I think there's a Korean series called Taxi driver too, I thought this was it but obviously not, since it had NYC play a role in itk hehe.
Looks like an interesting movie, nice review.

There are many versions of this movie; you are not wrong. After this film's great success, many countries made similar films, and they were also hit.
I have watched the Korean one, it was good too. If you have time to watch this original one, you will not regret it.
