The Night Agent; Feels like Jason Bourne without the amnesia.

Since this week has been fairly busy and the weekend is already buzzing, this would be a really good time to talk about something from the cinematic universe. Yeah, let's talk Movies and TV shows.

The show I'm reviewing in this post is fresh off my watchlist. I just watched it this week and the show ticked a lot of boxes for me. Netflix really did a good job on this one after feeding us with a series of disappointing TV shows. This particular one is said to give the feeling of "Jason Bourne without the amnesia". Haha.

The show captivates us with a very intriguing opening sequence where a bomb is planted in a train. Luckily for the passengers, an FBI agent happened to be there and noticed something fishy about the dude who was carrying out the bomb attack.

The FBI agent got close to the abandoned bag, dug into it, and noticed it was a bomb. He successfully stopped the train and alarmed the passengers to get off before the bomb blew up. His "heroic" act was supposed to earn him some medals. Instead, the track record his Dad had as someone who sold info to terrorists made it easy for the young lad to be tagged as a suspect in the bombing attack.

He got sidelined from operations and got pulled into the Night Action Program, a special Ops unit in the FBI that works directly under the directive of the President. He wasn't really a Night Agent. He was just buried with paperwork as a phone boy in the basement of the organization.

In his position, he's meant to receive distress calls from Night Agents who run into life/death situations during operations. The phone he watches over is reputable as a phone that never rings. However, in a very rare situation, a call came through to the phone, and the person on the other side of the call was being chased down by assassins.

I've recently started to pay attention to American Politics and I think the level of Politics highlighted in this show hits home in many ways. The level of crime, cover-ups, fabrications, assassinations, and whatnot are also "interesting". Now, I'm curious to know if this is nearly as accurate as how things happen in real life. It may even be worse in real life. You can never really tell until you dig deep enough.

I had high expectations when I started watching this and I'm glad they made the show a very captivating one. Though that was expected, it is still appreciated. The only thing I would raise an eyebrow about is the hand-to-hand combat scenes. Those scenes were sold well by the actors and director. It didn't feel like a superhuman was in a fight. Instead, it felt like real people fighting for their lives.

The problem with that is that it lacked the cinematic sleekness that makes such fight scenes thrilling to watch. It was just like watching folks engage in an MMA battle. I guess that's still a plus for the show. Although, I would have preferred hand-to-hand fight scenes that are more flashy with a lot of camera tricks. Haha. I don't mind getting tricked for a spicy fight scene.
