Road House (2024) - Movie Review [EN - ES]

I have always considered that originality in cinema is something difficult to achieve; the success of a film will depend on important factors such as the telling of the story, the interpretation of the characters and of course the direction, possibly you can not meet all these factors, but you can make an effort to do a great job and have recognition; Now there is a way to be less original in the world of cinema and that is to make "Remakes", productions that are mostly unnecessary, but for those who produce them that is the least important, because in my opinion, what they are looking for is to generate money and be lucky to be a success to start a franchise (another fashion); precisely these characteristics are those that define the film I am reviewing, a remake of an action film of the 80's that was starring an iconic actor of that time.

Siempre he considerado que la originalidad en el cine es algo difícil de conseguir; el éxito de una película dependerá de importantes factores como son el relato de la historia, la interpretación de los personajes y por supuesto de la dirección, posiblemente no se puede cumplir todos esos factores, pero sí se puede realizar un esfuerzo en hacer un gran trabajo y tener reconocimiento; ahora existe una manera de ser menos original en el mundo del cine y esa es realizando "Remakes", producciones que mayormente son innecesarias, pero para quien las produce eso es lo menos importante, ya que en mi opinión, lo que se busca es generar dinero y tener la suerte de sea un éxito para comenzar una franquicia (otra moda más); justamente esas características son las que definen la película a la que hago reseña, un remake de un film de acción de los 80' que fue protagonizado por un ícono actor de esa época.

"Road House" (2024), tells the story of "Dalton", a man who has a miserable, lonely life, tormented by the past, but is also someone who lives by the legend of his skill and violence in the world of fights; precisely that fame is what attracts "Frankie" who is the owner of a bar called "The Road House" which is in the Florida Keys; She needs Dalton's help to bring control to the chaotic business she owns, which is a place full of disrespectful, nasty and violent people, but there is one more danger, something worse, someone who will push Dalton beyond his limits showing a face that was hidden for a long time.

"Road House" (2024), relata la historia de "Dalton", un hombre que tiene una vida miserable, solitaria, atormentado por el pasado, pero también es alguien que vive de la leyenda en su destreza y violencia en lo que es el mundo de las peleas; justamente esa fama es lo que atrae a "Frankie" quien es la dueña de un bar llamado "The Road House" el cual queda en los cayos de Florida; ella necesita la ayuda de Dalton para traer control al caótico negocio que ella posee, el cual es un lugar lleno de irrespetuosas, desagradables y violentas personas, pero existe un peligro más, algo peor, alguien que empujará a Dalton más allá de sus límites mostrando un rostro que estuvo escondido por mucho tiempo.

This film was directed by Doug Liman who has been very linked to the action genre; I can name some of his works like "Jumper", "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", "The Bourne Identity" and "Edge of Tomorrow"; the last two films were a complete success, but in general I can point out that this director makes good action sequences and if there is something that I must highlight in his new film is just that. One of the factors that worked very well in this remake was the fight sequences; Liman puts you in a privileged position in each of the fights, I mean you can accompany the path of some blow or have the perspective of the aggressor or the assaulted; each of those factors I liked a lot.

The script written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry; my opinion is that it is not a good script, it has more negative points than positive and that's exactly why I first start with what I liked; I think the way of writing this version of "Dalton" who is haunted by his past is good; the other thing I liked was the use of the "meta" factor in recognizing the influence of the western in this story; these characteristics with more importance in the first and part of the second act are necessary for the development of the story, which just as the story progresses, it declines because of the bad writing and interpretation of each one of the characters; the base story or what motivates its development, becomes boring, it is not interesting, it is repetitive and could have been better despite its lack of originality; I regret that a story with potential for more could not be better developed in the last two acts.

Este film fue dirigido por Doug Liman quien ha estado muy ligado con lo que es el género de la acción; puedo nombrar algunos de sus trabajos como "Jumper", "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", "The Bourne Identity" y "Edge of Tomorrow"; las últimas dos películas fueron un completo éxito, pero en general puedo señalar que este director realiza buenas secuencias de acción y si hay algo que debo resaltar en su nuevo film es justamente eso. Uno de los factores que funcionó muy bien en este remake fue las secuencias de las peleas; Liman te pone en una posición privilegiada en cada una de las peleas, me refiero a que puedes acompañar el trayecto de algún golpe o tener la perspectiva del agresor o el agredido; cada uno de esos factores me gustó mucho.

El guion escrito por Anthony Bagarozzi y Chuck Mondry; mi opinión es que no es un buen guion, tiene más puntos negativos que positivos y justamente por eso primeramente comienzo con lo que me ha gustado; me parece bien la manera de escribir esta versión de "Dalton" el cual es perseguido por su pasado; lo otro que me gustó fue el uso del factor "meta" en reconocer la influencia del western en esta historia; estas características con mayor importancia en el primer y parte del segundo acto son necesarias para el desarrollo de la historia, lo cual al justamente avanzar decae por lo mal que están escritos e interpretado cada uno de los personajes; la historia base o lo que motiva su desarrollo, se hace aburrido, no es interesante, es repetitivo y pudo ser mejor a pesar de su nula originalidad; lamento que no se pueda dar un mejor desarrollo en los dos últimos actos a una historia con potencial para más.

The performances are not good; I respect the commitment of Jake Gyllenhaal in the physical aspect and the committed in the fight scenes, I really liked the fighting style of "Dalton" where boxing, wrestling and jiu-jitsu is very evident, to that, I add that his interpretation of this character I liked because the past, what has given him fame, is what most torments him and makes him a loner, someone who knows he attracts and can cause many problems, personally I consider one of the positive points; now regarding the others; what a group of bad actors, no emotion, no commitment, all characters badly written and badly acted; I can release from that list Conor McGregor who makes his debut as an actor and I think he plays himself, his work is better because the fight scenes of course he gives a great performance.

Las actuaciones no son buenas; respeto el compromiso de Jake Gyllenhaal en el aspecto físico y lo comprometido en las escenas de las peleas, me gusto mucho el estilo de pelea de "Dalton" en donde el boxeo, lucha y jiu-jitsu es muy evidente, a eso, sumo que su interpretación de este personaje me gustó porque el pasado, lo que le ha dado fama, es lo que más le atormenta y lo convierte en un solitario, en alguien que sabe que atrae y puede causar muchos problemas, personalmente considero uno de los puntos positivos; ahora con respecto a los demás; qué grupo de malos actores, no hay emoción, ni compromiso, todos los personajes mal escritos y mal actuados; puedo liberar de esa lista a Conor McGregor quien hace su debut como actor y creo que hace de sí mismo, su trabajo es mejor porque las escenas de pelea por supuesto que hace una gran actuación.

The film "Road House" released in 1989 and starring Patrick Swayze**_, is the typical film of the 80's, film with a lot of testosterone, many fights, characters with attitude and very beautiful women; in my opinion it is a classic of that time which I could enjoy again before watching this new version which enters in that list of "Unnecessary Films"; now, with this I do not mean that I did not enjoy this new film, on the contrary, I was very entertained and although I recognize that it has many flaws, in script writing and performances, I must highlight the good fight scenes, it is the best of the film as well as certain other elements that can work as a basis for a future sequel; this is rare in me because I do not like when a film is thought to become a franchise and that subtracts in narrative, but this time you notice the potential to become a story of redemption, we will have to wait if they decide to make one more film.

El film "Road House" estrenado en 1989 y protagonizado por Patrick Swayze, es el típico film de los 80', película con mucha testosterona, muchas peleas, personajes con actitud y mujeres muy hermosas; en mi opinión es un clásico de esa época el cual pude volver a disfrutar antes de ver esta nueva versión la cual entra en esa lista de "Películas Innecesarias"; ahora, con esto no quiero decir que no haya disfrutado de este nuevo film, al contrario, me entretuvo mucho y aunque reconozco que tiene muchos fallos, en escritura del guion y en las actuaciones, debo destacar las buenas escenas de peleas, es lo mejor del film así como otros ciertos elementos que pueden funcionar de base para una futura secuela; esto es raro en mí porque no me gusta cuando con un film se piensa en convertirse en una franquicia y eso resta en narrativa, pero en esta oportunidad se nota el potencial para convertirse en una historia de redención, habrá que esperar si deciden hacer un film más.
