Dune: Part Two - Movie Review [EN -ES]

In 2021, when "Dune" by Denis Villeneuve was released, I never expected to see the subtitle "Part One"; this made me worry because that film was released simultaneously in theaters and on the streaming service formerly called HBO Max; in spite of that, Dune raised good money for that post-pandemic era and that pleasant news arrived where the green light was given to the realization of the second part; this was a news that gave me satisfaction because I was waiting for the return to that desert world to conclude a fragment of this story about power, revenge, betrayal and love.

En el 2021, cuando se estrenó "Dune" de Denis Villeneuve, nunca espere ver el subtítulo "Part One"; esto me creó preocupación porque ese film se estrenó simultáneamente en las salas de cine y en el servicio de streaming anteriormente llamado HBO Max; a pesar de eso, Dune recaudó buen dinero para esa época pospandemia y llegó esa grata noticia en dónde se dio luz verde a la realización de la segunda parte; está fue una noticia que me dio satisfacción porque esperaba el regreso a ese mundo desértico para concluir un fragmento de esta historia sobre el poder, la venganza, la traición y el amor.

"Dune: Part Two", is a direct continuation of all the events that happened in the previous film; both "Paul" and his mother, will have to enter the world of the "Fremen", in their customs, their way of speaking, of believing, of fighting and precisely the latter will be what will create a connection between Paul and his new family, since from the war between the Fremen and the "Harkonnen" for a fraction will become increasingly stronger the prophecy of the Messiah of the Other World, "Lisan al Gaib"; a prophecy that Paul will accept in name to free the Fremen, but the reality may be that it is only a way for revenge.

"Dune: Part Two", es una continuación directa de todos los acontecimientos que sucedieron en el anterior film; tanto "Paul" como su madre, deberán adentrarse en el mundo de los "Fremen", en sus costumbres, su manera de hablar, de creer, de pelear y justamente eso último será lo que creará una conexión entre Paul y su nueva familia, ya que de la guerra entre los Fremen y los "Harkonnen" para una fracción se hará cada vez más evidente la profecía del Mesías del Otro Mundo, "Lisan al Gaib"; una profecía que Paul aceptará en nombre para liberar a los Fremen, pero la realidad puede ser que solo sea una vía para la venganza.

There is no doubt that Denis Villeneuve has an excellent vision to show different places or worlds where a story develops; Just as it happened in the previous film, this time, even for a short time, we see the differences between each of the houses of the families that are part of this story, which the presence or absence of nature is an important factor, precisely in what can be considered boring or monotonous of "Arrakis" for being a desert world, it is the work of Villeneuve what highlights each scene, whether walking through the sand, riding a sandworm or an exciting battle; visually this film is a genius.

The screenplay written by Denis himself, along with Jon Spaihts, tells the story of how the pressure to portray an image can change a person, love, certain ideals and so on must change when the weight of portraying revenge or being a prophetic image will be enough to change Paul's life completely, but I think the real and only motivating factor of what happens in this second part is the Power, I mean the ambition, the control of a story, to be considered as a savior, someone unique who decides over the lives of others, someone who can be seen as a God; that is what I think is the story of this second part and what I liked the most because I can relate it to real life events, since many call themselves saviors, perform acts that can be considered heroic and in the end they can be as nefarious as the villains they decide to face, all for succumbing to the use or misuse of power; that is wonderful in this film.

No hay duda que Denis Villeneuve tiene una excelente visión para enseñar diferentes lugares o mundos en dónde se desarrolle una historia; así como sucedió en el anterior film, en esta oportunidad así sea por un tiempo breve, vemos la diferencias entre cada una de las casas de las familias que son parte de esta historia, lo cual la presencia o ausencia de la naturaleza es un factor importante, justamente en lo que puede considerarse aburrido o monótono de "Arrakis" por ser un mundo desértico, es el trabajo de Villeneuve lo que resalta cada escena, sea al momento de caminar por la arena, montar a un gusano de arena o de una emocionante batalla; visualmente este film es una genialidad.

El guion escrito por el mismo Denis, junto a Jon Spaihts, relata en como la presión por representar una imagen puede cambiar a una persona, el amor, ciertos ideales y demás deben cambiar cuando el peso de representar una venganza o ser una imagen profética será lo suficiente para que la vida de Paul cambie por completo, pero creo que el verdadero y único factor motivante de lo que sucede en esta segunda parte es el Poder, me refiero a la ambición, el control de un relato, el ser considerado como un salvador, alguien único que decide sobre la vida de otros, alguien que puede ser visto como un Dios; eso es lo que pienso que es la historia de esta segunda parte y lo que más me ha gustado porque puedo relacionarlo a hechos de la vida real, ya que muchos se hacen llamar salvadores, realizan actos que pueden considerarse como heroicos y al final pueden ser tan nefastos como los villanos a quienes deciden enfrentar, todo por sucumbir al uso o mal uso del poder; eso es maravilloso en este film.

The performances are correct, personally I liked more the work done by Timothée Chalamet in the previous film although in this second part, especially in the third and final act, we can see a certain improvement in his performance when his character, "Paul Atreides", accepts his fate although at certain times I would have liked him to have a more imposing attitude, but I think his appearance, because of his youth, makes it acceptable for his character to behave in certain ways; regarding Zendaya that in this opportunity her character, "Chani", has more prominence, I think she is the voice of reason, a voice or opinion that is buried by the desires of others and the one she loves; Zendaya is very expressive and that is very important in many of the final scenes; there is no doubt that she is one of the positive points of the film.

Las actuaciones son correctas, personalmente me gustó más el trabajo que realizó Timothée Chalamet en el anterior film aunque en esta segunda parte, más que nada en el tercer y acto final, podemos observar una cierta mejoría en su actuación cuando su personaje, "Paul Atreides", acepta su destino aunque en ciertos momentos me hubiera gustado que tuviera una actitud más imponente, pero creo que su aspecto, por su juventud se hace aceptable que su personaje se comporte de ciertas maneras; con respecto a Zendaya que en esta oportunidad su personaje, "Chani", tiene más protagonismo, creo que ella es la voz de la razón, una voz u opinión que se ve enterrada por los deseos de otros y de quien ama; Zendaya es muy expresiva y eso es muy importante en muchas de las escenas finales; no hay duda que es de los puntos positivos del film.

Dune: Part Two is a complete genius, its 2 hours and 45 minutes long is divided in a first and necessary act that exposes the actuality of the main characters and the introduction of the new ones, as well as delving into the plot of manipulation and use of power; after that, the development of the story becomes much better and even fast which surprises me because you do not expect, or want to reach a denouement in the story, I think that Denis Villeneuve also demonstrates power in the story manipulating the viewer to engage with the film and then be wanting to see more, this is very important because it shows a good job by him and others involved in the project; this is one of the best films I've seen this year and I hope to see again.

Dune: Part Two es una completa genialidad, su 2 horas y 45 minutos de duración se divide en un primer y necesario acto que expone la actualidad de los protagonistas y la introducción de los nuevos, así como profundizar en la trama de manipulación y uso del poder; después de eso, el desarrollo de la historia se hace mucho mejor y hasta rápido lo cual me sorprende porque no esperas, ni quieres que llegue un desenlace en la historia, creo que Denis Villeneuve también demuestra poder en el relato manipulando al espectador a comprometerse con el film para después quedar deseando ver más, esto es muy importante porque demuestra un buen trabajó por parte de él y demás involucrados en el proyecto; este es uno de los mejores films que he visto en este año y espero nuevamente volver a ver.
