Karishika: Queen of the coast

Greetings!

In Nigeria, whenever you mention the name *Karishika, what comes to mind is a witch. This association comes from one of the best-selling movies back in the day, in 1996, where a girl named Karashika was released from the Kingdom of Darkness to earth with the mission to bring men and women to hell. I watched the movie when I was very young, so before writing this, I went back to do some research. Watching the movie again was hilarious, especially the effects, which now seem quite unappealing to the eyes. It’s really only the storyline that stands out.

Now, my interest lies in the music released by Falz, titled Karishika. The song has parts 1, 2, and 3 and shares the exact title of the movie from back then.

So here’s a question: What if, as a guy, you found out that your fiancée or wife is a witch? I mean, a real, practicing witch?

Foreigners reading this might overlook it because they may not believe in the existence of witches. However, in Africa—especially in Nigeria—witchcraft is considered very real, and it’s possible to find yourself married to a witch or wizard without knowing it. Just like the movie and the song portray, Karishika is a witch sent from the kingdom of darkness to earth to destroy the lives of men. This idea is considered quite real and still exists today. Haven’t you heard stories about spirits from the marine world coming to earth in the form of prostitutes? These entities supposedly have relationships with men, and afterward, the men’s lives are never the same—in a negative way.

There are many stories about these sex workers who aren’t actually human but engage in these acts for a sinister purpose. Does this sound too superstitious? Well, it's what we've been hearing and seeing, and the evidence can be compelling.

Let me intrigue you further. I once had a workmate, a lady in my previous organization. She told me she had a marine trait in her, which her parents informed her of when she was growing up. According to her, the marine influence is a positive one because each guy she dates doesn’t go broke as long as he’s intimate with her. This almost made me consider dating her, but I was genuinely scared of getting involved with a marine girl. Lol

So if there are supposedly “good” ones, what makes you think there aren’t also “bad” ones—those possessed with dangerous, malevolent spirits?
These could be girls who, once you have intimacy with them, cause negative things to start happening in your life.

Imagine dating a girl possessed with an evil spirit, and at night, she transforms into a cat, an owl, or a snake. It sounds impossible, but just picture that kind of scenario. Where would you run to?

This is exactly what Falz and the other artists he featured are expressing in the song, crying out to God to save them from dating or getting involved with a “Karishika”—a girl who is possessed, a demon from the otherworldly coast.

Part 3 of the song

Thanks for reading.

I remember that movie quite well. The "Karishika" role was played by a Nigerian beauty queen then whom I really liked back then. The film was meant to be scary but I enjoyed watching it. I guess I'm not afraid of witches 😂😂😂

Mate what do they call that nowadays when you make assumptions about other ethnicities? !LOLZ just kidding I get you but trust me Witchcraft is everywhere, it´s part of being human that many people prefer to ignore.
