Godzilla Minus One
I think that, without a doubt, “Godzilla Minus One” is one of the best movies of this year. I don't know if it's enough to be the best movie, but it's among the best.
The movie takes place in the setting of World War II and we follow the story after Japan lost the war and surrendered to the United States.
After the entire platoon is wiped out by the ferocious creature, a kamikaze airplane pilot returns to his village to find that it is totally destroyed, as Japan has lost the war and has also been the victim of these attacks that have caused fires and left many homeless.
The fact that this airline pilot has returned home means only one thing: that he has not fulfilled his mission to give his life for the Japanese cause, which is a disgrace, and he is a victim of social commentary for not having done what he should have done to help the Japanese military.
Thus, Ryuuichi Yamashita is forced to confront the inner demons and traumas left by the war. Although the war is over, the pilot often repeats to himself that his war is not over yet. He relives it every day in one way or another.
In the interest of moving on, Yamashita comes to have a somewhat complicated relationship with a girl and a little baby girl. He comes to take care of both of them, but without really being emotionally attached to them, or well, that's what he mistakenly thinks.
Kamikaze's breaking point is when, in a fit of anxiety, he doesn't know if he has died in the war and that everything he is living is a dream or a nightmare. He does not know how to distinguish reality from the past. The pilot is still living the torments of the past war, which makes him unable to live in the present.
“Godzilla Minus One” is not just a movie about a big prehistoric monster that kills people and destroys entire cities; it is much more than that. The film is supported by a great narrative that builds a story with almost no low points or missteps, with characters that carry the story and with whom it is possible to empathize.
In fact, Godzilla's screen time is very little for a movie that is precisely about the monster, but every second is very well used. This is a plus for the film, as it knows how to make the most of the monster's screen time and also rests on the idea of what Godzilla represents.
“Godzilla Minus One” is a slap in the face to most Hollywood movies, which with multi-million dollar budgets can't make quality movies and fall short with the CGI issue, which many times is very bad, with stories that are copy-paste from each other and with a pattern that applies to almost every movie.
I thought I was bored of hero or anti-hero movies, but no, I'm just tired of the empty stories and script mistakes in most of the current movies.
If you haven't seen “Godzilla Minus One” yet, believe me it is highly recommended. In fact, it's been a long time since a movie has left me wanting to see it again.

Creo que, sin lugar a dudas, "Godzilla Minus One" es una de las mejores películas de este año. No sé si le alcance para ser la mejor película, pero está entre las mejores.
La película se desarrolla en el ámbito de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y seguimos la historia después de que Japón perdiese la guerra y se rindiese ante los Estados Unidos.
Después de que todo el pelotón fuera barrido por la feroz criatura, un piloto de avión kamikaze regresa a su pueblo para encontrarse con que este está totalmente destruido, puesto que Japón ha perdido la guerra y también ha sido víctima de estos ataques que han causado incendios y han dejado a muchos sin hogar.
El hecho de que este piloto de avión haya regresado a su casa solo significa una cosa: que no ha cumplido su misión de entregar su vida por la causa japonesa, lo que es una deshonra, y es víctima de los comentarios sociales al no haber hecho lo que debía para ayudar al ejército japonés.
Así pues, Ryuuichi Yamashita se ve obligado a enfrentar los demonios internos y los traumas que le ha dejado la guerra. Aunque esta ya ha terminado, el piloto suele repetirse que su guerra no ha acabado todavía. Él la revive a diario de una u otra manera.

El punto de quiebre del kamikaze es cuando, en un ataque de ansiedad, no sabe si ha muerto en la guerra y que todo lo que está viviendo es un sueño o una pesadilla. No sabe distinguir la realidad del pasado. El piloto sigue viviendo los tormentos de la guerra pasada, lo que hace que no pueda vivir el presente.
"Godzilla Minus One" no es solamente una película de un gran monstruo prehistórico que mata personas y destruye ciudades enteras; es mucho más que eso. La película se sustenta en una gran narrativa que construye una historia casi sin puntos bajos ni errores, con personajes que acarrean la historia y con los que es posible empatizar.
De hecho, el tiempo en pantalla de Godzilla es muy poco para una película que va precisamente del monstruo, pero cada segundo está muy bien utilizado. Esto es un punto a favor de la película, ya que sabe aprovechar el tiempo en pantalla del monstruo y también descansa en la idea de lo que Godzilla representa.
"Godzilla Minus One" es una bofetada en la cara a la mayoría de las películas de Hollywood, que con presupuestos multimillonarios no pueden hacer películas de calidad y quedan a deber con el tema del CGI, que muchas veces es muy malo, con historias que son copy-paste unas de otras y con un patrón que se aplica a casi todas las películas.
Creía que estaba aburrido de las películas de héroes o antihéroes, pero no, solo estoy cansado de las historias vacías y los errores en el guion de la mayoría de las películas actuales.
Si aún no ha visto "Godzilla Minus One", créame que está muy recomendada. De hecho, hacía mucho tiempo que una película no me dejaba con las ganas de volverla a ver otra vez.
