[ESP-ENG] Film Review: Dinner in America | An absurd and hilarious American love story.

Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero se encuentren bien el día de hoy. Hace un tiempo ví está película llamada Dinner in America pero me pareció demasiado lenta o simplemente en ese momento no estaba cómoda para verla y darle una oportunidad a pesar de que tiene muy buenas críticas, pero hace unos días mi hermana quien también es amante del cine y de las series me sugirió verla, al principio no me pareció buena idea pero le di una oportunidad y me pareció completamente absurda y divertidísima, así que los invito a leer que tal me pareció 🤭.

Some time ago I saw this movie called Dinner in America but I found it too slow or simply at that time I was not comfortable to watch it and give it a chance even though it has very good reviews, but a few days ago my sister who is also a lover of movies and series suggested me to watch it, at first I did not think it was a good idea but I gave it a chance and I found it completely absurd and hilarious, so I invite you to read how I found it 🤭.

La película Dinner in America fue dirigida por Adam Rehmeier y se estrenó en el año 2022, la película gira en torno a la historoa de dos jóvenes completamente diferentes en personalidad y en su forma de ver la vida, Simon es un joven músico punk interpretado por Kyle Gallner que tiene serios problemas de comportamiento y que esta siendo buscado por la policia local y mientras decide esconderse recorre la ciudad hasta que en un intento por no ser capturado por la policía conoce a Patty, una joven interpretada por Emily Skeggs que aparenta cierta inocencia y que aunque es alguien fuera de lo que se podria llamar "normal" de inmediato recuerda a Simon porque ambos fueron a la escuela juntos.

The movie Dinner in America was directed by Adam Rehmeier and was released in the year 2022, the film revolves around the story of two young people completely different in personality and in their way of seeing life, Simon is a young punk musician played by Kyle Gallner who has serious behavioral problems and is being sought by the local police and while he decides to hide he wanders the city until in an attempt to avoid being caught by the police he meets Patty, a young woman played by Emily Skeggs who appears innocent and although she is someone out of what could be called "normal" she immediately remembers Simon because they both went to school together.

Simon intentando parecer lo más calmado posible le pide a Patty que le deje quedarse en su casa mientras se prepara para escapar o encuentra una solución a su problema con la policía. Patty le dice que puede quedarse pero solo por poco tiempo y que además debe presentarle a su familia primero porque si no sería muy obvio que algo extrano está sucediendo. Mientras Simon está con la familia de Patty hay bastante caos pero no ocurre nada tan grave para que lo echen de la casa, ahora tiene que lidiar con todas las preguntas que Patty le hace y toda la información innecesaria que no desea saber pero que debe escuchar por su propio bien.

Simon trying to appear as calm as possible asks Patty to let him stay at her house while he prepares to escape or finds a solution to his problem with the police. Patty tells him that he can stay but only for a short time and that he must also introduce her to his family first otherwise it would be very obvious that something strange is going on. While Simon is with Patty's family there is quite a bit of chaos but nothing so serious happens to get him kicked out of the house, now he has to deal with all the questions Patty asks him and all the unnecessary information that he doesn't want to know but must listen to for his own good.

Patty le menciona que quisiera ir a un concierto de su banda favorita pero que la única forma de ir es que él la acompañe, pero cuando le menciona el nombre de la banda Simon cambia de inmediato de parecer y huye de la casa de Patty y de su loca obsesión por el vocalista de la banda de punk que resulta ser él mismo. A través de una serie de encuentros absurdos y situaciones ridículas, la película profundiza en temas como la búsqueda de identidad, la amistad y el amor, todo ello envuelto en un tono de comedia que me hizo reír a carcajadas y sentirme nostálgica al mismo tiempo.

Patty mentions to him that she would like to go to a concert of her favorite band but that the only way to go is for him to accompany her, but when he mentions the name of the band Simon immediately changes his mind and runs away from Patty's house and her crazy obsession with the lead singer of the punk band who happens to be himself. Through a series of absurd encounters and ridiculous situations, the film delves into themes such as the search for identity, friendship and love, all wrapped up in a comedic tone that made me laugh out loud and feel nostalgic at the same time.

Está historia de romance, comedia y un poco de humor negro representa con cada uno de los personajes, situaciones, música y escenografía un completo retrato de la vida en América, desde el ver a jóvenes tener más libertad y hacer cosas a una edad para la que no están preparados, ver cómo es el comportamiento de una familia normal en américa y todos los pensamientos y comportamientos que van arraigados a la cultura estadounidense. Es una historia que cuenta la vida de una joven que no entra en los parámetros de un ser humano normal pero que piensa y siente de la forma más auténtica que un ser humano puede ser, que viene de una familia dónde cada uno tiene sus propios problemas pero aún así ella mantiene la esperanza de una joven que comienza sus 20s para vivirlos intensamente dentro de sus posibilidades y que al encontrarse con Simon se da cuenta de que hay muchas cosas en ella que son positivas y que él puede ver más allá de lo que pueda parecer superficialmente.

This story of romance, comedy and a bit of black humor represents with each of the characters, situations, music and scenery a complete portrait of life in America, from seeing young people have more freedom and do things at an age for which they are not prepared, see how is the behavior of a normal family in America and all the thoughts and behaviors that are rooted in American culture. It is a story that tells the life of a young woman who does not fit the parameters of a normal human being but who thinks and feels in the most authentic way that a human being can be, who comes from a family where everyone has their own problems but still she maintains the hope of a young woman who begins her 20s to live them intensely within her possibilities and that when she meets Simon she realizes that there are many things in her that are positive and that he can see beyond what may seem superficially.

Ambos personajes son totalmente opuestos pero eso es lo que hace que está película sea divertida y llena de momentos de humor, además de que la química entre ambos es bastante notable también la historia que pudo ser una más del montón demostró que se pueden hacer películas del mismo tema pero que sólo el que la dirige y la escribe puede agregar ese toque original como lo fue en Dinner in America. Me gustó mucho más que la primera vez que la vi y que no la termine, eso me deja como reflexión que debo darle una oportunidad a las cosas antes de dejarlas a un lado. De las mejores cosas que tiene está película además del director y los actores son la escenografía y la música, en la escenografía podemos ver los típicos lugares de América como los restaurantes antigüos al estilo de los 90s y también las casas y el ambiente en el que se desarrolla la película. Y la música es el plus más importante porque a través de ella se conectan ambos personajes de una manera única y que nos muestra el sonido Punk que es uno de los mejores entre mis gustos musicales, es algo muy genial poder escuchar el soundtrack dentro de una película y luego volver a escuchar las canciones y recordar la película.

Both characters are total opposites but that's what makes this movie fun and full of humorous moments, besides the chemistry between the two is quite remarkable also the story that could be one more of the pile showed that you can make movies of the same theme but only the one who directs and writes it can add that original touch as it was in Dinner in America. I liked it much more than the first time I saw it and I didn't finish it, that leaves me as a reflection that I should give things a chance before I put them aside. One of the best things that this movie has besides the director and the actors are the scenery and the music, in the scenery we can see the typical American places like the old restaurants in the style of the 90s and also the houses and the environment in which the movie takes place. And the music is the most important plus because through it both characters are connected in a unique way and it shows us the Punk sound which is one of the best among my musical tastes, it is something very cool to listen to the soundtrack inside a movie and then listen to the songs again and remember the movie.

Para mí está película fue bastante buena y siento que si les gustan las películas diferentes con estilo indie y que cuentan historias alocadas como las de Patty y Simon puede que está tambien les parezca una buena película. La pueden encontrar en la aplicación de Magistv, PrimeVideo, MUBI y en cualquier página online de películas tanto en idioma español como subtitulada. For me this movie was pretty good and I feel that if you like different movies with indie style and that tell crazy stories like Patty and Simon's you might find this one a good movie too.
