Hello everyone! I hope you are feeling great today. I want to share with all of you a new review with my opinions, this time of a movie that is not really my kind of movie, since the stories of the far west, well the truth, I had never called my attention.. but due to the praise it received, I decided to give it a chance... I'm talking about the movie: The Power of The Dog, from Netflix. This movie immerses us in a plot that combines elements of the Wild West genre, with a classic psychological thriller... all wrapped in a dense atmosphere.

The film transports us to the desolate mountains of Montana in 1925, where the beauty of nature is appreciated, and where everything seems to be silent, except for the human conflicts that develop. The story introduces us to two very different men, but who are brothers.... Phil, played by the sorcerer supreme haha, the good Benedict Cumberbatch and George, played by Jesse Plemons. Phil is a fierce cowboy, whose somewhat rough and aggressive behaviors totally contract with George's mostly gentle and reserved nature. This contrast between the brothers is further intensified when George marries Rose, a widow played by actress Kristen Dunst, and introduces their son to the complicated family dynamic.

Hola a todos! Espero que se encuentren súper bien el día de hoy. Quiero compartir con todos ustedes una nueva reseña con mis opiniones, esta vez de una película que realmente no es mi tipo de película, ya que las historias del lejano oeste, pues la verdad, nunca me habían llamado la atención.. pero debido a los elogios que recibió, decidí darle una oportunidad.. Hablo de la película: The Power of The Dog, de Netflix. Esta película nos sumerge en una trama que combina elementos del género del lejano oeste, con un clásico thriller psicológico.. todo envuelto en una atmósfera densa.

La cinta nos transporta a las desoladas montañas de Montana en 1925, donde la belleza de la naturaleza se aprecia, y en donde todo parece estar en silencio, excepto por los conflictos humanos que se desarrollan. La historia nos presentan a dos hombres muy diferentes, pero que son hermanos.. Phil, interpretado por el hechicero supremo jaja, el buen Benedict Cumberbatch y George, interpretado por Jesse Plemons. Phil es un vaquero feroz, cuyo comportamientos algo rudos y agresivos contratan totalmente con la naturaleza más que todo amable y reservada de George. Este contraste entre los hermanos se intensifica mucho más cuando George se casa con Rose, una viuda interpretada por la actriz Kristen Dunst, e introduce a su hijo a la complicada dinámica familiar.

As the film begins, the first thing that stands out is the great cinematography, the landscapes are spot on, and capture all the melancholic beauty of the locations. The framing is carefully composed to give a sense of remoteness. There is a lot of attention to detail, also the soundtrack is very ideal, I really liked it.. The film delves into themes such as masculinity, identity, and gender roles, exploring much more how lack of understanding and acceptance can lead to violence and resentment. Phil is a very complex character. His outward aggressiveness masks a vulnerability and a deep fear... Benedict manages to convey this duality very well with an intimidating yet moving performance. The character's gradual transformation is a testament to the actor's ability to explore the depths of emotion.

On the other hand, Jesse also delivers a very good performance, subtle but very much in keeping with his character. His quiet character and innate goodness provides the viewers to quickly connect with him. Rose's character is also interesting, she is a woman struggling to find her place, in a very male dominated society. Dunst's performance is very touching, how she shows her fragility and the strength of her character in the face of all the adversities she has to face or has faced in her life.

Al empezar la película, lo primero que destaca es la gran cinematografía, los paisajes son muy acertados, y capturan toda la belleza melancólicas de las localidades. Los encuadres están cuidadosamente compuestos para dar una sensación de lejanía.. Hay mucha atención al detalle, también la banda sonora es muy ideal, me gustó mucho.. La película profundiza en temas como la masculinidad, la identidad, y los roles de género, explorando mucho más como la falta de comprensión y aceptación puede llevar a la violencia y el resentimiento. Phil es un personaje muy complejo.. Su agresividad exterior oculta una vulnerabilidad y un miedo profundo.. Benedict logra transmitir muy bien esta dualidad con una actuación intimidante y a la vez conmovedora. La transformación que va poco a poco teniendo este personaje es un testimonio de la habilidad actoral del actor, para explorar las profundidades de las emociones.

Por otro lado, Jesse también ofrece una actuación muy buena, sutil pero muy acorde a su personaje.. Su carácter tranquilo y su bondad innata proporciona que los espectadores conecten rápidamente con el. También el personaje de Rose es interesante, es una mujer que lucha por encontrar su lugar, en una sociedad muy dominada por los hombres. La actuación de Dunst es muy conmovedora, el cómo muestra su fragilidad y la fortaleza de su personaje ante todas las adversidades que tiene que enfrentar o que ha enfrentado en su vida.

The script weaves a plot that is as much a psychological exploration as it is a suspenseful story. The director takes us by the hand through a narrative that builds slowly... revealing little by little the layers of the characters and their motivations. Although this may be a bit boring for many people, so it can't get too big for them...I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bored at the beginning. So if you are used to faster paces, the beginning of this story takes its time.

Among other interesting aspects in this movie, is how it uses the setting of the old west not just as a background, but you feel it as a character, it's very interesting how you feel the place present at all times, you know it wouldn't be anything like it in another location, the imposing mountains.. the big vast sky, create a sense of isolation and claustrophobia very interesting, and this is reflected very well in the characters.

The interactions between Phil and Rose's son, adds a lot of complexity to the story...this young man is someone who defies all traditional expectations of typical masculinity, in an era where such deviations from what is considered "normal" are not at all welcome. The relationship of the tough Phil with this boy becomes very interesting, making their scenes together some of the best in the film, full of intense emotions.

El guion teje una trama que es tanto una exploración psicológica, como una historia con buen suspenso. La directora nos lleva de la mano a través de una narrativa que se construye lentamente.. revelando poco a poco las capas de los personajes y sus motivaciones. Aunque esto puede ser algo aburrido para muchas personas, así que no les puede agrandar tanto.. mentiría si dijera que no me aburrí un poco al principio. Así que si están acostumbrados a ritmos más rápidos, pues el comienzo de esta historia se toma su tiempo.

Entre otros aspectos interesantes en esta película, es como utiliza la ambientación del viejo oeste no solo como un fondo, sino que se siente un personaje más, es muy interesante como sientes el lugar presente en todo momento, sabes que ni sería nada igual en otra localidad, las montañas imponentes.. el gran cielo vasto, crean una sensación de aislamiento y claustrofobia muy interesante, y esto se refleja muy bien en los personajes.

Las interacciones entre Phil y el hijo de Rose, añade mucha complejidad a la historia.. este joven es alguien quien desafía todas las expectativas tradicionales de la masculinidad típica, en una época donde tales desviaciones de lo que es considerado “normal” no son para nada bien recibidas. La relación del rudo Phil con este chico, se vuelve muy interesante, haciendo de sus escenas juntos de las mejores de la película, llenas de emociones intensas

The director's ability to direct the atmosphere is very evident. The tension is very noticeable, reaching a climax that is very shocking... I think this film has a little bit of everything, great performances, great music, and obviously exceptional cinematography and photography. All mixed together to give you an interesting experience.. it's a movie that clearly requires your patience, and an attention to the little things.. but it rewards you in a good way, there is a very good exploration in the characters backgrounds, sure it might bore you a little bit in some parts, but if this kind of serious movies with good messages are your thing, you will surely have a good time.

I give it a rating of 8/10. It invites you to reflect on issues that are even seen today, so many years later... A movie is not only seen, but also felt.... I hope you liked this review with my opinions, I'll leave the trailer here, take care! Bye

La habilidad de la directora para dirigir las atmósferas son muy evidentes. La tensión se nota mucho, alcanzando un clímax que es muy impactante.. creo que está cinta, tiene de todo un poquito, unas actuaciones geniales, una música muy buena, y obviamente una fotografía y cinematografía excepcional. Todo mezclado junto para darte experiencia interesante.. es una película que claramente requiere tu paciencia, y una atención a las pequeñas cosas.. pero te recompensa de buena manera, hay una muy buena exploración en los trasfondos de los personajes, seguro podrá aburrirte un poco en algunas partes, pero si este tipo de películas serias y con buenos mensajes son lo tuyo, pues seguramente pasas un buen rato.

Le doy una calificación de 8/10. Te invita a reflexionar sobre temas que incluso se ven hoy en día, tantos años después.. Una película no solo se ve, sino que también se siente.. Espero que les haya gustado está reseña con mis opiniones, les dejaré el tráiler por aquí, cuídense mucho! Bye
