Killers of the Flower Moon - Movie Review [EN - ES]

"A Western, Crime and Drama movie walks into a Bar..." Possibly, this is the introduction of some joke, but the reality is that these are the genres that make up one of the best films released last year and that competes for the big film awards with such confidence that if by surprise it is chosen as the big winner of an awards night, I am convinced that no one would say any complaints for the wonderful film production directed and CO-written by Martin Scorsese.

"Una película Western, Crimen y Drama entra en un Bar..." Posiblemente, esto sea la introducción de algún chiste, pero la realidad es que son los géneros que conforman a uno de los mejores films estrenados el pasado año y que compite por los grandes premios al cine con tan confianza que si por sorpresa es elegida como la gran vencedora de una noche de premios, estoy convencido de que nadie diría ninguna queja por la maravillosa producción cinematográfica dirigida y CO-escrita por Martin Scorsese.

"Killers of the Flower Moon" is a film that narrates the series of murders of members of the "Osage" tribe that occurred in Oklahoma in 1920; this story focuses on a series of Osage women, a mother and her daughters, victims of the ambition and cruelty of a group of white men who wanted to obtain the wealth obtained from the oil that flowed from their lands and by laws imposed by the U.S. government, was the door to devise a criminal plan where manipulation was the main weapon.

"Killers of the Flower Moon", es un film que narra la serie de asesinatos de miembros de la tribu "Osage" ocurridos en Oklahoma en 1920; está historia se enfoca en una serie de mujeres Osage, una madre y sus hijas, víctimas de la ambición y crueldad de un grupo de hombres blancos que querían obtener las riquezas obtenidas por el petróleo que brotó de sus tierras y por leyes impuestas por el gobierno de los Estados Unidos, fue la puerta a idear un plan criminal en dónde la manipulación fue la principal arma.

Every time it is mandatory to enjoy the current work of directors like Steven Spielberg and in this case, Martin Scorsese, who once again offers the world of cinema a high level production; visually "Killers of the Flower Moon" is a genius, from its first scenes where a danger is predicted and at the same time a tribe is blessed with a great prize; It is precisely those scenes where we observe the beauty of a place that hides a vile and I can even say demonic plan and Scorsese from his camera offers us an image of the west which is not so necessary to populate a place with the typical image of the cowboy, but to show what is a lawless people and with many ways to die.

The screenplay written by Scorsese and Eric Roth, is based on the book written by the American journalist David Grann; this story of real facts is the great demonstration that not every inherited benefit will bring full joy; this story shows a generational struggle, I mean how a young part of a family can demonstrate irresponsibility, naivety and give power to those who least deserve it; precisely these elements are what gives way to a vile plan devised from greed; what is demonstrated in this story is the degree of manipulation and injustice caused and arranged by the use or importance of money, that great factor is the reason for everything we see in this film that in my opinion presents a high level in its narrative because as we can hear in one of the dialogues, at certain times we can not recognize which are the wolves, although it is something brief because from the second hour onwards, this story takes a high level of injustice and crime.

Cada vez se hace obligatorio disfrutar del actual trabajo que realiza directores como Steven Spielberg y en este caso, Martin Scorsese, quien nuevamente ofrece al mundo del cine una producción de alto nivel; visualmente "Killers of the Flower Moon" es una genialidad, desde sus primeras escenas en donde se vaticina un peligro y a la vez se bendice a una tribu con un gran premio; justamente son esas escenas en dónde observamos lo hermoso de un lugar que esconde un plan vil y hasta puedo decir demoníaco y Scorsese desde su cámara nos ofrece una imagen del oeste el cual no es tan necesario el poblar un lugar con la típica imagen del vaquero, pero sí demostrar lo que es un pueblo sin ley y con muchas maneras de morir.

El guion escrito por Scorsese y Eric Roth, es basado en el libro escrito por el periodista norteamericano David Grann; está historia de hechos reales es la gran demostración de que no todo beneficio heredado traerá una plena alegría; está historia demuestra una lucha generacional, me refiero a como un parte joven de una familia podrá demostrar irresponsabilidad, ingenuidad y brindar poder a quien menos lo merece; justamente estos elementos son lo que da paso a un vil plan ideado desde la avaricia; lo demostrado en esta historia es el grado de manipulación e injusticia causado y arreglado por el uso o importancia del dinero, ese gran factor es el motivo de todo lo que vemos en este film que en mi opinión presenta un alto nivel en su narrativa porque así como podemos escuchar en uno de los diálogos, en ciertos momentos no podemos reconocer cuáles son los lobos, aunque es algo breve porque desde la segunda hora en adelante, está historia toma un alto nivel de injusticia y crimen.

The performances are among the best of the year, having actors of the category of Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, makes this production has a high level, but before referring to the work of both, I must talk about one of the factors that motivated me to see this film and is the performance of Lily Gladstone, who plays "Mollie Burkhart"; her performance is the calm in this film, she is a woman with responsibility and possibly because of her illness she feels and looks like someone lonely, that is played very well by Lily, since the attitude of her character, how strong her voice is and how serene, makes her distant, but at the moment of falling in love she changes her countenance and surrenders to what her husband offers, which is a home and children, a dangerous arrangement that makes her a perfect victim; possibly the work of this actress is seen as brief or with little relevance, but the truth is that this story is told from her point of view, from her love story, her concern for her tribe, the suffering of the loss of her family, her illness and as I said, a perfect victim. The work of DiCaprio and De Niro_ is perfect, the character of "Ernest Burkhart", played by Leonardo, is just another victim, he is a man who proclaims himself as strong and intelligent and he is nothing of the sort, he is someone manipulable, cowardly, he is detestable and I repeat, this is because of the great work of DiCaprio; regarding Robert, I can only say before seeing his performance as "William King Hale", I considered only one character in a film as "The Devil", but seeing this film, I am convinced that "King" was the devil; what a great and impressive job, he is one of the best villains I have seen in the last years.

Las actuaciones son de lo mejor del año, contar con actores de la categoría de Leonardo DiCaprio y Robert De Niro, hace que está producción tenga un alto nivel, pero antes de referirme al trabajo de ambos, debo hablar de uno de los factores que me motivó a ver este film y es la actuación de Lily Gladstone, quien interpreta a "Mollie Burkhart"; su actuación es la calma en este film, ella es una mujer con responsabilidad y posiblemente por su enfermedad se siente y se ve como alguien solitario, eso lo interpreta muy bien Lily, ya que la actitud de su personaje, lo fuerte de su voz y lo serena, hace que sea distante, pero al momento de enamorarse cambia su semblante y se rinde a lo que ofrece su esposo, lo cual es un hogar e hijos, un peligroso arreglo que la convierte en una perfecta víctima; posiblemente el trabajo de esta actriz se note como breve o con poca relevancia, pero la verdad es que está historia está relatada desde su punto de vista, desde su historia de amor, su preocupación por su tribu, el sufrimiento de la perdida de su familia, su enfermedad y como dije, una perfecta víctima. El trabajo de DiCaprio y De Niro_ es perfecto, el personaje de "Ernest Burkhart", interpretado por Leonardo, es otra víctima más, es un hombre que se autoproclama como fuerte e inteligente y no es nada de eso, es alguien manipulable, cobarde, es detestable y repito, esto es por el gran trabajo del DiCaprio; con respecto a Robert, solo puedo decir antes de ver su actuación como "William King Hale", consideraba a un solo personaje de un film como "El Diablo", pero al ver este film, estoy convencido de que "King" fue el diablo; que gran e impresionante trabajo, es uno de los mejores villanos que he visto en los últimos años.

Although I know that Killers of the Flower Moon will not win the Academy Award for Best Picture; I think that does not prevent it from being considered as one or maybe the best film of the past year; this is a complete film, I mean that every line, both in script, acting and of course, in direction, highlights its high level; although this story is about ambition, betrayal, manipulation and crime; I think it also explores the theme of the "Power of Money"; what motivates to make money in any way, whether to do good or evil, no matter what kind, is on one side or the other, there is no in between and just that makes you see that first, there is a value of merit with respect to skin color and another that just what is described above is overshadowed by the color of money, a factor that is above all. This is a great film which may be slow in its first hour for not only giving introduction to the elements that will be developed in the course of the film, but it tries to play with the intelligence of the viewer, nothing difficult, but it makes you doubt who represents good and evil, but when everything is present, the story takes a surprising pace, gripping that makes you think how fast he spent the remaining two hours and thirty minutes; that is why if you have not seen this film, do not pay attention to the duration time because this film is the best.

Aunque sé que Killers of the Flower Moon no ganará el Premio a la Academia como Mejor Película; creo que eso no evita considerarla como una o tal vez la mejor película del pasado año; este es un film completo, me refiero a que cada renglón, tanto en guion, actuación y por supuesto, en la dirección, destaca su alto nivel; a pesar de que está historia es sobre ambición, traición, manipulación y crímenes; creo que también explora el tema referente al "Poder del Dinero"; lo que motiva a realizar el obtener dinero de cualquier manera, sea para hacer el bien o para hacer el mal, no importa de que tipo, es de un bando o el otro, no existe un intermedio y justamente eso hace ver qué primero, existe un valor de merecimiento con respecto al color de piel y otro que justamente lo antes descrito lo opaca el color del dinero, un factor que está por encima de todos. Este es un gran film el cual posiblemente se haga lento su primera hora por no solamente dar introducción a los elementos que se irán desarrollando en el transcurso del film, sino que trata de jugar con la inteligencia del espectador, nada difícil, pero si te hace dudar quien representa el bien y el mal, pero cuando todo está presente, la historia toma un ritmo sorprendente, atrapante que te hace pensar que tan rápido pasó las dos horas y treinta minutos restantes; es por eso que si no han visto este film, no le presenten atención al tiempo de duración porque esta película es de los mejor.
