Discovering your life was premade and programmed to go a certain way, even who you're supposed to love –is crazy, right?

Well, that's what Companion is all about. Companion is a 2025 American horror comedy film centered around Iris, who believes she’s just a young woman in love with her boyfriend, Josh. After a horrific encounter and a shocking revelation, Iris learns that nothing in her life is under her control, even her own emotions.

After a horrifying incident at the lake where she is assaulted by Sergey and forced to kill him in self-defense, Iris rushes back to the house in horror, in her instability Josh tells her to “go to sleep,” and Iris powers down, the truth is unveiled she’s a robot, after all this time upgraded and developed to be in tune to Josh as her owner.

As the movie goes on Josh reveals how he planned for Irish to kill Sergey even how he planted the knife into her pocket. While he's talking with Kat, distracted, Iris frees herself, snatches Josh's phone and runs into the forest. There, she finds in Josh’s phone the app that has all her settings, she changed all of them just realizing how much she had been used.

Back at the house, Josh reveals to Eli and Patrick that he reprogrammed Iris also telling them that the plan was to kill Sergey and steal $12 million, using the companions as pawns. But there is disagreement when Josh and Kat try to cut Patrick out of the deal, because he is also a companion.

Eli, realizing things have gone too far, grabs a gun from the safe, and the group sets out to track down Iris. In the woods, Patrick tells Eli that he knows he’s a robot but that his love for Eli is real. When they find Iris, a struggle breaks out where she accidentally shoots Eli dead.

Iris tries to flee in a self-driving car, but Josh locks it remotely using Sergey's phone. He then resets Patrick’s programming, making him violent and obedient once more. When Iris escapes the car and is intercepted by a police officer, Patrick kills the officer and drags her back.

Kat, horrified at how far things have gone, tries to leave with her share of the cash. But Patrick, now fully under Josh's control, kills her. Josh contacts Empathix, claiming Iris is malfunctioning. Before they arrive, he rants about how he's a "nice guy" and punishes Iris when she mocks him. He lowers her intelligence to zero, turns her into a shell, and forces her to harm herself then making her shoot herself in the head.

But Iris isn't gone yet

When Empathix workers Sid and Teddy arrive, they reveal that companions record everything and that Iris's data is still intact. As they try to leave, Josh commands Patrick to kill them and retrieve Iris. Patrick kills Sid, but before he can kill Teddy, Iris wakes up.

During the fight she helps Patrick recover memories of Eli, breaking Josh's hold over him. Unable to bear the fact that Eli is dead, Patrick takes his own life with an electric prod.

Teddy, happy and relieved by Iris’s actions, grants her full control over herself no apps and no more commands.

Iris returns to the house one last time. After a long fight, she kills Josh with an electric corkscrew. The next morning, she peels off her burnt skin, revealing the machine underneath. She’s no longer pretending to be someone else.

She runs away with Sergey’s money.
She’s free. But how many others are still stuck in their loops.

I really enjoyed this movie so I'll give it a 4 out of 5 rating and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't already watched it.

Reminds me of total recall. I love the sweet mix of horror, comedy and action all contained in the movie. I gotta say it's a full package. Thanks for sharing.
