It is no secret that the best audiovisual school in Venezuela is located at the University of the Andes (ULA) in Merida. It may be a subjectively irresponsible statement, but that is what is said.

The professor and actress, Francyelizabeth Zerpa, teaches the course "Direction of Actors and Fundamentals", and as if I had been just another student, she welcomed me with a smile. I, meanwhile, had my camera with a charged battery to do my thing.

Being there reminded me of my time as a university student, when the energy to create in order to improve I don't know what, was the daily impulse.

Not that I saw this to remind me of my romantic self, but that I was also part of a group that enjoyed the teachings of someone like the teacher, whom some call Miel, in reference to the endearing character of Matilda.

Her way of teaching the classes evoked the movie's fiction, and the students listened attentively to the indications to improvise based on the guidelines.

For example, there was a practice where they had to emulate the behavior of an animal of their choice, and the rest had to guess what species it was. At one point I thought about performing, I imagined a platypus, but then I drew a blank because I had no idea what one looked like.

The content of the performances was varied. Topics such as pregnancy, protests, cannibalism, the penitentiary system, psychiatry, debts, etc. were discussed.

As a film enthusiast (euphemism), I found it fascinating to have been in a career class as a listener. My way of thanking is with this series of photographs that I think captured everything you just read.

Para nadie es un secreto que la mejor escuela audiovisual de Venezuela se encuentra en la Universidad de los Andes (ULA), en Mérida. Tal vez sea una afirmación subjetivamente irresponsable, pero es lo que se dice en el gremio.

La profesora y actriz, Francyelizabeth Zerpa, dicta el taller de Dirección de actores y fundamentos, y como si hubiera sido un alumno más, me recibió con una sonrisa. Yo, mientras tanto, tenía la cámara con batería cargada para hacer lo mío.

Estar allí me hizo recordar mi tiempo como estudiante universitario, cuando la energía por crear en miras de mejorar no sé qué, era el impulso de cada día.

No es que haya visto esto como para acordarme de mi yo idealista, sino que también formé parte de un grupo que disfrutaba las enseñanzas de alguien como la profesora, a quien algunos llaman maestra Miel, en referencia al entrañable personaje de Matilda.

Su forma de dictar las clases no solo evocaron la ficción de la película, sino que los alumnos escuchaban atentamente las indicaciones para improvisar en base a lineamientos.

Por ejemplo, hubo una práctica donde se debía emular el comportamiento de un animal, y el resto debía adivinar de qué especie se trataba. En un momento pensé en hacer el performance, me imaginé un ornitorrinco, pero luego me quedé en blanco porque no tenía idea de cómo era uno.

El contenido de los performance fue variado. Se tocaron temas como embarazo, protestas, canibalismo, sistema penitenciario, psiquiátrico, deudas, etc.
