Esta cinta trata del padre de Venus y Serena Williams, dos de las mejores tenistas de todos los tiempos, Richard Williams, quien al parecer luego de ver un partido de tennis de Virginia Ruzici, creó un plan de vida donde tendría dos hijas, a las cuales convertiría en campeonas de este deporte. Aunque muchos lo tildaron de loco por sus métodos tan poco ortodoxos y el manejo de la carrera de su hijas fuera de lo normal, terminó impulsándolas a ambas al olimpo del tenis.

En cuestión, fue la escena del partido contra la española Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, quien no sólo ganó limpiamente su partido, sin el uso de artimañas, sino que además fue muy superior su rival.

En cuanto a las actuaciones, Will Smith fue el mejor en esta cinta, siendo sin duda, la mejor actuación que le recuerde, encajando a la perfección en el personaje, aunque también hay que mencionar que se manejo y se dirigió la trama para que este pudiera lucirse, siendo su proyecto mas ambicioso en busca de un Oscar como mejor actor, el cual logró finalmente. Así mismo, el resto del elenco estuvo muy bien, teniendo que resaltar sobre todo a Saniyya Sidney como Venus Williams, pero sobretodo a Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, quien intepreto a la madre de las Williams, y de quien no se habla pese a su sacrificio para lograr el desarrollo de las tenistas.
