Wicked es un musical de Broadway que se convirtió en película aunque no tenía idea de este musical si he visto que viene una segunda parte, la película comienza con Glinda anunciando la muerte de la Malvada Bruja a la gente de Oz, luego hay un flashback para mostrar cómo empezó todo, y me refiero a todo. Se muestra a profundidad los orígenes tanto de Elphaba que es la futura Malvada Bruja como de Glinda, comenzando en la Universidad Shiz, donde se convierten en compañeras de habitación. La producción es muy buena igual que la decoración, parece como si estuvieras caminando por los pasillos de una escuela mágica, pero hay cosas que se ven irreales sobretodo los animales que hablan.

Elphaba tiene la piel verde y buenas habilidades mágicas, nace y llega a la Universidad de Shiz con la alegre y privilegiada Galinda que más tarde se convierte en Glinda, y así sigue la trama, primero se odian mutuamente y luego poco a poco se convierte en una amistad inesperada, que es digamos la base emocional de toda esta historia. La película se enfoca en mostrar toda la relación y la manera en cómo los intentos superficiales de Galinda de ayudar a Elphaba a encajar se convierten en verdadero cariño y comprensión. Hay una parte de la historia que es más oscura y conocemos el lado más oscuro de Oz, donde los animales que hablan son silenciados y oprimidos, a medida que Elphaba y Galinda son invitadas a conocer al Mago de Oz, que aunque engañe con su encanto oculta algo malo, se crea una subtrama política que se vuelve cada vez más importante. En la historia se tratan temas como la discriminación, el poder y el precio de defender lo que es correcto, al tiempo que se mantiene la parte musical de fantasía.

Cynthia Erivo y Ariana Grande son geniales en el papel de Elphaba y Glinda, en particular Ariana Grande realmente me sorprendió con su interpretación de Glinda vporque su papel pudo haber sido superficial y aportó comedia y emoción y logró crear un personaje más complejo en el fondo. Jonathan Bailey como Fiyero también da algo de encanto y profundidad a lo que podría haber sido un simple papel de interés amoroso. Michelle Yeoh como Madame Morrible y Peter Dinklage como el Dr. Dillamond son actores secundarios que me pareció están infrautilizados y El Mago es interpretado por Jeff Goldblum se ve su encanto y manipulación aunque sus números musicales no son tan fuertes como el resto de los actores.

Me ha gustado mucho la decoración y el vestuario pero debo criticar algunos de los efectos especiales sobre todo los animales parlantes y al final la película hace demasiadas cosas mal como las actuaciones centrales y sus principales números musicales son muy buenos, el primer acto parece fuera de lugar y la película comienza a cobrar vida una vez que Elphaba y Glinda se hacen amigas en este punto es que encuentra el ritmo. La escena donde Elphaba finalmente se opone al régimen corrupto del Mago cuando descubre la verdad sobre cómo los animales están siendo silenciados y oprimidos en Oz y se niega a unirse al gobierno del Mago y decide rebelarse y ser tachada de mala es muy poderosa, aqui Elphaba se eleva literalmente por encima de la multitud mientras Glinda se queda atrás, dejando que las dos sigan caminos separados.

Otra cosa que me gustó fue la manera como crearon una amistad tan real entre Elphaba y Glinda, a pesar de sus diferencias y mis escenas musicales favoritas fueron "Popular" y "Defying Gravity", al principio estaba confundida en la manera como dividieron la historia en dos partes pero luego no entendí aunque no me convenza del todo si era necesario aunque hay suficientes cosas buenas aquí como actuaciones, música, mensaje general sobre la amistad y la defensa de lo que es correcto, como para que me despierte la curiosidad por la Parte 2.

El final de Wicked lleva a ese momento en el que Elphaba finalmente se libera de los grilletes del corrupto sistema de Oz y descubre la verdadera naturaleza del Mago y su papel en la opresión de los animales parlantes y se planta en la Ciudad Esmeralda, la forma en que se desarrolla la escena con Glinda tratando desesperadamente de convencer a su amiga de que se quede y se conforme y Elphaba eligiendo rebelarse, es una buena mezcla de emociones. No es solo que haya decidido ser la «Maldita Bruja», es que alguien por fin se ha rebelado contra la injusticia, aunque eso signifique que la llamen «villana», para la Parte 2, Glinda debe decidir entre su amistad con Elphaba y su posición en el sistema, me pareció un final que concluye bien esta parte y no nos prepara mucho para lo que está por venir, creo que Wicked es buena adaptación y en su mayor parte tiene éxito, aunque sea lenta a veces todo lo demás hace que valga la pena verla, yo le doy 7.8/10.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are great in the role of Elphaba and Glinda, in particular Ariana Grande really surprised me with her portrayal of Glinda because her role could have been superficial and she brought comedy and emotion and managed to create a more complex character underneath. Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero also brings some charm and depth to what could have been a simple love interest role. Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond are supporting actors who I felt were underutilized and The Wizard is played by Jeff Goldblum and you can see his charm and manipulation, although his musical numbers are not as strong as the rest of the actors.

I really liked the set design and the costumes but I must criticize some of the special effects, especially the talking animals, and in the end the film does too many things wrong. The central performances and the main musical numbers are very good, the first act seems out of place and the film begins to come to life once Elphaba and Glinda become friends. At this point it finds its rhythm. The scene where Elphaba finally stands up to the corrupt regime of the Wizard when she discovers the truth about how the animals are being silenced and oppressed in Oz and refuses to join the Wizard's government and decides to rebel and be branded a villain is very powerful, here Elphaba literally rises above the crowd while Glinda lags behind, leaving the two to go their separate ways.

Another thing I liked was the way they created such a real friendship between Elphaba and Glinda, despite their differences, and my favorite musical scenes were "Popular" and "Defying Gravity." The ending of Wicked leads to that moment when Elphaba finally breaks free from the shackles of the corrupt Oz system and discovers the true nature of the Wizard and his role in the oppression of the talking animals and stands up in the Emerald City, the way the scene unfolds with Glinda desperately trying to convince her friend to stay and conform and Elphaba choosing to rebel, is a good mix of emotions.
