"Elemental" is an animated film by Pixar. The story is about the four elements: fire, water, earth and air, personified and living in a city called Element City, which is like New York City on steroids with a little magic. I think Pixar has outdone everyone once again with the graphics in this movie, it has lots of bright, saturated colors and there is so much detail in every scene that you just want to freeze time and take it all in. The plot revolves around Ember Lumen, a 20-year-old girl who comes from a family of immigrants who own a food shop called The Fireplace. Ember is a girl who is always causing trouble and her parents are never happy with her. One day she meets Wade Ripple, a water boy who is always crying and can't imagine fire and water together, but of course, as in all the movies, they end up falling in love.

Elemental es una película animada de Pixar, la historia trata sobre los cuatro elementos: fuego, agua, tierra y aire, personificados y viviendo en una ciudad llamada Element City, es como si fuera la ciudad de Nueva York pero con esteroides y algo de magia. Creo que Pixar ha superado a todos una vez más con los gráficos de esta película, tiene muchos colores brillantes y saturados y hay muchos detalles en cada escena que uno sólo desea congelar el tiempo y asimilarlo todo. La trama gira en torno a Ember Lumen, una chica de 20 años que viene de una familia de inmigrantes dueños de una tienda de comida llamada La Chimenea. Ember es una muchacha que siempre está echando chispas y sus padres nunca están contentos con ella, un día conoce a Wade Ripple, un chico agua que siempre se la pasa llorando y nada más imagino fuego y agua junto, pero claro como en todas las películas terminan enamorándose.

The idea of fire and water falling in love is a bit cheesy rather than romantic and it doesn't really make sense, they can't even touch without turning into steam. These love stories between two people who are never meant to be together are a classic theme like Romeo and Juliet, here the film tries to talk about important things like difference and immigration, although it can sometimes feel a bit forced. This plot centers on Ember risking everything to keep her family's shop from being closed and she has the help of Wade although he is not very convinced especially when they get into trouble with the city council. Throughout this adventure there is a subplot about water leaks in Firetown, which in my opinion could have been a much more attractive subject if they had focused on that story but it fades away and what stands out is the whole romantic plot.

La idea de que el fuego y agua se enamoren es algo cursi más que romántico y la verdad no tiene ningún sentido, ni siquiera pueden tocarse sin convertirse en vapor, estas historias de amor entre dos personas que nunca están destinadas a serlo es un tema clásico como Romeo y Julieta, aquí la película trata de hablar de cosas importantes como la diferencia y la inmigración, aunque a veces pueda sentirse algo forzado. Esta trama se centra en Ember arriesgando todo para que la tienda de su familia no sea cerrada y cuenta con la ayuda de Wade aunque no está muy convencido sobre todo cuando se meten en problemas con el ayuntamiento, en toda esta aventura hay una subtrama de fugas de agua en Firetown, que a mi parecer pudo haber sido un tema mucho más atractivo si se hubieran centrado en esa historia pero se desvanece y lo que sobresale es toda la trama romántica.

Leah Lewis is the voice of Ember, the most impulsive character in the film, and Ember only has one angry mode. She became a bit annoying after a while and I started to wonder why Wade likes her so much. Wade is voiced by Mamoudou Athie and he is a young man who cries or is about to cry and who falls in love with Ember, the truth is that it is very strange, their romance is quite weak and that is a problem since the movie revolves around that. Ember's parents, voiced by Ronnie Del Carmen and Shila Ommi, are the typical immigrant parents who always expect a lot from their children. The other elemental characters are used to give a comical tone and to set the world, although I would have liked them to be included in the whole plot and for it to be better developed or to see how the elements work on a day-to-day basis.

Leah Lewis es la voz de Ember el personaje más impulsivo de la película y Ember sólo tiene un modo enojada, se volvió algo fastidiosa después de algún tiempo y me empecé a preguntar por qué Wade gusta tanto de ella, a Wade le pone voz Mamoudou Athie y se trata de un joven que llora o está a punto de llorar y que se enamora de Ember, la verdad es muy extraño su romance es bastante débil y eso es un problema ya que la película gira en torno a eso. Los padres de Ember con la voz de Ronnie Del Carmen y Shila Ommi son los típicos padres inmigrantes que siempre esperan mucho de sus hijos. Los otros personajes elementales se usan para dar un tono cómico cómico y para ambientar el mundo aunque a mí me hubiese gustado más que estuvieran incluidos en toda la trama y se desarrollara mejor o se viera cómo funcionan los elementos en el día a día.

My opinion of this film is that it was quite predictable and I was also somewhat confused by the concept of Elemental City and its logic, for example the fact that Wade is living water and Ember's family lives in a wooden house when they are made of fire, if you start looking for logic in that you might miss the point of the film. Something I really liked was the visual effects, the animation is good and the way Pixar captures these basic characters is wonderful, the effects of fire on Ember are very detailed as her flames change color according to her mood. The concept of elements as cultures is interesting and there are moments when it works, the main theme is immigration and intercultural conflict, Ember having to choose between the cultural expectations of the two places she belongs to, however I felt that the film wanted to say too many things I don't know if it's a love story, a story about youth, the story of an immigrant or a detective story, all mixed up in one.

Mi opinión sobre esta película es que ha sido bastante predecible además quedé algo confundida con el concepto de Ciudad Elemental y su lógica, por ejemplo eso de que Wade es agua viva y que la familia de Ember vive en una casa de madera cuando están hechos de fuego, si empiezas a buscarle la lógica a eso puede que te pierdas de la película. Algo que me gustó bastante fue los efectos visuales, la animación es buena y la forma en que Pixar plasma estos personajes básicos es maravillosa, los efectos del fuego sobre Ember son muy detallados ya que sus llamas cambian de color según su estado de ánimo. El concepto de los elementos como culturas es interesante y hay momentos en los que funciona, el tema principal es la inmigración y el conflicto intercultural, Ember al tener que elegir entre las expectativas culturales de los dos lugares a las que pertenece, sin embargo sentí que la película quería decir demasiadas cosas no sé si es una historia de amor, una historia sobre la juventud, la historia de un inmigrante o una historia policial, todo mezclado en uno.

I found it hard to concentrate because I was always looking for the logic, for example, where is the economy in a place where one component can physically end up being the other? And why are there pipes full of water in Firetown? I know it's a children's film and I shouldn't pay attention to that kind of thing but I think Pixar knows how to put together very good plots this was a bit lacking. The ending of the film is quite obvious, Ember no longer wants to inherit the family shop but to dedicate herself to glassmaking, this creates a strong confrontation with her parents in which she has the first and last word about herself and her feelings. At the same time, the water leak problem is bigger and now all of Firetown could flood, Ember and Wade are forced to come together to save the city, in this case Ember has to use her fire ability to block the leak using a glass shield she received from Wade, I thought it was a bit trite to be honest but once again I must remember that it is a children's film, the message here is that you have to believe in yourself and pursue your dreams. The last scene of the film shows Ember making glass and working in the family shop at the same time and Wade supporting her, they find a way to love each other without destroying each other which I guess is a nice message but they don't give any details of what their life together will be like. This film didn't touch my heartstrings like Up or Inside Out but it's nice to watch although I don't think it's Pixar's best film. Score 6.8/10.

Me costó concentrarme porque siempre estaba buscando la lógica por ejemplo, dónde está la economía en un lugar donde un componente puede acabar físicamente al otro? ¿Y por qué hay tuberías llenas de agua en Firetown? yo sé que es una película para niños y que no debería darle importancia a ese tipo de cosas pero yo creo que Pixar sabe armar muy buenas tramas esto faltó un poco. El final de la película es bastante obvio, Ember ya no quiere heredar la tienda familiar sino dedicarse a la fabricación de vidrio, esto crea un fuerte enfrentamiento con sus padres en el que ella tiene la primera y última palabra sobre sí misma y sus sentimientos. Al mismo tiempo, el problema de la fuga de agua es más grande y ahora toda Firetown puede inundarse, Ember y Wade se ven obligados a reunirse para salvar la ciudad, en este caso Ember tiene que usar su habilidad de fuego para bloquear la fuga usando un escudo de cristal que ha recibido de Wade, me pareció algo trillado la verdad pero una vez más debo recordar que es una película de niños, aquí el mensaje es que hay que creer en uno mismo y perseguir los sueños. La última escena de la película muestra a Ember fabricando vidrio y trabajando en la tienda familiar al mismo tiempo y a Wade apoyándola, encuentran una forma de quererse sin destrozarse el uno al otro lo que supongo que es un bonito mensaje pero no dan detalle de cómo será su vida juntos. Esta película no tocó mi fibra sensible como Up o Inside Out pero es bonita de ver aunque no creo que sea la mejor película de Pixar. Puntuación 6.8/10.
