My favorite analog horror movies (ESP/ENG)

Hello my dear cinephile friends, today I come here with a very personal selection of some analog horror films that made my hair stand on end, because this subgenre is usually even creepier than traditional horror, haven't you noticed that Asian horror films are usually creepier than the ones we see on this side of the planet? That's because many of them resort to this type of resources, but to start with my selection I would like to clarify any doubts you may have and explain very well what this analog horror refers to.
Hola mis queridos amigos cinéfilos, hoy vengo por aquí con una selección muy personal de algunos films de Horror analógico que me pusieron los pelos de punta, ya que este subgénero suele ser incluso más escalofriante que el terror tradicional, ¿No han notado que las películas de horror asiáticas suelen ser más escalofriantes que las que vemos de este lado del planeta? Eso es porque muchas de ellas recurren a este tipo de recursos, pero para iniciar con mi selección me gustaría aclarar las posibles dudas que ustedes puedan tener y explicar muy bien a se refiere esto del horror analógico.
Analog horror is a subgenre of horror that is used both in film and television, and even in video games, basically it is projections of random images, most of them with vintage style, very retro, usually in VHS format of very low quality, which gives it an aged appearance but at the same time increases the anxiety that is generated in the viewer are also common cryptic messages but what generates more anxiety or curiosity is the fact that these films give the impression of having been “found” out there, so they do not seem to be produced professionally, but look like something totally real.
El horror analógico es un subgénero del terror que se usa tanto en cine, como en televisión, e incluso en videojuegos, básicamente se trata de proyecciones de imágenes al azar, la mayoría de ellas con estilo vintage, muy retro, por lo general en formato VHS de muy baja calidad, lo que le da una apariencia envejecida pero al mismo tiempo incrementa la angustia que se genera en el espectador también son usuales los mensajes crípticos pero lo que a lo mejor genera más ansiedad o curiosidad es el hecho de que estos metrajes dan la impresión de haber sido "encontrados" por ahí, así que no parecen ser producidos de forma profesional, sino que se ven como algo totalmente real.
The Ring/El Aro
The version I saw was the remake, but actually this movie is of Asian origin since, as I told you, they are very good with this sub genre. It is impossible to forget the image of Samara emerging from the TV very slowly but with a terrible predatory attitude, but no one can deny that even more unforgettable was the succession of strange images that were on the cursed tape, which served as a means of transmission of the curse, these images seemed out of the dreaded Deep Web, but the original version is even more frightening as these scenes look more bizarre, as if it were directed or starring crazy people doing nonsense.
La versión que yo vi fue el remake, pero en realidad esta película es de origen asiático ya que, tal y como les dije, ellos son muy buenos con este sub genero. Es imposible olvidar la imagen de Samara emergiendo del televisor muy lentamente pero con una terrible actitud depredadora, pero nadie podrá negar que aún más inolvidable fue la sucesión de imágenes extrañas que se encontraban en la cinta maldita, la cual servía como medio de transmisión de la maldición, estas imágenes parecían salidas de la temida Deep Web, pero la versión original es incluso más aterradora ya que estas escenas se ven más bizarras, como si estuviese dirigida o protagonizada por locos haciendo cosas sin sentido.
VHS 2023
This is actually a saga of films whose main feature is the use of this resource, which gives it a sense of “authenticity”, but I consider that the best of all is the one that came out last year, in 2023, everything revolves around the visualization of VHS tapes, and I guess you must already imagine what we can see in them, things that confuse us and at the same time terrify us because they are bizarre and threatening, the retro format, the color palette used in the photography, the distorted sounds and the sepia or dark filters generate a terrible feeling of oppression and desire to flee, it is as if we were seeing it all in first person, well, and in a certain way it is so (therein lies the horror, that's the point).
Esta es en realidad una saga de películas cuya característica principal es el uso de este recurso, el cual le brinda una sensación de "autenticidad", pero yo considero que la mejor de todas es la que salió el año pasado, en el 2023, todo gira en torno a la visualización de cintas de VHS, y supongo que ya ustedes deben imaginar lo que podemos ver en ellas, cosas que nos confunden y al mismo tiempo nos aterran porque son bizarras y amenazantes, el formato retro, la paleta de colores usada en la fotografía, los sonidos distorsionados y los filtros sepias u oscuros generan una terrible sensación de opresión y ganas de huir, es como si lo viéramos todos en primera persona, bueno, y de cierta forma es así (allí radica el horror, ese es el punto).
The Blair Witch Project/El proyecto de la bruja de Blair
This film, like the previous one, not only uses analog horror, but also “found footage”, which made many of us believe that it was something authentic, and of course this increased the horror, in fact it was so effective and so well used the resource that we never needed to see the supposed witch to terrify us, we did not know who she was, but we were scared by what we saw that she was causing in the hikers, in fact the Found Footage style was so effective that in this film only 60. 60,000 dollars were invested in this film and it grossed close to 250 million dollars. This film revived many nightmares in viewers: the fear of getting lost in a forest at night or worse, of being found by something terrifying.
Esta película, al igual que la anterior, no solo maneja el recurso del horror analógico, sino el del "found footage" (o metrajes encontrados) lo que nos hizo creer a muchos espectadores que se trataba de algo auténtico y desde luego esto incrementó el horror, de hecho fue tan efectivo y tan bien utilizado el recurso que nunca necesitamos ver a la supuesta bruja para aterrorizarnos, no sabíamos quien era ella, pero nos daba miedo por lo que veíamos que estaba causando en los excursionistas, de hecho el estilo Found Footage fue tan efectivo que en este film tan solo se invirtieron 60.000 dólares y recaudó cerca de 250 millones. Este film revivió muchas pesadillas en los espectadores: el miedo a perdernos en un bosque durante la noche o peor aún, a ser encontrados por algo terrorífico.
There really are many films of this type, but these three are the ones I liked the most, at least at the time, especially The Blair Witch Project. I think what makes these types of films so frightening is that these images resemble nightmares or episodes of sleep paralysis, things that obviously no one wants to live through, the sense of authenticity it generates makes it more “real” and less fantastical, like something that could happen to anyone.
Realmente hay muchos films de este tipo, pero estas tres son las que más me gustaron, al menos en su momento, sobre todo lo digo por El Proyecto de la Bruja de Blair. Creo que lo que hace que este tipo de películas sean tan aterradoras es que estas imágenes se asemejan a pesadillas o episodios de parálisis del sueño, cosas que obviamente nadie quiere vivir, la sensación de autenticidad que genera hace que sea más "real" y menos fantasioso, como algo que le pueda ocurrir a cualquiera.

Las películas de terror siempre serán un género y siempre están sacando nuevas donde muchas de ellas son excelentes como otras que son mucho relleno.
