π»ππ πΉππππ π΄πππ ππ "The Red Sleeve" - Series Review
Thanks to this community of many good kdrama reviewers, I got this series recommendation from a few reviews I read and added it to my watch list for a while before I finally got to see it last week. Talk of a good recommendation, worth my time and "glad I decided to see it" is all there is after I saw this series.
To be frank, the male lead was the highest motivating factor I decided to see the series. Any kdrama fan would remember his remarkable role in "King The Land" and some except me and others, have seen him in "The Confession". Well, I wanted to see him in a native attire hehe.
The series "The Red Sleeve" is a 17 episode series released in the year 2021-2022 which isn't as old as I had thought it was considering how long it took me to decide to see it. It's a series focusing on another historical storyline but unique and interesting as expected.
The storyline goes like this... A righteous crown prince who is scarred by his dead father's story is finding all means to become a king who would change things and take away the bad things his grandfather, the king has done to the people. Along the line, he falls in love with a court maid who he began to pursue to make her his royal concubine but she kept refusing.
The series is also about a bold and smart young court maid of the palace who enjoys her small life and loves her closest friends so much. She falls in love with the crown prince who becomes king but can't give up her free life to become a royal concubine.
The scenes ensued a series of twists and troubles the lead characters have to face as they journey to making the country a peaceful one again. It's a series that would keep you glued to your screen for it's many intriguing scenes.
Well, my focus is on the court maid Seong Deok Im starred by Lee Se-yeong, the female lead from the popular recent series "The Story of Park's Marriage Contract". Even before the crown prince, she is the main focus of the series as her role took huge turns and twists to keep viewers on the screen. At first, I love her for how different she was from the other court maids while being happy about her life.
Later, I could tell she would definitely become a royalty as a wife to the crown prince who fell in love with her from when they were kids. It was quite predictable until she gave us a twist, "she never wants to become a royal concubine" and she kept giving the king of the country a hard time... It was so unexpected and fascinating, I must say.
Eventually she becomes his royal concubine which seem like a "no choice" thing but things went well until another twist I wasn't comfortable with but have to accept as the writer has prepared it like that for us.
I won't say the series have a sad ending but it isn't a happy one either, it was just worth my time. The storyline is unique for everything and I like the cultural display, especially the display of how powerful a king can be on his people and how love can be more powerful.
In all, I'll recommend this series again to anyone who would love romance, drama and history in a series. The characters did a great job and you'd be in for laughter as well. I'll rate the series a 7/10 and that's for keeping me in the middle of no sad and no happy ending lol.
What do you think about the series, have you seen it before or you'll see it after this series?

Anyways I will have it on my list. Since itβs historical I might get enticed

A whole king π
Letβs see how it goes π.
Sounds interesting, it doesn't sound like something for me. But then again I telenovelas in Spanish so maybe I would like it. I guess the difference is I speak Spanish!
