Greetings to all on this Wednesday walk!

While I was writing this post and looking for information to complement it, I came across a piece of news that left me amazed, and that is that the collection of Cuban film posters from the period 1960 to 1980 are part, since the end of 2023, of the International Registry of the Memory of the World Program. Wonderful, and just in my stroll today I come to show and write about this magnificent collection.

I am in the lobby of the ICAIC (Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industries), a large building located on 23rd Avenue between 10th and 12th Streets, in the Vedado district of the Cuban capital. This institute was created in early 1959 with the aim of promoting our culture and our cinema, and enjoys great international prestige due to the number of feature films it has produced and made over the years. Many of them have been acclaimed by international audiences and have received numerous awards at festivals and events outside the country. In this lobby, there is a gallery that exhibits these small works of art, the posters of films and documentaries, which were created as a new way of promoting Cuban cinema. The technique used to create them was silkscreen printing.

Here we can find most of the posters that began to be made since 1960, we can appreciate documentaries and films so recognized and loved by Cubans, such as "Clandestinos", " The Beauty of the Alhambra", "Strawberry and Chocolate", the animated films of Elpidio Valdés and "Vampires in Havana", among many others. There is also a collection of film and television cameras and projectors, all of different models and periods, which offer an overview of the history of these devices that made the existence of cinema possible.

All this was explained to me by the man who was guarding the entrance, who was very well informed. Nevertheless, here I share the link to the Cuban site Ecured where you can find more detailed information about Los Carteles del ICAIC and its history over the years.

Mientras escribía este post y buscaba información para complementarlo, me encontré con una noticia que me dejó asombró, y es que la colección de Carteles de las películas del cine cubano del periodo 1960 a 1980 forman parte, desde finales del 2023, del Registro Internacional del Programa Memoria del Mundo. Maravilloso, y justo en mi paseo de hoy vengo a mostrar y escribir sobre esta magnífica colección.

Me encuentro en el lobby del ICAIC (Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industrias Cinematográficas), un gran edificio ubicado en la avenida 23 entre las calles 10 y 12, en el Reparto del Vedado de la capital de Cuba. Este instituto fue creado a principios de 1959 con el objetivo de promover nuestra cultura y nuestro cine, y goza de gran prestigio internacional debido a la cantidad de largometrajes que ha producido y realizado a lo largo de todos estos años. Muchos de ellos han sido aclamados por el público internacional y han recibido numerosos premios en festivales y eventos fuera del país. En este lobby, se encuentra una galería que exhibe estas pequeñas obras de arte, los carteles de películas y documentales, que fueron creados como una nueva forma de promocionar el cine cubano. La técnica utilizada para crearlos fue la serigrafía.

Aquí se encuentran la gran mayoría de los carteles que comenzaron a realizarse desde el año1960, podemos apreciar documentales y películas tan reconocidas y queridas por los cubanos, como "Clandestinos", "La Bella del Alhambra", "Fresa y Chocolate", los animados de Elpidio Valdés y "Vampiros en La Habana", entre muchas otras. También hay una colección de cámaras de cine y televisión y proyectores, todas de distintos modelos y épocas, que nos brindan un recuento de la historia de estos aparatos que hicieron posible la existencia del cine.
