Shin Godzilla - Movie Review [ES - EN]

Hace días decidí ver películas protagonizadas por el Rey de los Kaiju, el gran y mítico "Godzilla"; la primera de una tríada de films fue la reciente estrenada del Monsterverse la cual considero la versión más popular del gigantesco personaje y deje para el final, las últimas dos producciones realizadas en el país de origen ese monstruo y la cual es su víctima predilecta; en esta oportunidad hago reseña al film estrenado en el 2016 y que hace homenaje al Genuino Rey de los Monstruos.

"Shin Godzilla" film del estrenado hace 8 años, dio comienzo a una serie de producciones que funcionaron como un revival de ese personaje, pero no solo eso, ya que los directores y guionistas, Hideaki Anno y Shinji Higuchi, con este film comenzaron una trilogía la cual es conocida como "tokusatsu series", la cual se complementa con "Shin Ultraman" (2022) y "Shin Kamen Rider" (2023). En lo que fue la trigésima primera película de esta franquicia, veremos un reboot de esta magnífica historia de lo que parece ser una lucha imposible de ganar para la humanidad y es que en un día tranquilo en una de las bahías de Japón, un evento extraño aparece, una extraña y gigantesca criatura a apariencia generando un completo caos, eso hace que las autoridades japonesas deban accionar para salvar a su país y evitar otra destrucción, pero es imposible cuando esa criatura que recibe el nombre de "Godzilla", va evolucionando, lo cual la hace más poderosa, eso crea una carrera contra el reloj en donde Japón se ve amenazada por un gigantesco y radiactivo monstruo y naciones que harán lo imposible para detenerla.

In what was the thirty-first film of this franchise, we will see a reboot of this magnificent story of what seems to be an unwinnable struggle for mankind and is that on a quiet day in one of the bays of Japan, a strange event appears, a strange and gigantic creature to appearance generating complete chaos, That makes the Japanese authorities must act to save their country and avoid another destruction, but it is impossible when this creature that receives the name of "Godzilla", is evolving, which makes it more powerful, that creates a race against the clock where Japan is threatened by a gigantic and radioactive monster and nations that will do the impossible to stop it.

No me considero un fan de las películas de Godzilla realizadas en Japón a causa del diseño del personaje, en realidad no soy fan de este tipo de producciones, solamente de la serie original de Ultraman y es por eso que Shin Ultraman, fue el primer film que vi dirigido y escrito por Anno e Higuchi, pero al leer las buenas críticas que obtuvo Shin Godzilla, me impulsó a por fin ver esta excelente película. Es cierto que el diseño original de este personaje influye mucho al que hace apariencia en esta película, pero los cambios realizados son más que excelentes, en mi opinión es terrorífico ver sus ojos, hay una noción de descubrir algo nuevo y por la criatura que es no tiene noción a lo que hace y solo reacciona a lo que ocurre a su alrededor; eso me gustó porque no es un protector o un destructor, es una criatura que nace, crece, evoluciona y arrasa con todo; creo que Anno como guionista, uso a esta criatura como una metáfora de la humanidad.

I don't consider myself a fan of the Godzilla movies made in Japan because of the design of the character, actually I am not a fan of this kind of productions, only of the original Ultraman series and that's why Shin Ultraman, was the first film I saw directed and written by Anno and Higuchi, but reading the good reviews that Shin Godzilla got, prompted me to finally see this excellent movie. It is true that the original design of this character influences a lot to the one that makes appearance in this movie, but the changes made are more than excellent, in my opinion it is terrifying to see his eyes, there is a notion of discovering something new and for the creature that he is he has no notion to what he does and only reacts to what happens around him; I liked that because it is not a protector or a destroyer, it is a creature that is born, grows, evolves and destroys everything; I think that Anno as a screenwriter, used this creature as a metaphor of humanity.

En esta película se deja muy atrás esas escenas en dónde se usa a edificaciones falsas, miniaturas para crear la destrucción que deja Godzilla por su paso; a pesar del diseño habitual, con cierta modernización que tiene Godzilla, es todo lo demás lo que hace que se tenga un mayor impacto en cada escena, en especial las que ocurren en el segundo acto en dónde se observa en todo su esplendor al gigantesco monstruo; esa escena completa es mi favorita porque usa el terror y todo lo que puede lograr el rey de los Kaiju; no hay duda que es un gran trabajo por Anno e Higuchi quienes se encargaron de la dirección y desde su experiencia en la realización de "Evangelion" pudieron llevar esas imágenes del famoso anime a la realidad, en mi opinión son todas las escenas son magníficas.

La historia es excelente, Godzilla como protagonista inicia o motiva una serie de acontecimientos que no se enfoca en un grupo de personajes comunes, sino en quienes deben liderar una nación y tomar decisiones en búsqueda de minimizar las bajas humanas, pero la burocracia, la política, los miedos y traumas hacen que la tensión crezca por los problemas serán más que las soluciones; esto no quiere decir que para el guionista exista la necesidad de hacer héroe al gobierno japonés y de otro país, todo lo contrario, muestra la ineficiencia, poca humildad, el mal uso de la información y la imposición de la antigüedad, justamente todas esas características en la historia hace que la participación de la parte humana sea interesante y necesaria para el enfrentamiento entre la humanidad y un monstruo.

This movie leaves far behind those scenes where they use fake buildings, miniatures to create the destruction that Godzilla leaves behind; despite the usual design, with some modernization that Godzilla has, it is everything else that makes a greater impact in each scene, especially those that occur in the second act where the giant monster is observed in all its splendor; that whole scene is my favorite because it uses terror and everything that the king of the Kaiju can achieve; there is no doubt that it is a great job by Anno and Higuchi who were in charge of the direction and from their experience in the realization of "Evangelion" were able to bring those images of the famous anime to reality, in my opinion are all the scenes are magnificent.

The story is excellent, Godzilla as the protagonist initiates or motivates a series of events that does not focus on a group of common characters, but in those who must lead a nation and make decisions in search of minimizing human casualties, but the bureaucracy, politics, fears and traumas make the tension grows by the problems will be more than solutions; this does not mean that for the scriptwriter there is a need to make the Japanese government and the government of another country heroes, on the contrary, it shows inefficiency, little humility, misuse of information and the imposition of antiquity, precisely all these characteristics in the story makes the participation of the human part interesting and necessary for the confrontation between humanity and a monster.

Shin Godzilla es una completa genialidad, es impresionante lo buena que es, es interesante como reparte protagonismo entre los personajes importantes, en especial en Godzilla que es en realidad un Dios destructor, pero también crea una buena historia en quienes deben resolver todas las situaciones creadas y es por eso que se me hace imposible no comparar con los films Hollywoodense de Godzilla en dónde su gran crítica negativa es el uso de los personajes humanos los cuales son molestos y en esta oportunidad no ocurre eso, son correctos, interesantes, proponen humor, tensión y entretenimiento. Recomiendo en un 100% este muy buen film y me hace crear grandes expectativas para cerrar esta trilogía de películas de Godzilla, cuando por fin logré ver "Godzilla Minus One".

Shin Godzilla is a complete genius, it is impressive how good it is, it is interesting how it distributes protagonism among the important characters, especially Godzilla who is really a destructive God, but it also creates a good story in those who must solve all the situations created and that is why it is impossible for me not to compare with the Hollywood Godzilla films where its great negative criticism is the use of human characters which are annoying and in this opportunity that does not happen, they are correct, interesting, propose humor, tension and entertainment. I recommend 100% this very good film and it makes me create great expectations to close this trilogy of Godzilla movies, when I finally get to see "Godzilla Minus One".
