You guys, I just realized that I never made a review of this series and I wonder why. It was one of those series that I’m pretty sure I finished in a little over a day. Like, I’m talking full sixteen episodes, and even then, it felt like no time had been spent at all, because I’d been hooked from start to finish, stopping only when I needed to sleep for three hours max. Without further ado, I present to you all:

Nevertheless (2021)

So, a brief intro to this series. Nevertheless is a 2021 Korean Tv series that was adapted from a webtoon with the same name. It tells the story of Yoo Na-Bi(Han So-Hee) who walks into the museum to meet her boyfriend whose piece she knows is among those being showcased in the museum. But she walks into whispers and soon enough gets to realize that said boyfriend had made an explicit sculpture and also went ahead to inscribe her name on it, letting pretty much everyone know who is being sculpted. Na-Bi is heart broken and doesn’t believe in love anymore.

Then there’s the man with the butterfly tattoo, Park Jae-Eon (Song Kang), who is a flirt and doesn’t want to commit to a relationship. But, he is relentless in his pursuits of Na-Bi, and with the sparks off the roof, the young artist must decide if she can try out love with the man who has a tattoo of her name.

My Review and Rating

So, first off, Song Kang has a reputation in the K-drama world, and this is no tell to his true nature, but for some reason, he is always casted in roles were the male lead is the definition of toxic. Song kang takes toxic males to the next level, but he is one of my favourite actors and this series was not an exception. Nevertheless showcased Song Kang in his true element of toxicity, lol.

And then to Na-Bi herself. In case, you don't know, Na Bi means butterfly in Korean. So, you can understand how the whole chemistry and sparks went when Na Bi met this man that has a tattoo of a butterfly at the back of his neck. And then all the flirtations and bad boy charm he laid on her. She's a brilliant actress and played the role of sculptor pretty well. She's not the smartest person in the game of love, but she was okay in my books.

Nevertheless is not your conventional Korean drama. This means that it isn't as conservative as your regular Korean dramas where the first kiss scene happens at episode twelve, and even then it's the lightest feathery brush of lips you can ever imagine. It has a few explicit scenes that made me raise my brows, but you know, I wasn't complaining, lol. It didn't come as a shock to me, however, when Nevertheless was banned from being televised in the home country, South Korea. Not hypocritical nice at all.

I learnt a lot of things about the world of art and art schools in general. The quest to do better as an artist. The battle to accept criticism in good faith and channeling it towards working on yourself and bettering your art. I learnt about the several times you would have to question, doubt and second-guess yourself. If you're good enough, if your art is good enough and whether or not it's worthy enough to make it to the big screens. Nevertheless brought all of that to light and treated this theme in such a way that it was a beautiful eye opener for all those who watched it.

The chemistry as always was off the charts. Song Kang knows how to make that work and toxic or not, he knows his game on-set and perhaps off set, who knows? Hehe. I saw Nevertheless in 2022, but one of these days, I may see it all again and perhaps relive that moment of what it felt to see it the first time. Till then, stay beautiful and away from toxic men. Hehe.

Lol not you giving an advice that's contrary to what your review says, me I want a Song Kang man if it's going to be toxic 🤣

I also saw the series in same year as you as I was hooked as well, I think I'll have a rewatch too.

Merit, this shouldn't be your lifestyle. Change fast fast. Why want a toxic man because it's Song Kang?😂

When you want to rewatch, call me, let's have the experience together. If you like, smile too much at the young man.😂

He remains the first, every other is backup 😂

I love this movie a lot but didn't like that Na-bi's feelings were played. Song Kang was a serious flirt and hot! so i wouldn't blame Na-bi for not being able to resist him.

avatar

Yeah, hence the whole toxicity. He knew the effect he has and used it to his advantage big time.

Even though i don't like this type ok Korean Drama (he pure "romance" i mean) in general i really enjoy both their movies and shows, i think that Korea is like the Hollywood of Asia!

Yeah, it is the Hollywood of Asia, although solely anime lovers may say it's Japan, lol. Anyway, I'm an avid K-drama lover so I watch pretty much everything, but the purely romance ones could get irritating most times.

It’s giving high level of toxic love.😂😂

This series is not good for my mental health.🤝😂

I really admire the effort being put in Korean movies. They're definitely among the top 3 when it comes to the "...wood" industry. The other two is Hollywood and Bollywood. Forgotten what they call that of Korean again, lol. Nice review by the way

I don't know myself. I think it's just K-dramas. But I may be wrong, lol. Lovely having you here.✨
