[ESP/ENG] Film Review: The Upside of Anger | Más allá del odio 🎬

Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero que se encuentren bien el día de hoy renovando energías para comenzar una nueva semana ☺️. Ayer ví una película que había comenzado hace unos días pero que no la termine de ver en su momento por cortes de energía eléctrica en mi ciudad. La película se llama The Upside of Anger es del año 2006 y tiene casi dos décadas desde que se estrenó, por alguna razón no conocía nada de esta historia y me salió recomendada por internet, la trama parecía bastante interesante y divertida a la vez así que me dispuse a mirarla.

Hello friends of the Movies & Tv community, I hope you are feeling well today, renewing energies to start a new week ☺️. Yesterday I saw a movie that I had started a few days ago but did not finish watching at the time due to power outages in my city. The movie is called The Upside of Anger is from 2006 and has almost two decades since it was released, for some reason I did not know anything about this story and it was recommended on the internet, the plot seemed quite interesting and funny at the same time so I decided to watch it.

La trama nos cuenta la vida de Terry Wolfmeyer (Joan Allen) una mujer dedicada a su matrimonio y a criar a sus cuatro hijas adolescentes, pero de un momento a otro su esposo desaparece dejándola devastada porque según lo que ella piensa él la engañó con su secretaria y se fueron juntos a otro lugar. Esto para una mujer como ella ya en sus 50s le sienta muy mal, es aquí cuando comienza todo el drama y la ira que desborda y que trata de encontrarle un sentido a su vida después de entregar todo por su familia y su esposo.

The plot tells us the life of Terry Wolfmeyer (Joan Allen) a woman dedicated to her marriage and raising her four teenage daughters, but suddenly her husband disappears leaving her devastated because according to what she thinks he cheated on her with his secretary and they went to another place together. This for a woman like her in her 50s is very bad for her, this is when all the drama and anger begins and she tries to find a meaning to her life after giving everything for her family and her husband.

En medio de todo el drama que vive Terry, tiene que continuar con su vida de alguna manera y velar por el bienestar de sus cuatro hijas que se encuentran en diferentes etapas de la adolescencia y que tienen diferentes sueños para su futuro. Las hijas tratan de tomar la situación de manera tranquila para no alterar más a su madre que se encuentra pasándola mal pero ellas también viven el proceso de darse a la idea de que su padre no fue una buena persona al irse sin siquiera despedirse o decir algo al respecto de la situación.

In the midst of all the drama that Terry is going through, he has to somehow continue with his life and look out for the welfare of his four daughters who are in different stages of adolescence and have different dreams for their future. The daughters try to take the situation in a calm way so as not to upset their mother who is having a hard time, but they also live the process of realizing that their father was not a good person when he left without even saying goodbye or anything about the situation.

En esta historia también entra un nuevo hombre llamado Denny Davies (Kevin Costner) a la vida de Terry y sus hijas, él es vecino de ellas y se encuentra buscando al esposo de Terry ya que tenían planes de hacer un proyecto en una terreno que está sin usar dentro de la casa de Terry. Ella le dice que haga lo que quiera y le cuenta que su esposo no va a volver. De aquí en adelante Terry y Denny van teniendo acercamientos y de alguna forma comienza a conocerse, entre mal entendidos, momentos de humor y tal vez el nacimiento de un nuevo comienzo para ambos como amigos o como una relación formal.

In this story also enters a new man named Denny Davies (Kevin Costner) to the life of Terry and her daughters, he is a neighbor of them and is looking for Terry's husband as they had plans to do a project in a land that is unused inside Terry's house. She tells him to do whatever he wants and tells him that her husband is not coming back. From here on Terry and Denny get closer and somehow begin to know each other, between misunderstandings, moments of humor and perhaps the birth of a new beginning for both of them as friends or as a formal relationship.

Entre los mensajes que me dejó está película está el del poder de los nuevos comienzos, muchas veces pensamos que cuando algo termina es lo peor que nos pudo haber sucedido y además le agregamos todas esas emociones negativas a la situación que lo único que nos hace sentir es ira. En medio de una familia viviendo cada una su propio duelo al no estar su padre con ellas se unieron más como hermanas y a la vez le dieron la fuerza suficiente a su madre para que supiera que la vida continuaría y que vendrían cosas mejores para ellas.

Among the messages that this movie left me is the power of new beginnings, many times we think that when something ends it is the worst thing that could have happened to us and we also add all those negative emotions to the situation that the only thing that makes us feel is anger. In the midst of a family living their own grief, each one living their own grief when their father was not with them, they became closer as sisters and at the same time they gave enough strength to their mother to know that life would go on and that better things would come for them.

Es una historia que dura unas dos horas pero que te mantiene viendo la película ya que es muy entretenida, es como si estuvieras viendo una novela pero corta, además de que el toque de humor dentro de la historia hace que se sienta más real y que se aprecie el mensaje que quiso dejar o que al menos me dejó a mi. Las actuaciones de los protagonistas estuvieron bastante bien y la de las hijas también destacaron en la historia. Dirigida por Mike Binder, The Upside of Anger nos recuerda que la vida es imperfecta pero que siempre hay razones para sonreír y ser feliz a pesar de las circunstancias, dónde la unión familiar es clave para que las cosas sean más llevaderas. Me gusto mucho y espero que también la puedan ver 💫.

It is a story that lasts about two hours but it keeps you watching the movie because it is very entertaining, it is as if you were watching a novel but short, plus the touch of humor in the story makes it feel more real and you can appreciate the message he wanted to leave or at least it left me. The performances of the main characters were quite good and the daughters also stood out in the story. Directed by Mike Binder, The Upside of Anger reminds us that life is imperfect but there are always reasons to smile and be happy despite the circumstances, where family unity is key to make things more bearable.
