Love films always have a special way of moving us, they make us emotional, they make us cry, they make us rejoice. Personally, I really enjoy watching this film genre. I have seen many that I liked. However, there is one in particular that moved me very much at the time. It is one of my favourite films and it is the one I would like to participate in this Weekly Contest dedicated to love. I'm talking about: "The Bridges of Madison".

Before I go on to explain why this is my favourite love film, I must say that I will probably reveal some details about the plot and the final outcome, but it is impossible for me to narrate how it made me feel without doing so.

First, some general facts about the film:
"The Bridges of Madison" was released in 1995 and stars Meryl Streep as Francesca Johnson, a small-town housewife, and Clint Eastwood as photographer Robert Kincaid. Clint Eastwood himself directed the film, which received several nominations.

The story is told through the diary that Francesca leaves to her children along with her belongings after her death. At first, her children are surprised: how is it possible that their mother was not the woman they thought she was and kept this big secret involving infidelity to their father? However, as the story progresses, they are able to understand their mother and reflect on their own love relationships through her experience.

As the film progresses, it is hard not to identify with this woman who is completely devoted to her family, her husband and her children, but who lives a monotonous life and feels trapped in a relationship lacking in passion. However, her whole life changes when she stays alone in her house for a few days and meets a photographer who makes her feel again an attractive woman full of sensuality. Who wouldn't let herself be carried away by this feeling?, which surprises her and makes her feel something totally different from what she was living until now. Moreover, the film teaches us that love can come at any moment of our lives.

Things get complicated when Francesca's family is about to return and she has to choose between leaving with the love of her life, with this man who has given her back the desire and the will to live a different life, or staying with her family and continuing the same routine life she had lived until then.

The first time I saw the film, I couldn't understand her choice, I even got angry with Francesca, I didn't understand how she could let the moment of being happy with the man she loved slip away, how she could give up living the life she always dreamed of? But, with the passing of time I have learned to value other things and I have come to understand that there are different ways of loving. The dedication and love for our children and the family we have built are precious things that deserve to be cherished and appreciated.

I can understand Francesca now and I think I would have acted the same way in her place. How long could that passion last? How long could she live with that man without feeling the remorse of having left her children, of having ended her marriage and separated her family? I think in the end, that love would not have stood the test of time, and I think it takes a lot of courage to realise that.

Something I also really liked about this film was the brilliant performances of the leads, and how excellently they played their roles. It couldn't have been otherwise with Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood in the lead.

For me "The Bridges of Madison" is a beautiful love story, with an ending that could be disconcerting but thought-provoking. I think it is a film to enjoy at various times in our lives.

So much for my publication. I recommend those of you who haven't seen this film to do so, you won't regret it.

Las películas de amor siempre tienen una forma especial de conmovernos, nos hacen emocionarnos, llorar, alegrarnos. Personalmente, disfruto mucho viendo este género cinematográfico. He visto muchas que me han gustado. Sin embargo, hay una en particular que me emocionó mucho en su momento. Es una de mis películas favoritas y es con la que le gustaría participar en este Concurso Semanal dedicado al amor. Me refiero a: "Los puentes de Madison".

Antes de seguir explicando el por qué este es mi película de amor favorita debo decir que es probable que revele algunos detalles sobre la trama y el desenlace final, pero me es imposible narrar lo que me hizo sentir si no lo hago así.

Primero, algunas Generalidades sobre la pelicula:
"Los puentes de Madison" fue estrenada en 1995 y cuenta con Meryl Streep interpretando a Francesca Johnson, una ama de casa, de un pequeño pueblo y Clint Eastwood en el papel del fotógrafo Robert Kincaid. El propio Clint Eastwood dirigió la película, que recibió diferentes nominaciones.

La historia se narra a través del diario que Francesca deja a sus hijos junto con sus pertenencias después de su fallecimiento. Al principio, sus hijos se sienten sorprendidos e incluso molestos. ¿Cómo era posible que su madre no fuera la mujer que ellos creían y guardara este gran secreto que implicaba una infidelidad hacia su padre? Sin embargo, a medida que avanza la historia, son capaces de comprender a su madre y reflexionar sobre sus propias relaciones amorosas a través de su experiencia.

A medida que la película avanza, es difícil no identificarse con esta mujer que se dedica por completo a su familia, a su esposo y a sus hijos, pero que vive una vida monótona y se siente atrapada en una relación carente de pasión. Sin embargo, toda su vida cambia cuando se queda sola en su casa por unos días y conoce a un fotógrafo que la hace sentirse nuevamente una mujer atractiva y llena de sensualidad. ¿Quién no se dejaría llevar por ese sentimiento? que la sorprende y la hace sentir algo totalmente diferente a lo que estaba viviendo hasta el momento. Además, la película nos enseña que el amor puede llegar en cualquier momento de nuestras vidas.

Las cosas se complican cuando la familia de Francesca está a punto de regresar y ella tiene que escoger entre irse con el amor de su vida, con este hombre que le ha devuelto el deseo y las ganas de vivir una vida diferente, o quedarse junto a su familia y continuar la misma vida rutinaria que había vivido hasta ese momento.

La primera vez que vi el filme, no logré entender su elección, incluso me enoje con Francesca, no entendí como podía dejar escapar el momento de ser feliz con el hombre que amaba, como podía renunciar a vivir la vida que siempre soño? Pero, con el paso del tiempo he aprendido a valorar otras cosas y he llegado a comprender que existen diferentes formas de amar. La dedicación y el amor hacia nuestros hijos y la familia que hemos construido son cosas muy valiosas que merecen ser cuidadas y apreciadas.

Ahora puedo entender a Francesca y creo que yo hubiera actuado de la misma manera en su lugar. ¿Cuánto tiempo podría durar esa pasión? ¿Cuánto tiempo podría vivir con ese hombre sin sentir el remordimiento de haber dejado a sus hijos, de haber terminado su matrimonio y de haber separado a su familia? Creo que al final, ese amor no habría resistido el paso del tiempo, y pienso que se necesita mucho valor para darse cuenta de eso.

Algo que también me gustó mucho de esta película fueron las brillantes actuaciones de sus protagonistas, y lo excelente que interpretaron sus papeles. No podría haber sido de otra manera con Meryl Streep y Clint Eastwood al frente.

Para mí "Los puentes de Madison" es una bella historia de amor, con un final que pudiera resultar desconcertante pero que nos invita a reflexionar. Creo que es una película para disfrutar en varios momentos de nuestra vida.
