Teamwork is important is everything we do involving other people. It's how division of labor is maximized. Each member of a team has a role, and the roles are assigned to those who can fulfill those roles best. When a team member can't perform for some reason, the rest of the team picks up the slack. When the team returns to full strength, the team fires on all cylinders.

Teamwork is just as important when the team consists of close friends. This is what happened with George Lucas in his early days as a film maker. He had established friendships with figures such as Francis Ford Coppola, and Coppola gave him opportunities to direct out of film school. George Lucas assisted Steven Spielberg on the special effects side for his movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. When they teamed up for the Indiana Jones series of movies, Lucas let Spielberg direct them.

Teamwork is best displayed when we see sports franchises in action. Most team members have been together for a long time, while others are new arrivals with various levels of experience. During the course of the regular season, they get used to each other's styles, strengths, and weaknesses. By the time the regular season ends, the more successful teams continue to play into the playoff or tournament play. Eventually two teams remain to claim the championship, and ultimately the championship is awarded to one of them. The championship team is the team which displayed the best teamwork.

By 1997, special effects technology had progressed to the point where George Lucas belived that he could direct the movies he wanted to direct.

Before directing again, he updated the original Star Wars movies with this technology and re-released the trilogy as Special Edition films. A few scenes were exclusive to the SE movies, and many scenes were retouched for clarity. However, a few scenes had noticeable changes due t the inclusion of the updated special effects; most notable of these are those featuring the destruction of the Death Star.

George Lucas returned to the director's seat with The Phantom Menace (1999), the first movie of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. While the original trilogy was centered around Luke Skywalker, the prequel triology was centered around Anakin Skywalker (his father). Unlike for the original trilogy, Lucas would direct all three movies in the prequel trilogy. Attack of the Clones was released in 2002, and Revenge of the Sith was released in 2005.

Once the prequel trilogy was done, Lucas left the director's seat once again to shift his work to production. He created two animated Star Wars series for television. First came Star Wars: Clone Wars, which aired from 2003 to 2005. After a 3-year break came _Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008–13).
