Hōhokekyo Tonari no Yamada-kun Movie Review (ESP/ENG)

In my journey through all the films of Ghibli Studios this time I came across a peculiar one in many ways, not only in the animation (very different from what Ghibli is used to) but also in the narrative and the story as such, since it is based on the comic strip of the same name by Hisaichi Ishii, was the first film of the studio that was made by computer and is the fourth production of Isao Takahata, if you do not know him I will tell you that he was nothing more and nothing less than the creator of the classic kodomo genre “Heidi, the girl from the Alps” and “Marco” (the story of the Italian boy who in search of his mother travels to Argentina) but without further ado let's start with this review 😉
En mi viaje a través de todos los films de los Estudios Ghibli en esta ocasión me encontré con uno peculiar en muchos sentidos, no solo en la animación (muy diferente a lo que Ghibli acostumbra) sino también en la narrativa y en la historia como tal, ya que está basado en la tira cómica homónima de Hisaichi Ishii, fue la primera película del estudio que se realizó por computadora y es la cuarta producción de Isao Takahata, si no lo conoces te diré que fue nada más y nada menos que el creador de los clásicos del genero kodomo "Heidi, la niña de los alpes" y "Marco" (la historia del niño italiano que en busca de su madre viaja hasta Argentina) pero sin más preámbulo iniciemos con esta review 😉

Basically, I can't give you a summary as such but a context, since this film does not consist of a beginning, development and series, like the others, but is based on sketches that are intended to illustrate a specific situation.
Básicamente no puedo darles un resumen como tal sino un contexto, ya que esta película no consta de un inicio desarrollo y serie, como las demás, sino que está basada en sketches que pretenden ilustrarnos acerca de una situación en específico.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
Before I knew that the movie was based on a comic strip, I had already had that impression. I especially like the beginning because the film starts with the wedding of Matsuko and Takashi (the parents of the Yamada family) where an older woman begins to give them advice for their new married life, while all this happens we see a series of images that illustrate in a metaphorical way what will be their new life together, the images show the characters going through storms, but we also see them in peaceful meadows, which could allude to the ups and downs of life itself. On the other hand, I like the fact that this film shows us the routine and coexistence of a typical Japanese family, in the same way we met The Simpsons in the US.
Antes de saber que la película estaba basada en una tira cómica ya me había dado esa impresión. Me gusta mucho sobre todo el inicio porque la película parte con la boda de Matsuko y Takashi (los padres de la familia Yamada) donde una mujer mayor comienza a darles consejos para la nueva vida de casados, mientras todo esto sucede vemos una secesión de imágenes que ilustran de una forma metafórica lo que será su nueva vida juntos, las imágenes muestran a los personajes atravesando tormentas, pero también los vemos en prados apacibles, lo que podría aludir a los altibajos de la vida misma. Por otra parte me gusta el hecho de que esta película nos muestra la rutina y convivencia de una familia típica japonesa, de la misma manera en que conocimos a Los Simpson estadounidenses.
What we see at the beginning is nothing more than an analysis of life itself from the point of view of an older and experienced woman, but then we see all this materialized through the sketches: existential doubts, moments of tension, routine, but also the pleasant and happy moments, but best of all is that although they illustrate a reality, they do it with humor, making everything tremendously funny, like that scene where the family is shopping and suddenly they realize that they left Nonoko at the mall 🤣. Far from being desperate, crying, Nonoko waits patiently and even gives confidence and reassurance to another child who was also lost, while in the car, the rest of the Yamada's do nothing but apportion blame.
Eso que vemos al inicio no es más que un análisis de la vida misma desde el punto de vista de una mujer mayor y experimentada, pero luego vemos todo esto materializado a través de los sketches: Dudas existenciales, momentos de tensión, rutina, pero también los momentos gratos y felices, pero lo mejor de todo es que aunque ilustran una realidad, lo hace con humor, haciendo que todo resulte tremendamente divertido, como esa escena donde la familia está de compras y de pronto se dan cuenta que dejaron a Nonoko en el centro comercial 🤣. Lejos de estar desesperada, llorando, Nonoko espera con paciencia e incluso le brinda confianza y tranquilidad a otro niño que también estaba perdido, mientras que en el carro, el resto de los Yamada no hacen más que repartir culpas.
Truly it was a great success to have seen this movie, it is totally out of the conventional standards of its animation studio, but it keeps you entertained from the beginning to the end, for me, it is one of the best, without a doubt one of my favorites, so I totally recommend it, if you feel like watching it you can find it in the Netflix catalog 😃. De verdad que fue un gran acierto haber visto esta película, se sale totalmente de los estándares convencionales de su estudio de animación, pero te mantiene entretenido desde el inicio al final, para mi, es una de las mejores, sin lugar a dudas de mis favoritas, así que la recomiendo totalmente, si les apetece verla pueden encontrarla en el catálogo de Netflix 😃.
