Paradise (Netflix) | Movie Review + My opinion
Today I want to talk about a movie I saw on Netflix, it appeared to me as one of the TOP views in my country, and I thought it would be a good option to watch, but I'm going to differ a bit, and I'll tell you why.
It's called Paradise, it's a German production. In general, when I noticed this detail I thought that perhaps I was going to be surprised a little and I created an expectation. And what is this movie about? Without going too far, the synopsis reveals the following: A man discovers the dark side of the biotechnology company in which he works when his wife is forced to give up 40 years of life to pay a debt.
Hoy quiero hablarles de una película que vi en Netflix, me apareció como una de las TOP vistas en mi país, y pensé que sería una buena opción para ver, pero yo voy a diferir un poco, y ya les cuento por qué.
Se llama Paradise, es una producción alemana. En general, al notar este detalle pensé que quizá me iba a sorprender un poco y me creé una expectativa. ¿Y de qué se trata esta película? Sin ir muy lejos la sinopsis nos revela lo siguiente: Un hombre descubre el lado oscuro de la compañía de biotecnología en la que trabaja cuando su esposa se ve obligada a renunciar a 40 años de vida para pagar una deuda.

Well, this movie places us in the not too distant future. We begin by looking at the life of Max and Elena. Well, it's actually based on the life of this couple. Max works for a company called Aeon that offers very unusual services, its premise is that you can donate your time to start a new life. It is actually "donating" your years of life.

Max trabaja en una empresa llamada Aeon que ofrecer unos servicios muy fuera de lo común, su premisa es que puedes donar tu tiempo para empezar una nueva vida. We will get all this information in the first 30 minutes of the film, and this is one of my problems with the film, it is very slow, it seems that they never want to tell you the story, as if they show you scenes without giving you any explanation and as a spectator, you are there waiting to understand or waiting for the moment when one of the characters tells something, it is like everything were open to your own interpretation. I felt that I was questioning the why of each action. And well, in my opinion, movies should tell you something, and this one lacks this factor.
Pero sabemos que las personas no somos tan generosas, ni siquiera en una película, para donar nuestros años de vida, por supuesto, das estos años de vida a cambio de una cantidad bastante lucrativa de dinero.
Toda esta información la obtendremos en los primeros 30 minutos de la película, y este es uno de mis problemas con la película, es muy lenta, pareciera que nunca te quieren contar la historia, como si te mostraran unas escenas sin darte una explicación alguna y tú como espectador estás ahí esperando entender o esperando el momento dónde alguno de los personajes cuente algo, es como si todo estuviera abierto a tu propia interpretación. Yo me sentía que cuestionaba el por qué de cada acción. Y pues, las películas a mi parecer deben contarte algo, y esta carece de este factor.

Here I go to my second point. This compatibility is not explained on what basis, however, there is a 1% of cases that it is difficult to find a compatibility. It is also not understood how it is possible to transfer years to another person, God, at least invent something to tell about it, what we will see in the film is a person connected to tubes, where it gives us to understand that a liquid is extracted from the body, it is a kind of serum, but how is never explained in depth, at least it seemed to me something important in the story, however, I think that was not the focus... I feel that this was created by the imagination of a child from 10 years, leaving so many details unexplained, all very loose.
Ahora explicando un poco más la película, sí, una persona dona sus años de vida, claramente estos años de vida son donados a otra persona, al principio cuando te lo presentan así, cualquiera pensaría que es para personas enfermas, pero de hecho, no totalmente porque esto es para personas ricas. Por supuesto “una donación” que tiene una compensación para el donante, que en realidad es poco, a comparación de pagar a la empresa por adquirir estos años de vida. En fin, toda esta donación solo es posible cuando hay una compatibilidad.
Aquí voy a mi segundo punto. Esta compatibilidad no se explica en que basa, sin embargo, existe un 1% de los casos que es difícil encontrar una compatibilidad. Tampoco se entiende cómo es posible transferir años a otra persona, santo dios, por lo menos inventen algo para contarlo, lo que veremos en la película es una persona conectada a tubos, donde nos da a entender que te extraen un líquido del cuerpo, es una especie de suero, pero nunca se explica a fondo el cómo, por lo menos a mí me parecía algo importante en la historia, sin embargo, creo que ese no era el foco… Siento que esto fue creado por la imaginación de un niño de 10 años, dejando tantos detalles sin explicación, todo muy suelto.

Well, as I said before, they show us the life of Max and Elena, everything seems to be a dream life, very beautiful and perfect, until one day they go back home and from a distance they notice their building on fire, just located in this couple's apartment, leaving them on the street. The worst thing about the situation for them is that the insurance does not want to cover the damage and leaves them with a debt of 2.5 million euros, but there was another part that had never been said between this couple. Elena, she had put her life as insurance and now she would be forced to deliver it precisely to the company where her husband works, and here clearly we already know how things will be.
Voy a ir ya directamente al punto de la reseña. Pues, como dije antes, nos muestran la vida de Max y Elena, todo parece ser una vida de ensueño, muy bonita y perfecta, hasta que un día van de regreso a casa y desde la distancia notan su edificio en llamas, justamente ubicado en el apartamento de esta pareja, dejándolos en la calle. Lo peor de la situación para ellos es que el seguro no quiere cubrir los daños y los deja con una deuda de 2.5 millones de euro pero había otra parte que no se había dicho nunca entre esta pareja. Elena, ella había puesto su vida como un seguro y ahora sería forzada a entregarla justamente en la empresa donde trabaja su esposo, y aquí claramente ya sabemos mas o menos como será la cosa.

I don't want to ruin anyone's experience but, it's too slow, it lags in every way and at one point it's quite frustrating, it's all one way, monotonous. This idea could have become something very good and innovative, but it was not the case, the lack of depth in the film ruined everything, nobody has anything to tell and it even becomes predictable to the point of becoming a mediocre cliché.
No quiero arruinarle a nadie la experiencia, pero, es demasiado lenta, se demora en todos los aspectos y en un punto es bastante frustrante, es todo en un solo sentido, monótono. Esta idea pudo haberse convertido en algo muy bueno e innovador, pero no fue el caso, la falta de profundidad en la película lo arruinó todo, nadie tiene nada para contar e incluso se hace predecible al tal punto de convertirse en un cliché mediocre.

La película tiene dos variables, el inicio y el final son compactos. El centro es lento, eso es algo que noté al verla. También está el tema que el final queda abierto a una segunda parte. Quizás hubiera sido interesante saber la parte central del argumento, pero aun así el inicio y el final se relacionan muy bien y causan intriga. El enfoque del centro de la película fue más humanizador, hay creo que fue el error.
Realmente siento que pudo haber sido algo genial pero terminó siendo como otra película más. Sí, el final quedó abierto eso me dejó pensando. No creo que esta película vaya a tener buena respuesta al público por lo lento que llevan las cosas
Estoy totalmente de acuerdo con tu reseña, personalmente no me gusto mucho la película aunque llama demasiado la atención, siento que pudieron sacarle más provecho a la trama en sí, es muy cierto que no explican como suceden los aspectos científicos, así sea ficción, dejan muchas cosas vacías, nos dejan con más preguntas que respuestas. Hola!! Leí la primera parte y ya después no porque también está entre las TOP de mi país y la quiero ver. Lo que leí de tu reseña, me pareció muy interesante, y no sabía si enfocarme o no en encontrar el punto en el que difieres, porque me daba la impresión que iba a decirme más de lo que quiero saber por el momento. También tengo grandes expectativas para con esta producción, así que ahora quiero saber si me gusta realmente, o me termina decepcionando un poco. Gracias por acercar esta review!
