Siempre he pensado en lo arriesgado en realizar un remake o reboot de alguna película o franquicia que fue exitosa en su momento; un ejemplo de realizar primeramente un remake para después hacer un reboot sucede con la franquicia de “The Planeta of the Apes” la cual después de cinco films entre finales de los 60’ y mediados de los 70’, se realizó un remake en el 2000, que no fue un éxito de taquilla y que llevó a comenzar un reboot lo cual fue la mejor idea posible y que sumo a esta historia una trilogía perfecta, pero justamente lo exitoso de esa nueva etapa propicia a que se tome un nuevo riesgo el cual es dar continuidad a una historia que todavía tiene potencial por desarrollar.

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” es la novena película dentro de esta extensa franquicia y a la vez secuela de la trilogía dirigida primeramente por Rupert Wyatt y después por Matt Reeves desde el 2011 al 2017; esta nueva historia se desarrolla 300 años después del liderazgo de Caesar y en donde el mundo se ha convertido en una extensa selva habitada por diferentes clanes de simios quienes siguiendo ciertas leyes parecieran vivir en armonía; eso es lo que muestra "Noa", un chimpancé perteneciente al clan que entrena a halcones junto a su padre y líder del clan pacífico que en una noche son atacados, secuestrados por un poderoso clan liderados por “Proximus Caesar” quien cree tener la misión de crear un reino en donde su palabra es la única ley; todo lo sucedido en ese pacífico clan y su destrucción hará que Noa comience un camino hacia la salvación de su familia y amigos lo cual le hará generar alianzas inesperadas en dónde la confianza será vital para detener a un falso reino.

Para esta nueva etapa de la franquicia se contó con la dirección de Wes Ball quien anteriormente dirigió la trilogía cinematográfica de “Maze Runner”, en mi opinión fue una gran decisión porque Ball sabe dirigir a personajes jóvenes adentrándose en un mundo nuevo lleno de aventuras y peligro; está es un “Coming of Age” dentro de esta gran historia y era necesario que se contará con este director que sabe justamente enfocar la curiosidad, inexperiencia y crecimiento de los personajes. Visualmente, este film es magnífico, el uso del CGI es formidable con respecto a la presencia de cada simio, así como las escenas en dónde se desarrolla la historia, cada toma en exteriores es impresionante, sea en una escena de aventura, acción o hasta una en dónde ocurre algún tipo de conversación entre sus protagonistas, creo que contar con este joven o todavía nuevo director fue un gran acierto.

El guion fue escrito por Josh Friedman quien de ser creador, productor y escritor de series televisivas como “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", entre muchas otras, actualmente tiene una carrera muy activa no solamente por ser el guionista de este nuevo film de El Planeta de los Simios, sino por ser escritor de films como “Avatar: The Way of Water” y de la próxima secuela, así como tambien ser guionista en "The Fantastic Four: First Steps»; en esta nueva historia existe temas como es el olvido del pasado, el mal uso de un relato o mejor dicho, de la verdad lo cual conlleva la imposición de la mentira como arma para controlar a masas y por supuesto generar división; este tema se presenta en dos puntos de vista el cual está más desarrollado en los simios porque esta historia es relatada desde el punto de vista de Noa; existen otros temas de cierta importancia lo cual seguramente serán desarrollados en una próxima secuela y en dónde estoy seguro se hará una necesaria referencia a la evolución de las especies y un nuevo conflicto a enfrentar.

The script was written by Josh Friedman who from being creator, producer and writer of TV series like "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", among many others, currently has a very active career not only for being the screenwriter of this new Planet of the Apes film, but for being a writer of films like "Avatar: The Way of Water" and the upcoming sequel, as well as being a screenwriter in "The Fantastic Four: First Steps"; in this new story there are themes such as forgetting the past, the misuse of a story or rather, of the truth which leads to the imposition of lies as a weapon to control the masses and of course generate division; this theme is presented in two points of view which is more developed in the apes because this story is told from the point of view of Noa; there are other issues of some importance which will surely be developed in an upcoming sequel and where I am sure there will be a necessary reference to the evolution of the species and a new conflict to face.

No hay duda que el trabajo del CGI en esta serie de películas que son parte del reboot son excelentes, no perfectas, pero si son de lo mejor, al igual que el trabajo y compromiso que realizan los actores que deben dar vida a los simios en este film; puedo decir que la actuación de Owen Teague como "Noa" es buena, me gustó como es un personaje que tiene el potencial para ser líder, aunque el miedo al fracaso y al prejuicio siempre está presente, pero lo que va logrando mientras transcurre la historia hace que su personaje vaya creciendo; otro personaje que me gustó es el de “Raka” interpretado por Peter Macon, es la voz de la razón, es el personaje centrado a pesar de cierto fanatismo; en momentos me hizo recordar (respetando las distancias) a personajes como “Obi-Wan Kenobi” y “Morfeo”; aparte de los simios, el personaje humano interpretado por Freya Allan, solo diré (por no hacer spoilers) que es un personaje con mucho potencial y me alegra la historia que brevemente muestran de ella; con respecto a los demás, creo que hubo una pequeña decepción porque son personajes con cierta relevancia y espero que quienes sean los próximos villanos, sean mejor desarrollados.

Nunca pensé que Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes fuera un entretenido coming of age; este film usa el famoso elemento de “El Viaje del Héroe” y nos presenta dos puntos de vista en lo que posiblemente sean los protagonistas de esta nueva trilogía de filmes y me agrada que está secuela consiguió un correcto éxito en la taquilla porque es un buen film, es una buena continuación y por supuesto, un buen comienzo con mucho potencial a desarrollar, más que nada con lo referente a la obtención del conocimiento y a la necesaria evolución para poder sobrevivir, un tema importante en esta franquicia. Si por casualidad no han visto ninguno de los tres filmes anteriores, no queda más que invitarlos a ver esta nueva versión de El Planeta de los Simios, en lo que por ahora lo conforman cuatro películas.

I never thought that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes would be an entertaining coming of age; this film uses the famous element of "The Hero's Journey" and presents us with two points of view in what will possibly be the protagonists of this new trilogy of films and I am pleased that this sequel achieved a correct success at the box office because it is a good film, it is a good continuation and of course, a good start with a lot of potential to develop, especially with regard to obtaining knowledge and the necessary evolution in order to survive, an important theme in this franchise.
