Lost - Semi Review

Me and Aimee started watching lost a few weeks ago, and we're really enjoying it so far. Currently we're on the 2nd season, of 6 in total.

The Story

The story revolves around the main character, Jack, waking up on a beach filled with chaos, and after a short time we understand that there was a plane crash, and many of the survivors are in shock.

Due to him being a doctor - I suppose - he was able to act fast, and work through the stress of the situation to come up with quick solutions and kind of drag people together, which kind of set him in a leadership position there after.

Throughout, there has been power dynamics, love interests, and general exploration of their new home, which seems to raise more questions about this mysterious island.

The Characters

I really like the choice of revolving each episode around different characters of the cast.

Another thing which is cool, is that while a particular character takes centre stage, we get some insight into their backstory, and what they were doing prior to getting on the airplane.

Through these backstories, we also see that in some small way, most of the characters had actually spoken, interacted, or were in the vicinity of one another, prior to even being at the airport.

There aren't any characters in the show that I don't like, and I find each of the backstories really interesting.

Some of my favourites are, Charlie (whose backstory is fairly good, and the band he was in and the dynamic of said band instantly made me and Aimee think of Oasis.)

I like Sawyer as well, and he has been fairly comedic throughout the show so far. The reveal in his backstory is good, and there are some slight twists and turns there.

Kates backstory is also pretty cool, as is Hugo's, and Jin and Suns... and Locke's... ahh hell, all of the backstories are good, and each one is different to a certain extent, which shows some talent on the writers behalf.

Weirdness

There are many things that happen during the show which kind of leave you asking, wtf?

So, to name a few -

  • Dinosuars, or giants of some kind stalk the island out of sight of the camera.
  • Some weird black mist comes around and attempts to grab people.
  • There are others living on the island, who have been there for a while, and who seem to be attacking/ killing people.

There are other weird things, like, for example, Polar Bears attacking the characters at one point.

Strange all round, but still fairly interesting, and if anything, these mysteries turn an otherwise interesting show into something entirely different.

I'd be kind of happy to just watch a drama series that only focused on survivors of a plane crash trying to survive, and get rescued, and in some ways I find that all this madness in the background kind of takes away from what could be a very interesting show in its own right.

Having to deal with things like, settling arguements among people, potential divides, and modern people devolving into tribals could be really interesting alone. Although, the only problem is, where would you go from there without some other big mysterious waiting in the sidelines.

Overall, I think it's a cool show, but some of the bigger things in the background seem like its becoming a bit irritating.

It's a long show too, with 20+ episodes each, in the first two seasons alone. It's a long one, but considering each one is dedicated to a different character, it kind of has to be that long.

Currently, we're watching between 2, and 3 episodes a night. So, we might have it finished by Christmas if we carry on with it.

I think I watched the first episode, but didn't get into it. It may be streaming somewhere I could watch, but I have so much other stuff to watch and so it's way down the list. I have heard that the ending was not great, but you can still enjoy the story as it goes along.

I remember when it first came out. I watched it on a small box television that must've been about 11". I was hooked from the first episode. I followed it religiously throughout its first season, made sure I never missed an episode. Then after the first season, it switched to a channel only on Sky. We didn't have Sky at the time. I was so mad at that, I didn't get to follow it from there on. Never did manage to get back into it!

I never had Sky, so I have missed a few things. It is on Disney+, so I could watch it now. I am working through Game of Thrones on charity shop DVDs for now.

I'm definitely missing Disney+. Really disappointing that they aren't operating here in Georgia. They also don't in Armenia. Weirdly they are in Turkey though which is basically neighbouring both countries. Might be an EU Thing.

You should get yourself a VPN, they're relatively cheap, and there are many benefits to having them, but the main one is that you can open every library of each streaming service.

Plug a laptop into the TV and you're good to go.

That's so annoying when stuff like that happens. It's on Netflix, and I think it's on Disney too, but not sure.

You should watch a recap of the first season and start from season 2.

It's on Netflix, that's where we're watching it at the moment.

There are so many shows that annoy people with the endings, at the moment we're enjoying the journey, and are currently about half way through the 2nd season.

If you like Lost, you might like the newer series From. It has a bit more of a horror theme to it, but it's incredibly similar in its atmosphere!

Oh sick I'm going to stick that on the list and check it out! I'll watch the trailer of it.

Cool, i think i Will watch it

Well worth checking it out, and seeing what you think of it.

It's a really decent show, but in fairness I'm only on season 2 currently so can't speak for how it'll all turn out.
