The New Star Wars series The Acolyte takes us back to a time frame never visited in the Movies or Series before. The High Republic era, as it is called, is an era that predates any of the movie and series material so far; the start of the series takes place approximately 132 years before Episode IV A New Hope.

Its focus is on the Jedi Order at its peak, with the Jedi religion represented in a way reminiscent of the prequel movies, which showed the fall of the Jedi Order. The show starts with a Jedi played by Matrix veteran Canadian actor Carrie Ann Moss as a Jedi Master. She fits the role of a Jedi quite well, in my opinion.

The music and tone of the show really feel right for Star Wars, right down to the pale blue text at the beginning of the first episode, which sets the stage for the era we are about to get into. One of the first things I noticed is that the fight scenes have a martial arts style to them, which really suits the idea of what the Jedi are. I found the action starts almost immediately and we are taken through a fast-paced opening few minutes before the scenes slow down a bit to introduce some of the other characters we will be seeing more off.

I enjoyed seeing a few different types of Jedi, such as Sol played by Lee Jung-jae and the green skinned alien Jedi Vernestra Rwoh played by Rebecca Henderson. The show unfolds as a murder mystery, almost like a detective show, which I find suits the style of what the Jedi would have been capable of. There are definitely some twists and turns that may or may not subvert expectations as to what is going to play out in the final 6 episodes so the remaining few episodes will be interesting to see how they play out.

It looks like another installment of "The Force is Female" to me. I'll probably watch it anyway.
