An Above-Surface Take || Love In Every Word
I am adverse to hype. My appeal to anything and everything would only come after the hype around to it has long died down. So, even though the entirety of my timeline on social media and Nigeria at large have been gushing about this single film, friends and family as well, I couldn’t bring myself to see it. Until, a couple of days back when I was roped into seeing it with a friend, and let's just say the experience was...
Love In Every Word (2025)
Chioma works as a marketing manager but also has a perfume business on the side which is struggling because she hasn’t restocked her perfumes for about eight months now. She’s recently out of a relationship with a man who regularly extorted from her, and is frankly seeking to have a stress-free life even though her witch-like boss prevents her from having a moment's peace. She meets Odogwu Obiora at a family event and the two hit it off immediately. However, Chioma has misgivings about Obiora. Misgivings that may not let her give into a love that may just be her best chance at happiness. What are the odds?
My Thought and Rating
I’m dozing off as I write this cause I have had a long day and I’m exhausted beyond belief. So, excuse the typos as I try to give you my unfiltered thoughts of this film. Hopefully, my phone won’t fall down from my hand for the umpteenth time.
I loved Chioma’s acting. Nothing quite pleases me like an actor who embodies a role and interprets in a way that leaves no room for doubt. And that’s what Chioma did, in a way so impressive, I was left speechless most times. The boss lady role fit her to perfection and she portrayed it gracefully . Her style. Her calmness. Her command of English, as well as other things is something I see myself acquiring sooner than later. So, there was this feeling of excitement seeing her in action.
Then, we move to Odogwu Obiora and I must say Uzor, who is the person who portrayed this role has been underestimated for far too long in the Nigerian film industry. The man has always been an excellent actor but most people bypass him for reasons I may never understand. So, more than anything, I loves that this film has brought him some much-deserved spotlight.
Beyond that, his acting in this film was aptness in the flesh. The stereotypical Igbo male character was a master stroke by the director because he totally nailed it. It also helped that he had amazing chemistry with Chioma. Those two had me grinning like a lunatic barely thirty minutes into the film. Chemistry is not something you force. It’s something that flows naturally, and Obiora and Chioma had it in spades, making the film more than enjoyable to watch.
I still believe that this film may have been a tad over-hyped. The story is beautiful. The cast even more so. But there were still a few other things I felt it lacked to make it that stellar film worthy of note. At least worthy enough to be hyped in the manner it currently is. However, I don’t remember grinning this much seeing a film (even though, that too changed a some point), so that’s enough to count as a more than okay film. There's a reason I will not be dissecting this film and stating my misgivings. I guess I'm just too tired...for various reasons.
Anyway, I’ve always been a fan of Omoni Oboli as an actress. But the best actors sometimes may not make even an averagely good director. I’m glad she didn’t prove this theory right. Looking forward to more of her productions, definitely. This, however, is a good 7/10 from me. Nicely done, indeed.

never seen uzor being romantic in a movie, Hope he is also funny in this one
Yeah, he doesn't take on a lot of romantic roles. You'll like this one.
ok will add it up to my lost then
I love this movie but the hype was just too much. The character he portrayed in the movie was totally different from our typical 9ja big men. After they pursue you once and you disagree they'll just leave, I think his character was what drew people to the movie the most and BamBam's character was 100/100...
Yeah, her charisma is what drew me to her. She's coolness personified. We can dare to dream, I guess. Because everyone knows Nigerian big men for the most part are nothing like that.😂
One how are you from them and you don't reply ... Otilo they're far gone😂
This movie must really be something else given the hype and how I can stop hearing "Odogwu", "Achalugo, I will marry you", "Onyewem" and the rest of the phrases that was said in the movie from almost everybody's mouth. Funny enough, hypes like this is dies down my curiosity instead of stirring it up. But I guess they did a great job in the movie. Nice review though @jhymi
Yeah, most of the time when films get hyped, I stay away and then when the hype goes down, I forget to see it. But this one isn't bad, depending on your perspective.🤷🏽♀️
LOL. Gurl, you should have waited till you're not this tired so that you can dissect the film properly/do justice.
I haven't watched it either, but I'm seeing the hype everywhere too. I know it's certainly a B-movie, I thought it would be interesting to see what you have to say about it but you're holding back 😅.
Yeah, I held back on purpose because my take will be controversial at best, hehe. I, on the other hand, am looking forward to your take on the film if you get around to seeing it.🙃
Yeah, being controversial wouldn't have been bad at all. But it's alright.
The chances are really low that I'd watch it, though, because I already think it is a B-movie, and I only watch B-movies when a girl I'm interested in is watching it in my presence 😅. I don't see any of that happening anytime soon.
The hype didn't push me to watch it but this review is doing me showhow. Abi I should watch it because the way you praise the acting of the actors is making me want to see if it truly is what you said. I think I will give it a try sha.
The actors did well, so yeah, I'm right on that score. But there are other criteria that makes for a good film. So, let's see what you think after seeing it.🙃
smiles, alright!
Guy, I must watch this movie this weekend. I’ve been so occupied that’s why. I’ll gist you later.
Oya now...
I'll be waiting.🙂↕️
