Tenía mucho tiempo sin escribir sobre películas, el año pasado aunque ví algunas no me di el tiempo de sentarme a escribir y compartir, espero continuar haciéndolo. Este año comencé viendo series. Hoy quiero compartir mis impresiones de la primera película que veo de 2024, aquí voy. Gracias por estar aquí.

I hadn't written about movies in a long time. Although I watched some last year, I didn't take the time to sit down and write and share. I hope to continue doing so. This year, I started watching series. Today, I want to share my impressions of the first movie I watched in 2024. Here I go. Thank you for being here.

Estoy escribiendo estos textos minutos después de ver La Sociedad de la Nieve, debo aclarar que decidí ver la película en dos partes por netflix, particularmente porque es extensa y comencé a verla a las 9:30pm y necesitaba dormir temprano, así que la terminé de ver el día siguiente. Te comento esto, porque si decides verla, te recomiendo que lo hagas a una hora conveniente, yo no me resistí (y eso que no había visto el tráiler), honestamente, quería verla por la recomendación de una buena amiga, quién no dijo spoiler alguno, sólo destacó la importancia de creer y luchar por la vida, lo cual sin duda me motivó a verla.

Nota: Te advierto que si quieres ver la película no te dejes influir con tanto contenidos en internet y mírala primero antes de leer o ver algún adelanto, incluso evita esta lectura, eso sí, luego que veas la película regresa para que intercambiemos impresiones.

I'm writing these texts minutes after watching Society of the Snow. I must clarify that I decided to watch the movie in two parts on Netflix, particularly because it's long and I started watching it at 9:30pm and needed to sleep early, so I finished watching it the next day. I mention this because if you decide to watch it, I recommend doing so at a convenient time. I couldn't resist (even though I hadn't seen the trailer), honestly, I wanted to watch it because of a good friend's recommendation, who didn't give any spoilers, just highlighted the importance of believing and fighting for life, which definitely motivated me to watch it.

Note: I warn you that if you want to watch the movie, don't let yourself be influenced by so much internet content and watch it first before reading or watching any preview, even avoid reading this text. However, after watching the movie, come back so we can exchange opinions.

Quiero admitir que no conocía absolutamente ningún contexto de la película y los hechos que la relacionan, aunque ahora conocí datos muy importantes y algunas noticias tanto de la historia como de la producción. A este punto ya hay miles de reacciones en internet, la película ha tenido muchos elogios, nominaciones, seguramente los críticos del cine devoran líneas con sus impresiones fabulosas, aunque lo más importante es que hay un libro que fundamenta la película y es del autor Pablo Vierci, así que hay mucho material para educarse sobre este largometraje.

¿De qué trata la película?. Está recreada en el año 1972 , cuando un vuelo de la Fuerza Aérea que trasladó algunos deportistas con destino de Uruguay a Chile, tienen un accidente en la cordillera de los andes, hay pérdidas humanas y algunos sobrevivientes, todo esto en uno de los lugares más inhóspitos, fríos del mundo y con pocas probabilidades para sobrevivir.

Hasta ahora no he leído ninguna review para que no influya en mis impresiones, pero si ya has visto algunas informaciones en torno a esta película que da inicio a este año, igual me emociona compartir contigo mis reflexiones.

I want to admit that I knew absolutely no context about the movie and the facts related to it, although now I have learned very important information and some news about both the history and the production. At this point, there are already thousands of reactions on the internet, the movie has received many praises, nominations, surely the film critics devour lines with their fabulous impressions, although the most important thing is that there is a book that underpins the movie and it is by the author Pablo Vierci, so there is a lot of material to educate oneself about this feature film.

What is the movie about? It is set in the year 1972, when an Air Force flight that transported some athletes from Uruguay to Chile has an accident in the Andes mountain range, there are human losses and some survivors in one of the most inhospitable and cold places in the world, with few chances of survival.

So far, I haven't read any reviews so that it doesn't influence my impressions, but if you have already seen some information about this movie that starts off this year, I am still excited to share my reflections with you.

Luz en la tragedia

Esta película tiene dos vertientes relevantes para mi: una que los proyectos del cine nunca dejarán de ser majestuosos y permiten contar historias, ideas, propuestas e inmortalizar mensajes que lleguen al planeta entero, de ser necesario. Y por otro lado, me encanta que esta película nos enseña, no solo a sobrevivir, sino cómo hacerlo de manera cooperativa. De allí que, me gustaría disertar un poco desde mis lentes, lo que observo siempre con una mirada humana y de valor social.

Me quiero apoyar en mis planteamiento en los aporte del biólogo chileno Humberto Maturana, quien dice sobre la biología del Amor:

Todo ser humano requiere para vivir a otro ser humano, fundamentado en el mutuo respeto y la honestidad y eso es la base de la vida en sociedad. (Consulta online, fecha: 9-1-24 Fuente)

La lección más grande para mi de esta película es reiterar la importancia de convivir con base en el respeto mutuo, esto solo es posible cuando nos une un propósito común; en el caso de la película se plantea una situación que reta a los hombres y mujeres de esta historia para sobrevivir a un fatal accidente, que de manera cruda, triste y desgarradora se muestra la vida y la muerte como hermanas eternas que nos acompañan y que son parte del cotidiano, porque los seres humanos “todos los días estamos muriendo”, pero mientras existan razones y motivos para vivir hay que seguir, aún cuando no sabemos con certeza que nos depara el amanecer.

Light in tragedy.

This movie has two relevant aspects for me: one is that cinema projects will never stop being majestic and allow us to tell stories, ideas, proposals, and immortalize messages that reach the entire planet, if necessary. And on the other hand, I love that this movie teaches us not only to survive, but how to do it cooperatively. Therefore, I would like to discuss a little from my perspective, what I always observe with a human and social value.

I want to rely on the contributions of Chilean biologist Humberto Maturana, who talks about the biology of Love:

Every human being needs another human being to live, based on mutual respect and honesty, and that is the basis of life in society. (Online consultation, date: 9-1-24 Source).

The biggest lesson for me from this movie is to reiterate the importance of coexisting based on mutual respect, which is only possible when we share a common purpose. In the case of the movie, a situation is presented that challenges the men and women of this story to survive a fatal accident, where life and death are shown in a raw, sad, and heartbreaking way as eternal sisters that accompany us and are part of our daily lives, because we, humans, "are dying every day," but as long as there are reasons and motives to live, we must continue, even when we don't know for certain what the dawn holds for us.

Aunque la película puede ser predecible, pienso que tiene un contenido admirable tal como el ímpetu, la virtud de creer, aún cuando sabes que lo tienes todo por perder, cuando parece que ya no hay más horizonte, cuando sientes que todo terminó, allí inician nuevas luchas y si éstas se comparten resulta mejor, eso también lo podemos llamar Amor, somos seres biológicamente amorosos.

Quiero destacar que me hice muchas preguntas, que admiré la capacidad de resolución de conflicto, lo que más me generó impacto no fue la tragedia sino la insistencia y el apoyo mutuo. También fue alentador como se mostró de manera minuciosa que “lo moralmente correcto” se trastoca y se cuestiona en un momento de tanta rudeza como la de sobrevivir y que incluso algunas acciones socialmente no aceptadas, deben ser revisadas y consensuadas en sociedad, cuidando que tu necesidad de vivir no afecte a otras personas, de allí que reposan los principios éticos. Tal como dice Savater: “La ética no es más que el intento racional de averiguar cómo vivir mejor.” (Etica para Amador, 1991).

Algo que me gustó de la película, es mostrar cómo en medio de la calamidad causada por la tragedia, la decisión y el proceder, se pueda discutir y acordar, trascendiendo la idea de buena o malo, por una idea más trascendental: “todas las personas somos necesarias en medio de las circunstancias”, reconocer esto es aún nuestro mayor desafío como pequeña comunidad, ahora pensemos el camino que tenemos que recorrer para lograr una conciencia más planetaria para el bien común. (Disculpen la utopía).

Although the movie can be predictable, I think it has an admirable content such as the impetus, the virtue of belief, even when you know you have everything to lose, when it seems that there is no more horizon, when you feel that everything has ended, there new struggles begin and if they are shared it is better, we can also call that Love, we are biologically loving beings.

I want to emphasize that I asked myself many questions, that I admired the capacity for conflict resolution, what impressed me the most was not the tragedy but the insistence and mutual support. It was also encouraging to see how it was shown in a meticulous way that "what is morally correct" is overturned and questioned in a moment of such harshness as survival and that even some socially unacceptable actions must be reviewed and agreed upon in society, taking care that your need to live does not affect other people, that is where ethical principles lie. As Savater says: "Ethics is nothing more than the rational attempt to find out how to live better." (Ethics for Amador, 1991).

Something I liked about the movie is how it shows that, amidst the calamity caused by the tragedy, decision and action can be discussed and agreed upon, transcending the idea of good or bad, for a more transcendental idea: "all people are necessary in the midst of circumstances", recognizing this is still our greatest challenge as a small community, now let's think about the path we have to take to achieve a more planetary consciousness for the common good. (Excuse the utopia).

Más que una película de una tragedia

Les comento que estaba viendo la película con mi esposo y no pudo seguir, particularmente porque hace años vivió un accidente donde murieron 18 personas, así que la película puede remover recuerdos y susceptibilidades, creo que logra el propósito de la crudeza y cercanía a un hecho tan triste como este. Por eso, creo que no es necesario que juzguen a nadie que no quiera verla o no tengan ningún tipo de opinión al respecto. Quizás hay personas que no les parezca tan impactante y eso también se respeta, yo al menos la vi con calma y solo al final me solté y me conmovió mucho.

Un poco de lo que estuve revisando de la película, fue sobre la dirección y producción de la película, dirigida por el español Juan Antonio Bayona, de quien también realizó un filme que vi en alguna oportunidad, la película es “Lo imposible”, que igualmente desarrolla una historia sobre la tragedia natural del tsunami ocurrido en 2004 en el océano Índico, que anteriormente ya conocía lo ocurrido por las noticias.

Honestamente, sin saber nada previo del director, me di cuenta que La sociedad de la nieve tenía detalles muy interesantes en cuanto al maquillaje tan “real”, incluso notarán otras cosas cosas muy interesantes que mostraron del proceso biológico de los personajes y que ha tenido incluso reconocimiento sobre evidenciar explicaciones médicas del proceso del accidente, de allí que cada quien lo ve desde su lente, pero claro está que la documentación y la investigación realizada se nota en todo.

A mi me gustó mucho cómo recrearon las escenas, hay diálogos muy reflexivos, traté de no familiarizarme con ningún personaje, pero lo hice especialmente con los principales: Numa por la determinación de cuándo seguir y cuándo no; Nando, por su constancia y la pareja Javier y Liliana, por la enseñanza de que las heridas no nos hace débiles, sino más fuertes y hay razones para continuar, aún teniendo mucho dolor.

Creo que es una muy buena película que nos enseña a desmontar la idea que para sobrevivir no necesitamos destruir.

Cierro con esto: "Sobrevivir siempre será heróico, quien muere por accidente será recordado por siempre, pero quien dejó su cuerpo y alma reposar en paz y aceptar con tranquilidad el abrazo de la muerte, para mi es legendario".

More than a film about a tragedy

I comment that I was watching the movie with my husband and he couldn't continue, particularly because he had an accident years ago where 18 people died, so the movie can bring back memories and sensitivities, I think it achieves the purpose of rawness and closeness to a sad event like this. That's why I also believe that no one should judge anyone who doesn't want to watch it or have any opinions about it. Perhaps there are people who don't find it so shocking and that is also respected, at least I watched it calmly and only at the end did I let go and it moved me a lot.

A bit of what I was reviewing about the movie was about the direction and production of the film, directed by Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona, who also made a film that I saw on some occasion, the movie is "The Impossible", which also develops a story about the natural tragedy of the tsunami that occurred in 2004 in the Indian Ocean, which I already knew about from the news.

Honestly, without knowing anything prior about the director, I realized that Society of the Snow had very interesting details regarding the makeup, so "real", you will even notice other very interesting things that were shown about the biological process of the characters and that have even been recognized for providing medical explanations of the accident process, hence everyone sees it from their perspective, but it is clear that the documentation and research done is evident throughout.

I really liked how they recreated the scenes, there are very reflective dialogues, I tried not to get familiar with any character, but I did especially with the main ones: Numa for the determination of when to continue and when not to; Nando, for his perseverance and the couple Javier and Liliana, for the lesson that wounds do not make us weak, but stronger, and there are reasons to continue, even with a lot of pain.

I think it is a very good movie that teaches us to dismantle the idea that to survive we do not need to destroy.

I close with this: "Surviving will always be heroic, he who dies by accident will be remembered forever, but he who let his body and soul rest in peace and accept with tranquility the embrace of death, for me is legendary".
