Last week I told you my opinion about a movie of the catastrophe genre (you can see that review here) and honestly I wanted to see another one, but this time I made a list and I discarded movies that were similar to this one, I wanted something different to have another perspective of this kind of movies and that's how I got to this one that is the one I want to talk about today, so welcome dear friends of the community to a new review of a movie from more than a decade ago that maybe some of you know and without more to add, I will talk about "The Impossible", let's start.

This movie, released on October 11, 2012, belongs to the catastrophe genre as I mentioned at the beginning, but it also has a lot of dramatic suspense. What makes this movie different from the others is that it is based on a true story and this always generates a certain impact. In this movie we will follow the story of a family that flies from Japan to Thailand to spend the vacations at the beach at Christmas time. While enjoying themselves at the pool, a huge tsunami takes them by surprise and destroys everything around them.
What happens in the movie?
Let's talk a little bit about what happens in the film. The film begins in a calm way. We meet our protagonists, a family of 5 people made up of Maria, who is the mother, Henry, who is the father and their three sons. Lucas, Thomas and Simon. The family is on a flight to spend the Christmas vacations, here we can know a little more about the personalities of each of them and the most relevant of this scene is the feeling of union that exists in the family, small fights of brothers, but a love from the parents that has no comparison.

Our beloved family arrives at their vacation spot, which is no more and no less than Thailand, here they will stay in a resort, mainly they would stay in a room on the third floor, but due to management errors they are given a better place as compensation. We find out more information about our protagonists, Henry worked for a large company, so they tend to move constantly and Maria is a doctor, although she is not practicing at the moment because she is taking care of her children. For a moment they all observe the beauty of the resort, knowing that the next few days will be amazing there.

The following scenes are family moments where we can see how much they enjoy the place. They have family dinners, they enjoy the swimming pools, they have certain night activities as well. The atmosphere for everyone is filled with a lot of happiness. Christmas has arrived in Thailand, so Henry and Maria give presents to their children, who are quite excited. Again, scenes of everyone enjoying themselves and playing. The next day, after Christmas, seems to be a very quiet day. Everyone at the resort is enjoying themselves in some way and we observe some small talk about work between Henry and Maria, but which they prefer to talk about later. Henry heads off to play with the kids and something changes in the atmosphere, everything feels tense and, when no one least expected it, a colossal tsunami sweeps through the entire resort and separates our protagonists, who must try to survive the situation.

My opinion about the movie
From this point on I will tell you my opinion about the movie without mentioning any spoilers, so you can read on without any problems and then watch the movie if you wish. Let's talk mainly about the story, I feel that there is not much I can say about this, because I think that by mentioning to you that the plot is based on a true story of Dr. Maria Belon is reason enough to say that it is something unprecedented and honestly it doesn't seem to me similar to other movies about catastrophes, so it also has that added point of originality, I guess that's why reality overcomes fiction in many occasions.
The suspense that you feel in this movie is so palpable that personally it even stressed me a little bit because of all the things that were happening, but at the same time it kept me glued to the screen and at all times in my mind I kept repeating that what I was seeing is based on a true story and I don't know about you, but when they are movies like this I'm always more intrigued to know what will happen to the main characters, the same thing happened to me with "The Snow Society" and I think the reason for this is because there will always be something in your mind saying "this really happened to a person" and it just adds a certain sense of adrenaline to the movie.

The actors who played the main characters did an excellent job, but I want to give an honorable mention to the character of Lucas who was played by none other than a small Tom Holland, in this film you can appreciate the acting skills that he already had since he was a child, so I think that his performance from a certain point in the film is where you can really feel inside the story, so we could say that much of the success of the film depends on how well Tom Holland did, clearly without detracting from the other actors who did a great job.
The film in general terms is very good, I consider that it has many important aspects, as were the special effects, if we are aware of how the movies were in 2012 some special effects were not as well worked as in current films, but in this, however, I find them the most convincing that even on many occasions I kept thinking about how they made those scenes and this only speaks well of all the work both inside and outside the film, you can see that they really wanted to tell a story that called attention and they succeeded, because they got many nominations in different categories and were also winners of several others.

La semana pasada les comentaba mi opinión con respecto a una película del género de catástrofes (pueden ver esa reseña aquí) y honestamente me quedé con ganas de ver alguna otra, pero en esta oportunidad hice una lista y fui descartando películas que fuesen similares, quería algo diferente para tener otra perspectiva de este tipo de películas y así fue como llegué a esta que es de la que quiero hablarles hoy, por eso, sean bienvenidos queridos amigos de la comunidad a una nueva reseña de una película de hace más de una década que quizás algunos conozcan y sin más que agregar, les hablaré de “Lo imposible”, comencemos.

Esta película, estrenada el 11 de octubre del año 2012, pertenece al género de catástrofe como bien lo mencionaba al principio, pero también tiene mucho suspenso dramático. Lo que hace que esta película sea diferente a las demás es que, está basada en una historia real y esto siempre genera cierto impacto. En esta película seguiremos la historia de una familia que vuela desde Japón a Tailandia para pasar las vacaciones en la playa en época de Navidad. Mientras disfrutaban en la piscina, un gran tsunami les toma por sorpresa y destruye todo a su alrededor.
¿Qué sucede en la película?
Hablemos un poco de lo que sucede en la película. La misma comienza de una manera tranquila. Conocemos a nuestros protagonistas, una familia de 5 personas conformada por María, quien es la madre, Henry, quien es el padre y sus tres hijos. Lucas, Thomas y Simón. La familia se encuentra en un vuelo para pasar las vacaciones de navidad, aquí podemos conocer un poco más sobre las personalidades de cada uno de ellos y lo más relevante de esta escena es la sensación de unión que hay en la familia, pequeñas peleas de hermanos, pero un amor por parte de los padres que no tiene comparación.

Nuestra querida familia llega al lugar de sus vacaciones que no es más ni menos que Tailandia, aquí se hospedaran en un resort, principalmente se quedarían en una habitación en un tercer piso, pero por errores de administración les dan un mejor lugar como compensación. Descubrimos más información sobre nuestros protagonistas, Henry trabajaba para una gran empresa, por lo que se suelen mudar constantemente y María es médico, aunque no se encuentra ejerciendo de momento por el cuidado de sus hijos. Por un momento todos observan la belleza del resort, sabiendo que los siguientes días serán increíbles allí.

Las siguientes escenas son momentos en familia donde podemos ver lo mucho que disfrutan del lugar. Tienen cenas familiares, disfrutan de las piscinas, tienen ciertas actividades nocturnas también. El ambiente para todos está lleno de mucha felicidad. La Navidad ha llegado a Tailandia, por lo que Henry y María le dan regalos a sus hijos, quienes están bastante ilusionados. Nuevamente, escenas de todos disfrutando y jugando. Al día siguiente, luego de Navidad, parece ser un día de lo más tranquilo. Todos en el resort disfrutan de alguna manera y observamos una pequeña charla sobre trabajo entre Henry y María, pero que prefieren hablarlo después. Henry se dirige a jugar con los niños y algo cambia en el ambiente, todo se siente tenso y, cuando nadie menos se lo esperaba, un tsunami colosal arrasa con todo el complejo turístico y separa a nuestros protagonistas, quienes deben intentar sobrevivir a la situación.

Mi opinión sobre la película
A partir de este punto les contaré mi opinión sobre la película sin mencionar ningún spoiler, así que pueden seguir leyendo sin problemas y luego ver la película si así lo desean. Hablemos principalmente de la historia, siento que no hay mucho que pueda opinar sobre esto, porque creo que al mencionarles que la trama está basada en una historia real de la doctora María Belón es motivo suficiente para decir que es algo sin precedentes y honestamente no me parece similar a otras películas sobre catástrofes, por lo que también tiene ese punto añadido de originalidad, supongo que por eso la realidad supera la ficción en muchas ocasiones.
El suspenso que se siente en esta película es tan palpable que en lo personal hasta me estresó un poco por todas las cosas que ocurrían, pero al mismo tiempo me mantenía pegado a la pantalla y es que, en todo momento en mi mente se repetía que lo que estaba viendo está basado en una historia real y no sé ustedes, pero cuando son películas así siempre me intriga más saber lo que sucederá con los protagonistas, me sucedió lo mismo con “La sociedad de la nieve” y creo que la razón de esto es porque siempre habrá algo en tu mente diciendo “esto realmente le sucedió a una persona” y solo le agrega cierta sensación de adrenalina a la película.

Los actores que interpretaban a los protagonistas hicieron un excelente trabajo, pero quiero darle una mención honorífica al personaje de Lucas quien fue interpretado por nada más y nada menos que un pequeño Tom Holland, en esta película se puede apreciar las dotes actorales que ya presentaba desde pequeño, por lo que considero que su actuación a partir de cierto punto de la película es donde realmente te permite sentirte dentro de la historia, por lo que podríamos decir que gran parte del éxito de la película depende lo bien que lo hizo Tom Hollando, claramente sin des meritar a los otros actores quienes hicieron un gran trabajo.
La película en términos generales es muy buena, considero que tiene muchos aspectos importantes, como lo fueron los efectos especiales, si somos conscientes del cómo eran las películas en el 2012 algunos efectos especiales no eran tan bien trabajados como en las películas actuales, pero en esta, sin embargo, me parecen de lo más convincente que incluso en muchas ocasiones me quedé pensando en cómo realizaron esas escenas y esto solo habla bien de todo el trabajo tanto dentro como fuera de la película, se ve que realmente querían contar una historia que llamase la atención y lo lograron, porque obtuvieron muchas nominaciones de diferentes categorías y fueron ganadores también de otras varias.

Finalizo diciendo que es una película que recomiendo totalmente, me parece que mantiene ciertos mensajes interesantes y como vengo recalcando en toda la reseña, es una película basada en la historia real, por lo que, si o si deberían darle una oportunidad, por lo que, si no la han visto todavía, pueden sumarla a su lista y para aquellos que ya la vieron cuéntenme qué tal les pareció en los comentarios estaré encantado de leerles. I rewatched this movie a few weeks ago. It's heartbreaking and that also reminds me that Tom Holland was already a child actor and was already talented too.
The whole sequence from the arrival of the tsunami until they reach safety is certainly hard enough to think what it must have been like to live through. I completely agree with Tom Holland's comment, I could tell he was destined for great things.
Esta película me estresó mucho cuando la vi. Prefiero ver de otro género y ésta para dejarlas en momentos cuando busco inspiración de vida o algo por el estilo. Si fue buena pero como dije, este tipo de películas prefiero verlas una sola vez.
Fue horrible lo que vivió esa familia y lo más raro es lo que ocurrió después. Un caso en 1 millón de que sucediera eso, si no me dicen que es basada en hechos reales, hubiera dicho que es ficción.. pero bueh.. me alegra q te haya gustado
Entiendo perfectamente el motivo del estrés, yo también lo pasé así en ciertos momentos, pero en lo personal por eso me gustó tanto, siento que la película hace lo necesario para que termines experimentando diferentes emociones con ella.
Sin dudas lo que vivieron es justo como lo mencionas, si no se supiese que está basada en hechos reales parece increíble que realmente sucediera algo así.
