Hello everybody! Dear Movies and Tv Shows community, lovers of good stories. Today, I want to share with you a new review, this time of a very cool series, which I feel has gone unnoticed. It is about: Severance. This series is one of the most original proposals I've seen in a long time... from the beginning it feels like a direct hit, and it might be a little difficult to understand, but you can quickly get into the rhythm. The story centers around a company that has developed a new technology to completely separate the work life, and personal life of all its employees... by means of a microchip implanted in their brains. In this way, employees have no memory of their personal lives while they are at work, and vice versa.

This crazy sci-fi concept, resonates a lot with the current discussions about work-life balance, this series with only its first episode, captures an eerie atmosphere, with a very minimalist setting, we will see long white corridors, and extremely small spaces, creating a sense of claustrophobia and disorientation that is great! Each scene is very well designed to increase the mystery, Ben Stiller, who directs most of the series, has a great control over the tones, and the overall aesthetics, making each shot in a way that leaves the viewer bewildered.

El día de hoy, quiero compartirles una nueva reseña, esta vez de una serie muy genial, que siento que ha pasado desapercibida. Se trata de: Severance. Esta serie es una de las propuestas más originales que he visto en mucho tiempo.. desde el principio se siente como un golpe directo, y puede ser que se te dificulte entender un poco, pero rápidamente le puedes agarrar el ritmo. La historia se centra en una empresa que ha desarrollado una nueva tecnología para separar por completo la vida laboral, y la vida personal de todos sus empleados.. mediante un microchip implantado en sus cerebros. De esta manera, los empleados no tienen ningún recuerdo de su vida personal mientras ellos estén trabajando, y viceversa.

Este loco concepto de ciencia ficción, resuena mucho con las discusiones que se tiene actualmente sobre el equilibrio entre trabajo-vida personal, esta serie con solo su primer episodio, captura una atmosfera inquietante, con una puesta en escena muy minimalista, veremos largos pasillos blancos, y espacios sumamente reducidos, creando una sensación de claustrofobia y desorientación que es genial! Cada escena está muy bien diseñada para aumentar el misterio, Ben Stiller, quien dirige la mayoría de la serie.. tiene un gran control sobre los tonos, y la estética general, logrando que cada plano de una manera deje desconcertado al espectador.

Adam Scott, who you may recognize from some comedies like Recreation, surprises everyone playing Mark, the protagonist of this great series. The performance is very balanced, he perfectly conveys the vulnerability, and determination of this character. Without a doubt, he is the heart of this series, it is great to see his struggle to understand his own fragmented existence, it is touching and at the same time somewhat disturbing.... The series has some pretty solid supporting characters as well, who bring depth and good complexity to their roles.

One of the things that impressed me about this series, is how it handles all the mystery surrounding the narrative... this series, like some others, doesn't rush to reveal its secrets, but instead slowly builds a web of intrigue.. and several unanswered questions that keep the viewer very hooked. Each episode leaves some subtle clues, that invite the people watching to speculate, and analyze what they see... it's a series that makes you think, like the ones I love! It forces you to question the motivations of some characters, and the real intentions of the company.

Adam Scott, que quizá reconozcan por algunas comedias como Recreation, sorprende a todo el mundo interpretando a Mark, el protagonista de esta gran serie. La actuación es muy equilibrada, transmite perfectamente la vulnerabilidad, y la determinación de este personaje. Sin duda, es el corazón de esta serie, es genial ver su lucha por entender su propia existencia fragmentada, es conmovedor y a la vez algo perturbador.. La serie cuenta con personajes de apoyo bastante sólidos también, quienes aportan profundidad y buena complejidad a sus roles.

Una de las cosas que me impresiono de esta serie, es como maneja todo el misterio que rodea la narrativa.. esta serie, como algunas otras, no se apresura en revelar sus secretos, sino que va construyendo lentamente una red de intrigas.. y varias preguntas sin respuesta que mantienen al espectador muy enganchado. Cada episodio va dejando algunas pistas sutiles, que invitan a las personas que la están viendo a especular, y analizar lo que ven.. es una serie que te hace pensar, como las que me encantan! Te obliga a cuestionar las motivaciones de algunos personajes, y las intenciones reales de la empresa.

The script is simply brilliant! It's great the ability they have had to mix several genres... Although it is mainly framed in science fiction, it also has moments of black humor and a very dramatic background, which makes you feel super intrigued. The dialogues are well sharpened, and many times they drag an irony that adds a lot to what would be social criticism, which they are clearly doing. This series tackles issues like dehumanization at work, how people lose their identity, and clearly corporate manipulation in such an entertaining, but also disturbing way.

The art direction deserves a special mention, no doubt... the aesthetic it gives you, retro, yet futuristic, with the classic old computers and all the decor, contributes a lot to the sense of weirdness, and timelessness. It feels like the series itself is set in a future that wouldn't be uncommon to witness... And as for the music... I feel it's very good too, it does its job which is to complement the atmosphere, having melancholic themes, and other stranger ones.

El guion es sencillamente brillante! Es genial la capacidad que han tenido para mezclar varios géneros.. Aunque se enmarca principalmente en la ciencia ficción así medio distópica, también tiene momentos de humor negro y un trasfondo muy dramático, que te hace sentir super intrigado. Los diálogos son bien afilados, y muchas veces arrastran una ironía que añade mucho a lo que sería la crítica social, que claramente están haciendo. Esta serie aborda temas como la deshumanización en el trabajo, como las personas pierden su identidad, y claramente la manipulación corporativa de una manera tan entretenida, pero también inquietante.

La dirección artística merece una mención especial, sin dudas.. la estética que te transmite, retro, pero futurista, con las clásicas computadoras antiguas y toda la decoración, contribuye mucho a la sensación de rareza, y atemporalidad. Se siente como si la propia serie estuviera ambientada en un futuro que no sería raro presenciar.. Y en cuanto a la música.. siento que está muy buena también, cumple con lo suyo que es complementar a la atmósfera, teniendo temas melancólicos, y otros más extraños.

Another interesting aspect to highlight is how well the duality of the characters is portrayed, the insider and the outsider, as they call them... they are two totally different people, and the actors did an amazing job portraying these two facets of their characters to perfection. This is great because it adds to the complexity of the narrative, as it makes the viewer not only have to simply understand the characters, but also see how they relate to themselves and the world around them.

Although in terms of pacing, there are a few times when the pace slows down a bit, allowing for themes to be explored in a deeper way, and of course, building suspense that will build over the course of the episodes. Each one of them has a climax that leaves you wanting more, I definitely recommend it highly...it's a series that defies convention and offers a truly unique experience, one that won't let you rest. It is a great exploration of the human mind, and the many power structures that shape each of our lives, with incredible performances, impeccable direction, and an excellent script, it becomes the best productions I have seen in a long time.

Otro aspecto interesante a destacar es la buena manera en la que se representa la dualidad de los personajes, los de adentro y los de afuera, así como los llaman.. son dos personas totalmente diferentes, y los actores supieron hacer un trabajo increíble al retratar estas dos facetas de sus personajes a la perfección. Esto es genial porque aumenta la complejidad de la narrativa, ya que hace que el espectador no solo deba simplemente entender a los personajes, sino también ver como ellos se relacionan con ellos mismos y el mundo que los rodea.

Aunque en términos de ritmo, hay algunas veces en las que el ritmo baja un poco, lo que permite que se puedan explorar temas de manera más profunda, y claro, que se construya un suspenso que irá en aumento a lo largo de los episodios. Cada uno de ellos tiene un clímax que te dejan con ganas de más, sin duda la recomiendo mucho.. es una serie que desafía las convenciones y ofrece una experiencia realmente única, que no te deja descansar. Es una gran exploración de la mente humana, y de las muchas estructuras de poder que moldean cada una de nuestras vidas, con increíbles actuaciones, una dirección impecable, y un excelente guion, se convierte en las mejores producciones que he visto en mucho tiempo.

Le doy de calificación un sólido 9.5/10. ¡Es una increíble obra moderna, que merece mucho ser vista, y reconocida! Sin duda, deberían darle una oportunidad. Les compartiré el tráiler para que le den un pequeño vistazo, cuídense mucho!
