de claro.

Obviously we have to talk about the references! Because, my goodness, the first act of this movie is a bombardment of pop culture that, you know, leaves you a little saturated, you know? Like, you go out and you see Tracer from Overwatch and Harley Quinn walking together... then, all of a sudden, wham! A DeLorean from Back to the Future in a really cool race, it's like a feast for the eyes, literally... but at the beginning, I swear, it's a bit... too much, you end up saying: “okay, Spielberg, we've already understood that you love the 80s, relax a bit, right?”. Do you know what I mean? But, watch out here, because then things change.. the movie finds its rhythm, and suddenly the references are not just fireworks to distract you, they start to make sense, to be tools to tell the story... he kind of uses them with a purpose, not just for fanservice, already in the second and third act, you can tell that Spielberg knows what he's doing, clearly, he's not just there to brag that he knows everything about pop culture... no, no, no, he's building a world, a universe that feels familiar, because you recognize a lot of things, but at the same time it's totally new and original.

And, I'll tell you something, it works wonderfully... there's one scene in particular, brutal, that has to do with a very famous horror movie... I won't spoil it for you, don't worry, but I'll tell you that it's pure genius, there are moments like that where you see the magic of mixing nostalgia with fresh creativity. That's where the movie wins you over, in my opinion... and then, the characters... well, let me tell you about the characters. Wade, or Parzival in Oasis, well... he's fine, he's just... he's like a blank canvas, you know? I guess it's easier to identify with him, but honestly, it's his friends that get the glory, the ones that really shine. Artemis... that girl is a total BADASS!!!! Smart, knows what she's doing, and MUCH more interesting than Wade, let's be honest.. and Aech, Wade's best friend, is great, he brings the touch of humor and heart to the group, he's the friend we all would want to have.. and then, the villain, Nolan Sorrento.. surprisingly I liked him too, he's not the typical flat bad guy who is bad just because, he has motivations that make sense, even if you disagree with him, sure, but you understand why he does what he does, and that makes him that much more interesting.

Obviamente hay que hablar de las referencias! Porque, madre mía, el primer acto de esta peli es un bombardeo de cultura pop que, a ver, te deja un poco saturado, ¿sabes? En plan, sales y ves a Tracer de Overwatch y a Harley Quinn paseando juntas.. luego, de repente, ¡zas! Un DeLorean de Regreso al Futuro metido en una carrera de lo más genial, es como un festival para los ojos, literal.. pero al principio, te juro, es un poco… demasiado, terminas diciendo: "okay, Spielberg, ya hemos entendido que te encantan los 80, relájate un poco, ¿no?" ¿Me explico? Pero, ojo aquí, que luego la cosa cambia.. la peli encuentra su ritmo, y de repente las referencias ya no son solo fuegos artificiales para distraerte, empiezan a tener sentido, a ser herramientas para contar la historia.. como que las usa con un propósito, no solo por fanservice, ya en el segundo y tercer acto, se nota que Spielberg sabe lo que hace, claramente, no está ahí solo para presumir de que conoce todo de la cultura pop.. no, no, no, está construyendo un mundo, un universo que te resulta familiar, porque reconoces un montón de cosas, pero que a la vez es totalmente nuevo y original.

Y, les digo una cosa, funciona de maravilla.. hay una escena en concreto, brutalísima, que tiene que ver con una peli de terror famosísima… no te voy a spoilear, tranquilos, pero les digo que es pura genialidad, son momentazos como ese donde ves la magia de mezclar la nostalgia con la creatividad fresca. Ahí es donde la peli te gana del todo, en mi opinión.. y luego, los personajes… bueno, a ver qué te digo de los personajes. Wade, o Parzival en Oasis, pues… está bien, sin más.. es como un lienzo en blanco, ¿sabes? Supongo que así es más fácil que te identifiques con él, peo honestamente, son sus amigos los que se llevan la gloria, los que brillan de verdad. Artemis.. esa chica es una ¡¡¡BADASS total!!! Inteligente, sabe lo que hace, y MUCHO más interesante que Wade, seamos sinceros.. y Aech, el mejor amigo de Wade, es genial, aporta el toque de humor y corazón al grupo, es el amigo que todos querríamos tener..y luego, el villano, Nolan Sorrento… sorprendentemente me gustó también, no es el típico malo plano que es malo porque sí, tiene motivaciones que tienen sentido, aunque no estés de acuerdo con él, claro, pero entiendes por qué hace lo que hace, y eso lo hace mucho más interesante.

And now the romance... well Wade and Artemis... meh, I didn't really like it, it's kind of... sweet, yes, but also a bit weird... falling in love with an avatar in a virtual world... okay, it has its point, but the way it's presented here, it feels a bit forced, like, dude, you barely know her! Relax a little bit, champ... not that it's something that will destroy the movie, far from it, but it's one of those points that are a little weak. What I do give a 10 to is the visual section! the CGI effects are incredible! although at all times you are aware that you are watching a digital world, it is so well done, that you don't care, you totally believe it, for example, the race at the beginning I love it, the CGI not only creates a spectacular scenery, full of details, but also intensifies the emotion, the tension that is cut with a knife at every turn and every obstacle. . the fluidity of the camera, the brutal visual richness... it completely immerses you in the scene, making everything come alive, in a way that only well used CGI can achieve.

Spielberg knows how to squeeze technology like no one else, and here he proves it, he creates sequences that leave you with your mouth open, literally... and the music, the soundtrack by Alan Silvestri... it complies, it's solid, but sometimes... they saturate a little bit with the rock classics, yes, it's fun to listen to 80's songs, but sometimes it seems that they want to remind you too much that this is the 80's... it gets a little repetitive. There's also the underlying message, you might not expect it, but amidst all the spectacle and fireworks... there's heart... it's a reminder that as awesome as virtual worlds are, they are no substitute for the real world... there's a moment near the end, when Wade reflects on this, and it hit me more than I expected... I thought it was a good balance, it mixes celebrating escapism and escapism very well, but also warns you not to go overboard with it.

Y ahora el romance… bueno Wade y Artemis... meh, no me encanto demasiado, la verdad, es como... dulce, sí, pero también un poco rarito.. enamorarte de un avatar en un mundo virtual... vale, tiene su punto, pero la forma en la que lo plantean aquí, se siente un poco metido a la fuerza, en plan, amigo, apenas la conoces! Relájate un poco, campeón.. no es que sea algo que te destroce la película, ni mucho menos, pero sí que es de esos puntos que son algo flojos. A lo que sí le doy un 10 es al apartado visual! los efectos CGI son increíbles! aunque en todo momento eres consciente de que estás viendo un mundo digital, está tan bien hecho, que te da igual, te lo crees totalmente, por ejemplo, la carrera del principio me encanta, el CGI no solo crea un escenario espectacular, lleno de detalles, sino que además intensifica la emoción, la tensión que se corta con cuchillo en cada giro y cada obstáculo.. la fluidez de la cámara, la riqueza visual brutal... te sumerge por completo en la escena, haciendo que todo cobre vida, de una manera que solo el CGI bien utilizado puede lograr.

Spielberg sabe cómo exprimir la tecnología como nadie, y aquí lo demuestra, crea unas secuencias que te dejan con la boca abierta, literalmente.. y la música, la banda sonora de Alan Silvestri... cumple, está sólida, pero a veces... saturan un poco con los clásicos del rock es genial, sí, es divertido escuchar temazos ochenteros, pero a veces parece que te quieren recordar demasiado que esto son los 80.. como que se vuelve un poco repetitivo. También hay que hablar del mensaje de fondo, a lo mejor no te lo esperas, pero en medio de tanto espectáculo y fuegos artificiales... hay corazón.. es un recordatorio de que, por muy increíbles que sean los mundos virtuales, no sustituyen al mundo real.. hay un momento casi al final, cuando Wade reflexiona sobre esto, y me llegó más de lo que esperaba.. me pareció un buen equilibrio, mezcla muy bien el celebrar la evasión y el escapismo, pero también te avisa de que no te pases de la raya con eso.

There's something that got me thinking a little bit, and it's the online games vibe they portray in the movie, they are too optimistic! i mean, all super cooperative, really cool... well, if you've ever in your life played online, you know that's very fake... but please! Where are the trolls? The hackers? The toxic chat that makes you want to uninstall the game and throw yourself out of the window? None of that, it's a cute fantasy, yes, but real life online isn't like that, no way... let's be honest, now, leaving that aside..... is the movie perfect? Nope... not at all, the rhythm falls a little bit at times, it's a little bit irregular at times... some characters (cof, cof, Daito and Sho, cof, cof, cof) lacked a little bit of affection, it's like they didn't finish developing them well. And the scenes in the real world... the truth is, they lacked that spark, that magic that Oasis has... and the references... well, it's great, but if you're not as geeky as me, or if you don't know all the 80's references, you might get a little bit saturated, right? It's like an avalanche of pop culture...

But well, none of this tarnishes the experience, because in the end, Ready Player One is fun, it's a trip, a movie to have a good time, to disconnect for a while. It's like a love letter to geeks, to gamers, to those of us who dream of impossible worlds... and it's hard not to get infected with that energy, with that enthusiasm that the movie has. I would give it... 8/10. It's not a masterpiece that will change the history of cinema, but it's a delight, you have a great time watching it. The strong points, without a doubt, are in how it immerses you in that world full of nostalgia and references that drive us who love pop culture crazy... the action scenes, oof, especially the race at the beginning, and the CGI, what a level! It's so well done that you really believe you're in there. It's got its little message hidden in there... so, my people, if you like pop culture, video games, or just want to have a good time, this is your movie! See you in the next review. Hay que hablar de algo que me dejo pensando un poquito, y es la onda de los juegos online que pintan en la peli, son ¡demasiado optimistas! o sea, todos súper cooperativos, re buena onda.. bueno, si alguna vez en tu vida has jugado online, sabes que eso es muy falso.. pero por favor! ¿Dónde están los trolls? ¿Los hackers? ¡El chat tóxico que te hace querer desinstalar el juego y tirarte por la ventana? Nada de eso, es una fantasía linda, sí, pero la vida real online no es así, ni de broma.. seamos sinceros, ahora, dejando eso de lado... ¿es perfecta la película? Nop.. para nada, el ritmo como que se cae un poquito por ratos, es un poquito irregular por ratos.. algunos personajes (cof, cof, Daito y Sho, cof, cof) como que les faltó un poquito de cariño, como que no los terminaron de desarrollar bien. Y las escenas en el mundo real... la verdad, como que les faltaba esa chispa, esa magia que sí tiene Oasis.. y lo de las referencias... a ver, está genial, pero si no eres tan geek como yo, o si no te sabes todas las referencias ochenteras, capaz te satures un poquito, ¿no? Es como una avalancha de cultura pop..

Pero bueno,. nada de esto empaña la experiencia, porque en el fondo, Ready Player One es divertida, es un viaje, una película para pasarla bien, para desconectarte un rato. Es como una carta de amor para los geeks, para los gamers, para los que soñamos con mundos imposibles.. y es difícil no contagiarse con esa energía, con ese entusiasmo que tiene la peli. Yo le daría un... Un 8/10, así, redondito, no es una obra maestra que va a cambiar la historia del cine, pero es un deleite, te lo pasas genial viéndola. Los puntos fuertes, sin duda, están en cómo te sumerge en ese mundo lleno de nostalgia y referencias que a nosotros los que amamos la cultura pop nos vuelven locos.. las escenas de acción, ¡ufff!, sobre todo la carrera del principio, y el CGI, ¡qué nivel! Está tan bien hecho que de verdad te crees que estás ahí dentro. Tiene su mensajito ahí escondido.. así que, mi gente, si les gusta la cultura pop, los videojuegos, o simplemente quieren pasarla bien un rato, ¡esta es tu película! Nos veremos en la próxima reseña.
