The Gorge - Movie Review [ES-EN]

El pasado Día de los Enamorados, se estrenó "The Gorge", film original de Apple TV+ que relata la historia de dos francotiradores de élite, "Levi Kane" y "Drasa", quienes desarrollan una relación prohibida por el contrato que deben realizar el cual es ser los guardianes de un enorme y profundo desfiladero que esconde terroríficos secretos; justamente al momento de bajar la guardia y mostrar cierta vulnerabilidad, es cuando lo que deben vigilar comienza a revelarse creando graves problemas que podrán no solo poner fin a su relación, sino terminar con toda humanidad.

Es conocido que ciertos directores al momento de comenzar una gran producción, deciden no tener una pausa o largas vacaciones, sino trabajar en producciones que sean pequeñas, sin tanta presión que puedan considerarse como una película divertida y creo que el director Scott Derrickson posiblemente tuvo esa oportunidad al dirigir este film en dónde a pesar de usar el romance como base de la historia, creo que los elementos de terror y acción es en dónde mejor resaltó en su dirección. Derrickson tuvo la oportunidad de dar un giro radical en este film al momento de que su segundo acto es divertido por las buenas escenas de acción junto al buen uso del jump scare; pienso que la experiencia de trabajar para Marvel Studios, propinó la creación de divertidas escenas, en dónde las secuencias de acción tuvieron el ritmo adecuado para hacer el film más entretenido.

El guion es genérico, directo y poco original, esas características por supuesto que no lo hace ser un film perfecto, pero tiene ciertas características que me parecieron correctas con el desarrollo de las historias de sus dos protagonistas que en mi opinión le da fuerza a la relación o conexión entre ambos, esto lo aprecio porque a pesar de no ser un fan de las películas románticas, creo que hay elementos muy bien usados para este pequeño film; con respecto al elemento de la originalidad, al ver las escenas de acción, se me hizo inevitable no recordar a videojuegos de finales de los 90' y parte del 2000 en adelante; el desarrollo del segundo acto es como si estuviera en la mitad de algún juego de Resident Evil, estás son las cosas que aprecio al ver, pero también me hace ver qué nuevamente el guionista Zach Dean es de los menos originales en la actualidad.

It is known that certain directors at the time of starting a big production, decide not to have a break or long vacation, but work on productions that are small, without so much pressure that can be considered as a fun movie and I think the director Scott Derrickson possibly had that opportunity to direct this film where despite using romance as the basis of the story, I think the elements of terror and action is where it best highlighted in his direction. Derrickson**_ had the opportunity to give a radical twist in this film when his second act is fun because of the good action scenes along with the good use of jump scare; I think the experience of working for Marvel Studios, propitiated the creation of fun scenes, where the action sequences had the right pace to make the film more entertaining.

The script is generic, direct and unoriginal, those characteristics of course does not make it a perfect film, but it has certain characteristics that I found correct with the development of the stories of its two main characters that in my opinion gives strength to the relationship or connection between them, I appreciate this because despite not being a fan of romantic movies, I think there are elements very well used for this little film; regarding the element of originality, when watching the action scenes, it was inevitable for me not to remember video games from the late 90's and part of 2000 onwards; the development of the second act is as if it was in the middle of some Resident Evil game, these are the things I appreciate when watching, but it also makes me see that once again the screenwriter Zach Dean is one of the least original nowadays.

Disfrute de la química entre Miles Teller y Anya Taylor-Joy, que sin hacer un gran trabajo actoral, de igual manera son convincentes como una pareja que se enamora de manera tan rápida y arriesgan todo por estar juntos; me gusta la versión de "Levi" interpretado por Teller, su actitud, tono de voz y demás se presta para narrar la historia de un hombre solitario, traumado que acepta su realidad, pero está abierto a cambios que propone el personaje de "Drasa" interpretado por Anya, quien es la causante o motivo principal de muchos de los sucesos que observamos en el film, todo gracias a como ella decide relatar su historia desde el momento de soledad hasta el momento que decide que no debe estar sola. En mi opinión, el trabajo de ambos es de lo que considero como lo mejor del film.

I enjoyed the chemistry between Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, who without doing a great acting job, are equally convincing as a couple who fall in love so quickly and risk everything to be together; I like the version of "Levi" played by Teller, his attitude, tone of voice and so on lends itself to narrate the story of a lonely, traumatized man who accepts his reality, but is open to changes proposed by the character of "Drasa" played by Anya, who is the cause or main reason for many of the events we observe in the film, all thanks to how she decides to tell her story from the moment of loneliness to the moment she decides that she should not be alone. In my opinion, the work of both is what I consider to be the best of the film.

Nuevamente, tener pocas o ninguna expectativa me ayuda disfrutar de una película y más cuando son películas originales de alguna plataforma de streaming; The Gorge es la típica película con una historia con mucho potencial que lamentablemente la afecta la poca originalidad del guion, creo que se pudo intensificar los elementos de terror, tensión y acción, para crear un mejor drama en lo que es la historia de amor que de igual manera tiene mucha relevante, ya que es el tema más importante de la película y lo cual resalta el género del romance y posiblemente sea lo que ha llevado al éxito a este film que con ciertas imperfecciones, la recomiendo porque esta película con las características antes citadas, está dirigida a un extenso público, lo cual estadísticamente la ha convertido en un éxito en la plataforma en donde fue estrenada.

Again, having little or no expectations helps me to enjoy a movie and even more when they are original movies from a streaming platform; **The Gorge is the typical movie with a story with a lot of potential that unfortunately is affected by the lack of originality of the script, I think it could have intensified the elements of terror, tension and action, to create a better drama in what is the love story that also has much relevant, It is the most important theme of the film, which highlights the romance genre and is possibly what has led to the success of this film that with certain imperfections, I recommend it because this film with the aforementioned characteristics, is aimed at a large audience, which statistically has made it a success on the platform where it was released.
