Thanksgiving - Movie Review [ES - EN]

Posiblemente en algún momento, las festividades o costumbres americanas invadieron al mundo; celebraciones como por ejemplo Halloween son partes de la comercialización de muchos países en dónde los disfraces y demás características se ven en muchos establecimientos que tratan de captar a clientes; existen otras como "El Día de Dar Gracias" que personalmente veo que es imposible asimilar en otros países porque ¿Cómo vendes esa idea? Pero la celebración ultra comercial, como es "Black Friday", esa sí que es usada en todos lados; esto lo traigo a referencia porque este nuevo film de terror usa el tema de como una costumbre, una celebración, se ve opacada justamente por una nueva en dónde un día netamente comercial se hace tan importante, tan caótico que hasta podrás matar para ser parte de ello.

Possibly at some point, the festivities or customs of the United States, invaded the world; celebrations such as Halloween are part of the marketing of many countries where costumes and other features are seen in many establishments trying to attract customers; there are others such as "Thanksgiving" that I personally see that it is impossible to assimilate in other countries because how do you sell that idea? But the ultra commercial celebration, such as "Black Friday", is used everywhere; I bring this to reference because this new horror film uses the theme of how a custom, a celebration, is overshadowed by a new one where a purely commercial day becomes so important, so chaotic that you can even kill to be part of it.

"Thanksgiving" o "Black Friday" en otros países, es un film slasher que relata la historia de habitantes del poblado de Plymouth, Massachusetts; un lugar que un año atrás, en la temprana celebración del "Black Friday" una gran tragedia ocurrió cunado la supertienda "RighMart" decidió adelantar dicha celebración comercial en el mismo día de "Acción de Gracias", un año ha pasado y familiares y demás afectado por tan caótico, violento y traumático hecho, no entiende como se vuelva a realizar dicha celebración en esa misma tienda, pero no todo será igual, ya que asesinatos despiadados han comenzado a ocurrir y es que un asesino enmascarado acecha a un pueblo en dónde cualquiera deberá en su lista de Acción de Gracias deberá agradecer seguir con vida.

"Thanksgiving" or "Black Friday" in other countries, is a slasher film that tells the story of the inhabitants of the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts; a place that one year ago, in the early celebration of "Black Friday" a great tragedy occurred when the superstore "RighMart" decided to advance the commercial celebration on the same day of "Thanksgiving", a year has passed and family and others affected by such a chaotic, violent and traumatic event, They do not understand how this celebration will be held again in the same store, but not everything will be the same, since ruthless murders have begun to occur and a masked killer is stalking a town where anyone on your Thanksgiving list should be thankful to be alive.

Este film es basado en un trailer ficticio que se pudo observar en el film "Grindhouse" (2007), el tráiler fue dirigido por Eli Roth y ahora tuvo la posibilidad de dar una completa vida a dicha producción; como deben saber, este director está muy relacionado con lo que es el género del terror, siendo mi película favorita bajo su dirección, "Hostel" (2005). En este film posiblemente sea el slasher más directo que he visto en años, no hay necesidad en desarrollar extensas escenas de suspenso y si dar muertes gráficas que crean impacto en el espectador, justamente eso es lo que más me agradó del film, ya que tiene ese toque de los clásicos "B Movies" en dónde la sangre y mutilaciones están presentes, a eso, sumo las típicas escenas homenaje a otros slashers.

El guion escrito por Jeff Rendell, es bueno por el hecho de crear muchas víctimas, aunque eso posiblemente sea visto como algo negativo para este tipo de películas, pero creo que al ser tan directa, no importa cuántas víctimas aparezcan en escena; me agradó el tema con respecto a lo que es la celebración de Día de Gracias y de como es opacado por uno netamente comercial, lo cual es lo que genera el gran motivo de las muertes; no quiero que esto que acabo de decir se tome como spoiler, sino que lo que sucede en las primeras escenas del film, sea lo que de comienzo a todo lo que sucede en la historia.

This film is based on a fictional trailer that could be seen in the film "Grindhouse" (2007), the trailer was directed by Eli Roth and now he had the chance to give a full life to this production; as you may know, this director is closely related to the horror genre, being my favorite film under his direction, "Hostel" (2005). In this film is possibly the most direct slasher I've seen in years, there is no need to develop extensive scenes of suspense and if give graphic deaths that create impact on the viewer, just that is what I liked most about the film, as it has that touch of the classic "B Movies" where blood and mutilations are present, to that, I add the typical scenes tribute to other slashers.

The script written by Jeff Rendell, is good for the fact of creating many victims, although that is possibly seen as something negative for this type of film, but I think that being so direct, no matter how many victims appear on the scene; I liked the theme with respect to what is the celebration of Thanksgiving and how it is overshadowed by a purely commercial one, which is what generates the great reason for the deaths; I do not want this to be taken as a spoiler, but what happens in the first scenes of the film, is what starts everything that happens in the story.

No me voy a extenderme en el renglón de las actuaciones, solo quiero hacer referencia a sí los diferentes personajes cumplieron o no en su rol de víctimas y sospechosos; creo que está película existe algo muy marcado y justamente es eso; creo que ambos tipos de personajes hacen una representación correcta, al ser molesto en el rol que deben representar y eso hace que deseamos ver su último momento en el film; quiero dejar claro que cuando digo que son molestos, quiero decir cumplen con su trabajo; lo otro importante en estos personajes es que cumplen con el cliché típico de los slasher, justamente uno de esos clichés es "The Final Girl", en esta oportunidad la actriz Nell Verlaque interpreta a "Jessica" y es el personaje que menos me gustó; es muy dependiente, aunque por ser el primer film, puede ser que tenga un mejor desarrollo en otras producciones, pero en esta oportunidad, es una completa decepción, poca valentía y nula fuerza.

I am not going to expand on the line of the performances, I just want to refer to whether or not the different characters fulfilled their role as victims and suspects; I think this film has something very marked and that is precisely it; I think both types of characters make a correct representation, to be annoying in the role they should represent and that makes us want to see their last moment in the film; I want to make clear that when I say they are annoying, I mean they do their job; the other important thing in these characters is that they fulfill the typical slasher cliché, precisely one of those clichés is "The Final Girl", in this opportunity the actress Nell Verlaque plays "Jessica" and is the character that I liked the least; she is very dependent, although for being the first film, it may have a better development in other productions, but in this opportunity, she is a complete disappointment, little courage and no strength.

Esperaba más de Thanksgiving, tenía gran expectativa porque pude leer buenas opiniones, pero creo que faltó un mejor e impactante final y es que aquí es donde lo que dije en anterioridad con respecto a lo resolutivo de muchas de sus escenas, en los minutos finales se convierte en su peor enemigo; justamente toda esa rapidez evita que el motivo del asesino sea mejor, así como la resolución del caso lo cual lo hace ver hasta muy tonto; en mi opinión hizo falta suspenso, mejor persecución, una mejor pelea final y es que lamento que el cierre de esta historia no sea tan buena como es el film, las muertes son buenas, el primer acto del film es genial y creo que debió seguir así hasta el final, pero hubo muchas decisiones que pienso que no son las mejores; a pesar de mi crítica al cierre del último acto, recomiendo ese film, es un buen salsher, buen diseño del asesino, buenas muertes, buen motivo; tiene buenos elementos que hacen en gran parte disfrutar del film.

I expected more from Thanksgiving, I had great expectations because I could read good opinions, but I think it lacked a better and shocking ending and this is where what I said before regarding the resolution of many of his scenes, in the final minutes becomes its worst enemy; just all that speed prevents the motive of the murderer is better, as well as the resolution of the case which makes it look very silly; in my opinion it lacked suspense, better chase, a better final fight and I regret that the closing of this story is not as good as the film, the deaths are good, the first act of the film is great and I think it should have continued until the end, but there were many decisions that I think are not the best; despite my criticism to the closing of the last act, I recommend this film, it is a good salsher, good design of the murderer, good deaths, good motive; it has good elements that make the film enjoyable for the most part.
