Film Route, in celebration of 128 years of national cinema (English/Spanish)

A loving greeting to all my Hive friends, especially to the culture lovers. This time I want to share with you what I have done to celebrate 128 years of national cinema. Every January 28th is celebrated in Venezuela the day of national cinema. This is a very important date for the cultural sector and everyone involved. And no wonder, in a country like this, full of talent and creativity, cinema is one of the spaces where all the work of artistic creation that is born in our people is expressed; especially because our cinema is characterized by being a social cinema.

The truth is that I did not want to miss this important date in which it is essential to recognize and value the richness of our national production. Therefore, I embarked, along with an excellent team of work in La Ruta del cine nacional, a project aimed at promoting and disseminating the cinematographic work of Venezuela. For this we made a selection of educational institutions where we would take the animated short film “El duende verde” which was written and directed by Felix Rodriguez and has a duration of 10 minutes.

The story of El Duende Verde is a beautiful story about caring for nature and friends, it also deals in a short time with important themes such as self-acceptance, love and respect for oneself and for others. It is a beautiful story that is suitable for different age groups. Which was very convenient, because in one morning we could attend to almost the whole school. And by attention I mean enjoying the film, but also talking about the history of national cinema and also sharing reflections at the end of the short film.

It was very interesting to see the children's reactions when I told them that the first films did not have a story with a script, actors or music, but rather scenes from everyday life. But the funniest thing was to see their faces of amazement and laughter when I told them the name of the first two recordings that were made and shown in the country. On January 28, 1897, in the city of Maracaibo, two films were projected for the first time in Venezuela, these two productions were: A famous specialist pulling teeth in the great hotel Europa, plus the second was Girls bathing in the lagoon of Maracaibo.

The history of our cinema, as well as all over the world, has a political background and above all an economic and commercial one. There were many interests behind the conquest of the insipient entertainment industry and with it, to get a lot of money. But as always, small countries reinvent themselves in adversity and Venezuela, as well as a large number of Latin American countries have appropriated the necessary knowledge and equipment to tell their own stories through the big screen.

The route of the national cinema has been a unique experience, we were able to reach more than 500 children in several schools in our municipality, but especially the most remote and difficult to access. Starting on the central day, January 28th and extending throughout the month of February. A few days ago the route ended and we are very proud of all that we achieved. We did all this without any economic support or resources, except our own and those of the institutions and communities that provided everything necessary for the activity to take place.

It was exciting to see the reaction of the children, who were immersed in the stories, identified with the characters and marveled at the quality of the productions. We were also able to share with them the importance of supporting and promoting national cinema as a way of preserving our cultural identity and promoting local talent. We were surprised to find that many of them, no matter how small they were, were interested in learning and training in the art of acting or the manipulation of tools related to film production. As well as we were able to find several talents in drawing, since some times, at the end of the short film, the children drew the green goblin.

The National Cinema Route was not only an opportunity to enjoy the seventh art in all its glory, but also to sow in the new generations the love for our cinematography and the importance of supporting our filmmakers. We hope that this experience has left a seed of interest and appreciation for Venezuelan cinema in each of the children we had the pleasure of reaching.

In short, La Ruta del cine nacional was one more step in our mission to promote and celebrate Venezuelan film talent. I say goodbye for now, very happy to have experienced all this and to be able to tell you about it in this beautiful community. See you soon dear friends.

Ruta del cine, en celebración de los 128 años de cine nacional (Ingles/español)

Un saludo amoroso para todos mis amigos de Hive, especialmente para los amantes de la cultura. Esta vez quiero compartir con ustedes lo que he hecho para celebrar 128 años de cine nacional. Cada 28 de enero se celebra en Venezuela el día del cine nacional. Esto es una fecha muy importante para el sector cultural y todos los involucrados. Y no es de extrañar, en un país como este, lleno de talento y creatividad, el cine es uno de los espacios donde se expresa todo el trabajo de creación artística que nace en nuestro pueblo; sobre todo porque nuestro cine se caracteriza por ser un cine social.

Lo cierto es que no quería dejar pasar esta importante fecha en la que es fundamental reconocer y valorar la riqueza de nuestra producción nacional. Por ello, me embarque, junto a un excelente equipo de trabajo en La Ruta del cine nacional, un proyecto destinado a promover y difundir el trabajo cinematográfico de Venezuela. Para esto hicimos una selección de instituciones educativas donde llevaríamos el cortometraje animado “El duende verde” el cual fue escrito y dirigido por Félix Rodríguez y tiene una duración de 10 minutos.

La historia de El Duende Verde es una bonita historia sobre cuidar la naturaleza y a los amigos, además trata en poco tiempo temas importantes con la auto aceptación, el amor y respeto propio, así como para los demás. Es una bellísima historia que es apta para diferentes grupos etarios. Lo cual fue muy conveniente, porque en una mañana podíamos atender a casi toda la escuela. Y con atención me refiero a disfrutar de la película, pero también conversar sobre la historia del cine nacional y también compartir reflexiones al final del cortometraje.

Fue muy interesante ver las reacciones de los niños al contarles que las primeras películas no tenían una historia con un guion, ni actores ni música, sino que se trataban de escenas de la vida cotidiana. Pero lo más divertido era ver sus caritas de asombro y risa cuando les comentaba el nombre de las dos primeras grabaciones que se hicieron y proyectaron en territorio nacional. El 28 de enero de 1897, en la ciudad de Maracaibo de proyecto por primera vez dos películas filmas en Venezuela, estas dos producciones eran: Un célebre especialista sacando muelas en el gran hotel Europa, más la segunda era Muchachas bañándose en la laguna de Maracaibo.

La historia de nuestro cine, así como en todo el mundo, tiene un trasfondo político y sobre todo económico y comercial. Había muchos intereses detrás de conquistar la insipiente industria del entretenimiento y con ella, llegar a obtener mucho dinero. Pero como siempre, los pequeños países se reinventan en las adversidades y Venezuela, así como una gran cantidad de países de Latinoamérica se han apropiado de los saberes y los equipos necesarios para contar sus propias historias a través de la gran pantalla.

La ruta del cine nacional ha sido experiencia única, pudimos llegar a más de 500 niños en varias escuelas de nuestro municipio, pero sobre todo a las mas remotas y de difícil acceso. Empezando el día central, es decir el 28 de enero y extendiéndose por todo el mes de febrero. Hace pocos días terminó la ruta y nos sentimos muy orgullosos de todo lo que logramos. Ya que todo esto lo hicimos sin ningún apoyo económico ni recurso, más que los nuestros y los de las propias instituciones y comunidades que ponían todo lo que fuera necesario para que la actividad se diera.

Fue emocionante ver la reacción de los niños, quienes se sumergieron en las historias, se identificaron con los personajes y se maravillaron con la calidad de las producciones. Además, pudimos compartir con ellos sobre la importancia de apoyar y fomentar el cine nacional, como una forma de preservar nuestra identidad cultural y promover el talento local. Nos encontramos con la sorpresa de que muchos de ellos, por ms pequeños que fueran, estaban interesados en aprender y formarse en el arte de la actuación o la manipulación de las herramientas vinculadas a la producción del cine. Así como pudimos encontrar varios talentos en dibujo, ya que algunas ocasiones al culminar en cortometraje, los niños dibujaron al duende verde.

La Ruta del cine nacional no solo fue una oportunidad para disfrutar del séptimo arte en toda su gloria, sino también para sembrar en las nuevas generaciones el amor por nuestra cinematografía y la importancia de apoyar a nuestros cineastas. Esperamos que esta experiencia haya dejado una semilla de interés y aprecio por el cine venezolano en cada uno de los niños que tuvimos el placer de alcanzar.

En definitiva, La Ruta del cine nacional fue un paso más en nuestra misión de promover y celebrar el talento cinematográfico de Venezuela. Me despido por ahora, muy contenta de haber vivido todo esto y de poder contarles en esta hermosa comunidad. Hasta pronto queridos amigos.
