The Flash - Movie Review [ES - EN]

Cada vez es más evidente que las decisiones de grandes productoras sobre la realización y estrenos de films basados en superhéroes de comics, pareciera que ha llegado a un umbral de aceptación por parte del público en general; en los últimos dos años, la calidad de la mayoría de films estrenados basados en Marvel y DC Comics, no es la mejor y es que muy pocos fims, en mi opinión tan solo dos, han alcanzado demostrar un excelente trabajo en todos los ámbitos y eso es lamentable porque creo que hay héroes que deben ser tratados de una mejor manera por la calidad de historia que se imprimen en muchos capítulos en los comics, un ejemplo evidente de lo antes descrito, es la película a la cual hago reseña en esta publicación.

It is becoming more and more evident that the decisions of major production companies regarding the making and release of films based on comic book superheroes seem to have reached a threshold of acceptance by the general public; in the last two years, the quality of most films released based on Marvel and DC Comics, is not the best and very few fims, in my opinion only two, have managed to demonstrate excellent work in all areas and that is unfortunate because I think there are heroes that should be treated in a better way for the quality of history that are printed in many chapters in the comics, an obvious example of the above described, is the film which I review in this publication.

Posiblemente, "The Flash" tuvo (junto a Justice Legue) la pre y postproducción más caótica del cine basado en comics; cambios de director, guionistas, problemas con su protagonista principal, campaña de desprestigio, el fandom muy enojado, un acumulado de situaciones que vaticinaron el desastre en la taquilla de esta producción que dejó grandes pérdidas a WB Pictures; a pesar de todo eso, está motivado por ver el decimotercero (cronológicamente) film que finaliza al poco exitoso "DCEU" (DC Extended Universe). En esta historia veremos cómo Barry Allen, todavía trata de encajar en un mundo en dónde tiene la responsabilidad de ser parte de La Liga de la Justicia, en dónde no tiene una participación principal, sino como uno de reparto porque su función es de limpiar "los desastres" que dejan sus otros compañeros; eso sigue crea en Barry frustración porque a pesar de las vidas que puede salvar a diario, no puede ayudar a quien más ama, me refiero a sus padres y es ese sentimiento lo que le hace pensar en las muchas posibilidades, permitidas o no, para recuperar a lo que más extraña y justamente en un momento de debilidad, correrá tan rápido que llegará a un momento en el tiempo dónde podrá obtener todo lo que ha perdido, aunque deberá pagar un alto precio.

Possibly, "The Flash" had (along with Justice Legue) the most chaotic pre- and post-production of comic book movies; changes of director, screenwriters, problems with its main protagonist, smear campaign, the very angry fandom, an accumulation of situations that predicted the disaster at the box office of this production that left big losses to WB Pictures; despite all that, he is motivated to see the thirteenth (chronologically) film that ends the unsuccessful "DCEU" (DC Extended Universe). In this story we will see how Barry Allen, still trying to fit in a world where he has the responsibility of being part of the Justice League, where he does not have a main participation, but as one of the supporting cast because its function is to clean up "the messes" left by his other teammates; That continues to create frustration in Barry because despite the lives he can save every day, he cannot help the one he loves the most, I mean his parents and it is that feeling that makes him think of the many possibilities, allowed or not, to recover what he misses the most and precisely in a moment of weakness, he will run so fast that he will reach a moment in time where he can get everything he has lost, although he will have to pay a high price.

De las pocas buenas decisiones que tuvo WB en esta producción, fue elegir a Andy Muschietti, aunque así como sucede al personaje de Barry Allen, este director tuvo que pagar un alto precio; esta película es un acierto en ideas para explotar las habilidades del personaje principal, pero el gran problema fue la ejecución de algunas de esas ideas, preferiblemente enfocadas en el velocista de DC Comics; en mi opinión las escenas de Barry no demuestran el verdadero potencial del personaje y se pierde una gran oportunidad de hacer algo mucho más relevante, algo épico que pudo ser inolvidable en un buen sentido y no en lo demostrado en el film; lo que sí pude disfrutar fue de las escenas de los dos Batman y de Supergirl, la cual me gustó ver en las escenas de acción en dónde participó. Muschietti tiene un gran potencial y es lamentable que el horrendo uso del CGI, sea por decisión de él y de los productores, es lo que afecte su trabajo en este film.

El guion fue escrito por Christina Hodson de la historia creada por quienes primeramente serían tanto directores y guionistas de este film, me refiero a John Francis Daley y Jonathan Michael Goldstein; el guion en gran parte es genial, el humor es muy bueno y fluye muy bien, aunque en mi opinión cae mucho en la escena final que en mi opinión no encaja para nada en la historia porque no provee nada importante, pero en términos generales me pareció un buen trabajo porque explora los motivos de Barry, en su necesidad y obligación de convertirse en un héroe y justamente sus errores podrá convertirlo en el gran héroe que es; me gusta mucho la influencia que tiene a otros films en dónde los viajes en el tiempo son la base de sus historias; también me gusta que se repite el tiempo para explicar las reglas impuestas para que los viajes en el tiempo tenga mucha importancia en el desarrollo del film, pero creo que lo verdaderamente que me pareció genial, es el mensaje positivo sobre cómo superar o sobrellevar mejor los traumas del pasado es lo necesario para avanzar y tener una vida mejor; en mi opinión, es de los puntos positivos de The Flash.

One of the few good decisions that WB had in this production, was to choose Andy Muschietti, although as it happens to the character of Barry Allen, this director had to pay a high price; this film is a success in ideas to exploit the abilities of the main character, but the big problem was the execution of some of those ideas, preferably focused on the DC Comics speedster; in my opinion Barry's scenes don't show the true potential of the character and a great opportunity to do something much more relevant is lost, something epic that could have been unforgettable in a good sense and not in what was shown in the film; what I could enjoy was the scenes of the two Batman and Supergirl, which I liked to see in the action scenes where she participated. Muschietti**_ has great potential and it is unfortunate that the horrendous use of CGI, whether by his and the producers' decision, is what affected his work in this film.

The screenplay was written by Christina Hodson from the story created by those who would first be both directors and screenwriters of this film, I mean John Francis Daley and Jonathan Michael Goldstein; the script in great part is great, the humor is very good and flows very well, although in my opinion it falls a lot in the final scene that in my opinion does not fit at all in the story because it does not provide anything important, but in general terms I found a good job because it explores the motives of Barry, in his need and obligation to become a hero and just his mistakes can make him the great hero he is; I really like the influence it has on other films where time travel is the basis of their stories; I also like that time is repeated to explain the rules imposed so that time travel is very important in the development of the film, but I think what I really thought was great, is the positive message about how to overcome or better cope with past traumas is necessary to move forward and have a better life; in my opinion, it is one of the positive points of The Flash.

Las actuaciones, este es el punto más alto del film y aunque muchos no les guste, debo decir que Ezra Miller es genial como "Barry Allen" y no solamente me refiero a una sola versión, sino a las dos versiones del mismo personaje que realiza en este film; es perfecto en como sus decisiones crean un caos en las muchas líneas temporales y la interacción que tiene entre él mismo y otros personajes es también perfecta; este Barry tiene gran dependencia emocional hacia sus padres siendo el gran motivo para convertirse en un héroe y hasta creer en un sistema, ese sentimiento de apego emocional, que lo convierte en un niño, lo demuestra muy bien este actor que pareciera tener un buen don para conectar con sus otros compañeros a pesar del breve tiempo que tiene en escena. Haré un nombramiento breve con la aparición de Michael Keaton y Ben Affleck interpretando a "Bruce Wayne/Batman", ambos representan una versión de este personaje que es adecuada para la interacción con Barry porque justamente, Bruce sabe lo que Allen ha perdido y espera que no cometa nos los mismos errores que él cometió en su camino para convertirse en un héroe, creo que en esa parte la interpretación de ambos es lo mejor, aunque resalto la de Keaton que desde la nostalgia nos demostró lo que hizo con ese personaje que fue genial; también nombraré al breve de trabajo de Sasha Calle como "Kara Zor El/Supergirl", es perfecta, es una versión adecuada, muy apegada a lo que es está historia sobre en este caso la gran heroína de Krypton, me hubiera gustado ver mucho más de ella Interpretando a este personaje, demuestra rabia, miedo, frustración, seriedad, pero también curiosidad y lo más importante, gratitud y eso puede convertirla en alguien importante para ese mundo de dónde ella es parte.

The performances, this is the highest point of the film and although many do not like it, I must say that Ezra Miller is great as "Barry Allen" and I am not only referring to a single version, but to the two versions of the same character he plays in this film; he is perfect in how his decisions create chaos in the many timelines and the interaction he has between himself and other characters is also perfect; this Barry has great emotional dependence towards his parents being the great reason to become a hero and even believe in a system, that feeling of emotional attachment, which makes him a child, is demonstrated very well by this actor who seems to have a good gift to connect with his other companions despite the short time he has in scene. I will make a brief appointment with the appearance of Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck playing "Bruce Wayne/Batman", both represent a version of this character that is suitable for interaction with Barry because justly, Bruce knows what Allen has lost and hopes he doesn't make the same mistakes he made on his way to become a hero, I think that in that part the interpretation of both is the best, although I highlight that of Keaton who from the nostalgia showed us what he did with that character that was great; I will also mention the brief work of Sasha Calle as "Kara Zor El/Supergirl", she is perfect, she is an adequate version, very close to what is this story about the great heroine of Krypton, I would have liked to see much more of her playing this character, she shows anger, fear, frustration, seriousness, but also curiosity and most importantly, gratitude and that can make her someone important for the world where she is part of.

Es una verdadera lástima los muchos fallos que tiene este film; hay evidentes errores que hace imposible disfrutar por completo está producción y eso es debido a la conclusión de su tercer acto, el cual hace referencia a lo que describí con anterioridad con respecto a las buenas ideas, pero con una lamentable ejecución; es incomprensible que el desenlace final o la batalla final sean tan decepcionante por las imágenes que observamos en esas escenas; es posiblemente el peor uso del CGI que he visto en la actualidad, créanme que es el peor y afecta enormemente al film; ahora, con lo antes descrito, no considero a "The Flash" sea un mal film y eso es debido porque es divertido, es entretenido, la historia de este héroe y todo lo que debe enfrentar por las decisiones que tomó, es algo que muy pocas veces se ve en un héroe, me refiero a enfrentar cada problema de manera inmediata, hacerse cargo de los actos o errores que ha cometido y es que todo el asunto de proteger a quien más ama, en especial a él mismo, es lo que más me ha gustado de esta historia; todo eso junto a la nostalgia hace que haya disfrutado por gran parte a esta película y que lamentablemente, este universo cinematográfico sigue teniendo cómo gran enemigo a WB Pictures.

It is a real pity the many failures that this film has; there are obvious mistakes that makes it impossible to fully enjoy this production and that is due to the conclusion of its third act, which refers to what I described above regarding good ideas, but with a lamentable execution; it is incomprehensible that the final denouement or the final battle are so disappointing because of the images we see in those scenes; it is possibly the worst use of CGI I have seen today, believe me it is the worst and greatly affects the film; now, with the above described, I do not consider "The Flash " to be a bad film and that is because it is fun, it is entertaining, the story of this hero and everything he has to face for the decisions he made, is something that is rarely seen in a hero, I mean to face every problem immediately, take responsibility for the acts or mistakes he has made and the whole issue of protecting those he loves the most, especially himself, is what I liked most of this story; all that together with the nostalgia made me enjoy this movie for the most part and unfortunately, this cinematic universe continues to have WB Pictures as a great enemy.
