Chennai Express: A Petfect Blend Of Action, Romace, And Comedy- A Cinematic Delight
The one person that made me fall deeply in love with Bollywood movies is Shah Rukh Khan. No doubt, he's the favorite of a lot of people. I love all the famous Bollywood”Khans”-Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, but my favorite is Shah Rukh Khan. I have watched lots of his movies, and none of them is below the par. Another reason why I admire the famous Bollywood so much is because his acting skills are top-notch. When it comes to acting, he's got all- facial expressions, gestures, charisma and confidence. Am I the only person that has never seen a flaw in his acting? Well, I've been watching his movies since I was a kid and I've never seen him fall below par when it comes to acting. My favorite movie of the Bollywood star is Don. I can't count the number of times I've seen the movie. I watched it so many times that I could repeat some of the lines word for word.
The main thing I look out for before watching a movie are the cast members. I've noticed that when the cast includes popular people, I tend to be more engaged and glued to the movie. On the other hand, when I watch a movie when cast members include new faces (people I'm not conversant with) I have to pay full attention to prevent myself from dozing off. There is no doubt that Indians are great movie writers. Somehow, I prefer Bollywood comedies to their thriller crimes or other genres. I remember watching an indian movie (Phata Poster Nikla Hero) I couldn't control my laughter. I laughed so hard to the point that I started shedding tears. In this post, I'll do a review of one of my favorite Bollywood comedy movies- Chennai Express.
Chennai Express is a Bollywood comedy movie starring famous actors and actresses such as Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Yogi Babu (he's always starring as a lout/rascal in his movies). The movie was directed by Rohit Shetty. One important thing you should know about this movie is that the songs used are amazing. Some people find indian songs unnecessary, so they just skip the songs part when it comes up. Songs and dance are important to Indians- to them, it is not only a form of entertainment, it is also part if their culture. The songs used in this movie is really Catchy. The songs alone can make you fall deeply in love with the movie. I remember spending time on YouTube, watching and dancing to the songs.
The use of costumes is absolutely amazing. This is another amazing thing about Indian movies. The color outfits worn by characters, especially Deepika Padukone who starred as Meenamma Lochini Azhagusundram (weird name, right) is totally amazing. I love their Sarees, especially the white ones. The use of costumes contributes greatly to the aesthetic of the movie. Also, I'm not so sure about this, but I think their costumes is an integral part of their culture.
Another thing I really love about this movie is how it combined comedy, romance and action. It is really nice when a literary work, irrespective of genre, evokes catharsis in people. In literature, Catharsis refers to the purgation of emotions. There are certain works you read/watch and feel sad, some other works can make you feel happy or angry. Chennai express is the whole package. It brought out the Catharsis in me in different ways. At a point I went : awww, how cute, as the plot progress it statrted giving action movies vibe. The funny moments made it enjoyable to watch.
The plot revolves around Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan), a 30 year old man who sets out on a journey from Mumbai to Rameshwaram to immerse the ashes of his grandfather in the waters of Rameshwaram. The plot twists when Rahul meets Meena (Deepika Padukone), the daughter of a don (unknowing to Rahul). Rahul helps her get on the train. Apparently, she had just escaped from her dad who is forcing her to get married to a man she doesn't like. Rahul also helps her abductors (her cousin brothers who are trying to take her back to the don, her dad.) The plot twists when Rahul gets himself in trouble with Meena’s cousins, the abductors. Now, instead of him going to Rameshwaram yo immerse his grandfather’s ashes, he has to go to Meena’s town where her father lives. Their journey is filled with exciting and funny moments.
In my opinion, this movie gets a 5 out of 5 stars. No matter how hard I try, I can't point out any mistakes. The plot is perfect. Character development is also top notch. Finally, both Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone played their roles well.
Thanks for reading.
