The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon (Analysis ) ESP/ENG
Recently a series derived from the universe of The Walking Dead was released, based on one of the most important characters, Daryl Dixon, this spin-off shows us the adventures of the character far away from his country, specifically in France, where he could find the key that would give the answer and even a definitive solution to the problem that gave the world a turn of 180 degrees and marked a before and after in everyone's life, but the million dollar question is, is the show really that good?
Recientemente se estrenó una serie derivada del universo de The Walking Dead, basada en uno de los personajes más importantes, Daryl Dixon, este spin-off nos muestra las aventuras del personaje muy lejos de su país, específicamente en Francia, donde podría encontrar la clave que daría la respuesta y hasta una solución definitiva al problema que le dio al mundo un giro de 180 grados y marcó un antes y un después en la vida de todos, pero la pregunta del millón es ¿de verdad es tan buena la serie?

Negative aspects (in my opinion)

First of all I want to warn that if you haven't seen the series yet and you don't like spoilers you better not read this post because it is absolutely necessary to mention several points that might ruin your experience or first impressions.
En primer lugar quiero advertir que si aún no han visto la serie y no les gustan los spoilers será mejor que no lean este post debido a que es absolutamente necesario mencionar varios puntos que quizá puedan arruinar su experiencia o primeras impresiones.
First of all I want to highlight the negative points, or at least what I think are negative points, because this is all very relative and what I may find wonderful, you may find disgusting (or vice versa) Anyway, one of the first things I noticed that I found absolutely implausible is the fact that even though they are in France, conveniently all the characters around Daryl speak English 🤦♀ i.e. it is logical that many of them speak the language, being quite a tourist city, but the fact that absolutely ALL the characters Daryl meets speak English is very, very implausible, even the nuns of the abbey outside the capital spoke it, it seems that they all studied this language to welcome the foreigner 🤣. The good thing is that at least they took care of the details and when the French characters talk to each other they do it in their own language (most of the time, not always).
En primer lugar quiero resaltar los puntos negativos, o al menos lo que yo creo que son puntos negativos, debido a que todo esto es muy relativo y lo que a mi me puede parecer maravilloso, a ustedes puede parecerles un asco (o viceversa) En fin, una de las primeras cosas que noté y que me pareció absolutamente inverosímil es el hecho de que a pesar de que están en Francia, convenientemente todos los personajes que rodean a Daryl hablan inglés 🤦♀ es decir, es lógico que muchos de ellos hablen el idioma, siendo París una ciudad bastante turística, pero el hecho de que absolutamente TODOS los personajes que Daryl encuentra a su paso hablen este idioma es muy pero muy poco creíble, incluso las monjas de la abadía a las afueras de la capital lo hablaban, pareciera que todos estudiaron este idioma para recibir al extranjero 🤣. Lo bueno es que al menos cuidaron un poco los detalles y cuando los personajes franceses hablan entre ellos lo hacen en su propio idioma (la mayoría de las veces, no siempre).
Some people said that they made the series this way because English speakers don't like to read subtitles and therefore having the characters speak mostly French all the time would mean reading too many subtitles, but I think this is absurd because, as long as you can read, you wouldn't miss out on the action, I don't think English speakers would stop watching a series just because they don't want to read, it's unlikely, and it's something most people have to do when they watch English series and they're not English speakers, they have to read to understand. This would have made the scenes more believable.
Algunas personas dijeron que hicieron la serie de esta manera porque a los angloparlantes no les gusta leer subtítulos y por lo tanto hacer que los personajes hablaran mayormente francés todo el tiempo implicaría leer demasiados subtítulos, pero yo creo que esto es absurdo porque, siempre y cuando sepas leer, no te perderías de la acción, no creo que los angloparlantes dejen de ver una serie tan solo porque no quieran leer, es algo improbable, además es algo que tienen que hacer la mayoría de las personas cuando ven series en inglés y no son angloparlantes, tienen que leer para poder entender. Esto hubiese hecho las escenas más creíbles.
Another thing that conflicts me is the approach the series seems to be taking, i.e. I can intuit that Laurent is immune to the virus because he was in his mother's womb when she died and transformed into a walker, but now the whole thing seems to be taking a divine approach, as if Laurent is some kind of "messiah". Even the scene at the Eiffel Tower (where a horde of walkers was contained) the boy is surrounded by them..... how the hell did they get out of there, if you can tell they were contained for a long time? did they get out just because the boy was there?
Otra de las cosas que me genera conflicto es el enfoque que parece estar tomando la serie, es decir, puedo intuir que Laurent es inmune al virus debido a que estaba en el vientre de su madre cuando ella murió y se transformó en caminante, pero ahora todo esto parece estar tomando un enfoque divino, como si Laurent fuese una especie de "mesías" Incluso, la escena de la torre Eiffel (donde estaba contenida una horda de caminantes) el niño es rodeado por ellos.... ¿cómo rayos se salieron de allí, si se nota que estaban contenidos desde hace mucho tiempo? ¿se salieron tan solo porque el niño estaba ahí?
Another thing that I find impossible to believe is the scene where Isabelle finds the child she left outside the building where she lived, i.e. when all the chaos started, she left the child playing there, because she thought the mother would come looking for her, but how is it possible that the child was still there? Wow, it was many, many, many years after it all started, I don't know? I can understand that she was bitten and turned into a walker but it's not possible that she hasn't wasted away in such a long time, it would be more credible if they had found a skeleton trapped in the bushes instead of a little walker.
Otra cosa que me parece imposible de creer es la escena donde Isabelle encuentra a la niña que ella abandonó fuera del edificio donde ella vivía, es decir, cuando todo el caos comenzó, ella dejó a la niña jugando allí, debido a que ella pensaba que la madre vendría a buscarla, pero ¿cómo es posible que la niña todavía estuviese allí? Vaya! Pasaron muchos, pero muchísimos años luego de que todo inició, no lo sé... ¿unos doce años? entonces ¿cómo es posible que todavía permaneciera allí con su piel y músculos? puedo entender que la hallan mordido y se haya convertido en caminante pero no es posible que no se haya consumido en tanto tiempo, sería más creíble que hubiesen encontrado un esqueleto atrapado entre los arbustos en lugar de una pequeña caminante.
Another thing I don't like is that Daryl is making a lot of rookie mistakes, like leaving behind the tape recorder where he explains who he is and where he comes from, or attracting the attention of a horde of walkers unnecessarily... I don't know, I don't feel like that's something the Daryl I was used to seeing in the original series would do.
Otra de las cosas que no me gusta es que Daryl está cometiendo muchos errores de novato, como por ejemplo dejar tirada la grabadora donde explica quien es y de donde viene, o atraer la atención de una horda de caminantes innecesariamente... no lo sé, no siento que es algo que haría el Daryl al que acostumbraba a ver en la serie original.
Positive aspects(in my opinion)
Aspectos positivos (según mi opinión)
Even with all the elements that I didn't like about the series, I can't consider it to be bad at all, because it continues to conserve the typical essence of the original series, the performances are wonderful, you can see that there is commitment from the actors, despite the way they proceed in some scenes (like the ones I mentioned) Norman Reedus continues to offer us a very energetic and ironic character, sometimes a little bit harsh and implacable. As for Clémence Poésy who I only knew for her work as Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter, I was pleasantly surprised, she did a wonderful job, her character is enigmatic even, she has a wonderful ability to transmit through her facial expressions, although she pretends to be inexpressive, sometimes she shows a Monalisa smile that (although it pretends to express sympathy or security) shows a lot of inner pain.
Aún y con todos los elementos que no me gustaron de la serie, no puedo considerar que esté mal del todo, debido a que continúa conservando esa esencia típica de la serie original, las actuaciones son maravillosas, se nota que hay compromiso de parte de los actores, a pesar de la forma de proceder en algunas escenas (como las que mencioné) Norman Reedus sigue ofreciéndonos a un personaje muy enérgico e irónico, a veces un tanto soez e implacable. En cuanto a Clémence Poésy a quien yo solo conocía por su trabajo como Fleur Delacour en Harry Potter, me sorprendió gratamente, hizo un maravilloso trabajo, su personaje resulta enigmático incluso, tiene una maravillosa capacidad de transmitir a través de sus expresiones faciales, aunque pretenda ser inexpresiva, a veces demuestra una sonrisa de Monalisa que (aunque pretende expresar simpatía o seguridad) demuestra mucho dolor interno.
I love the cinematography of the show, with that faded filter that denotes the passage of time and the destruction of an apocalyptic environment, with an excellent handling of light and shadow, and golden tones that denote warmth and security in moments of calm.
Adoro la fotografía de la serie, con ese filtro deslucido que denota el paso del tiempo y la destrucción de un entorno apocalíptico, con un excelente manejo de luces y sombras, y tonos dorados que denotan calidez y seguridad en los momentos de calma.
As for the setting Wow! they did a great job, Paris looks like a real post apocalyptic city, all the icons like the Seine river, the beautiful streets and everything else look deplorable and help the audience to get immersed in the story, and as for the Eiffel tower I think it looks tremendously realistic despite being CGI generated.
En cuanto a la ambientación ¡Wow! hicieron un magnifico trabajo, París luce como una verdadera ciudad post apocalíptica, todos los íconos como el río Sena, las hermosas calles y todo lo demás se ven deplorables y ayudan a la audiencia a sumergirse en la historia, y en cuanto a la torre Eiffel creo que se ve tremendamente realista a pesar de ser generada por CGI.
And I also like the camera shots, there are some that help the audience to understand the feelings of the characters, like the final scene of the most recent episode, in which Daryl contemplates a replica of the statue of liberty, we know perfectly well that he wants to return to his country, so seeing that replica must have generated a lot of nostalgia.
Y también me gustan los planos de cámara, hay algunos que ayudan a la audiencia a comprender los sentimientos de los personajes, como escena final del capítulo más reciente, en la que Daryl contempla una replica de la estatua de la libertad, sabemos perfectamente que él desea regresar a su país, por lo tanto ver esa réplica ha debido generarle mucha nostalgia.

Yo hace mucho que abandoné el mundo de The Walking dead, ni siquiera sé del todo cómo terminó, pero últimamente me han dado ganas de retomarla de nuevo y gracias a tu reseña supe que ya se estrenó esta serie, por lo que le daré una oportunidad sólo porque soy un amante de las historias de zombies. ¡Excelente reseña!
Yo me decepcioné un poco del final en realidad, por eso decidí ver los spin off para ver si me gustaban y este me gusta a pesar de los detalles que mencioné en el post, a pesar incluso de que no estuvo Carol y eso era algo que me generaba mucho malestar. En cuanto a Dead City (la serie de Negan y Maggie) no la he visto todavía.
