The Marvels - Movie Review [ES - EN]

No hay ninguna duda que las películas basadas en cómics están pasando por su peor momento; la mala calidad en historia, actuación, dirección y demás elementos hacen se pierda el interés en este tipo de producciones; un nuevo ejemplo de lo antes descrito es el MCU que parece haber gastado la fórmula exitosa de sus primeras fases y ahora sin importar que tan planeada sea el final de uno de los muchos relatos dentro de esa franquicia y termine siendo un fracaso en recaudación de taquilla.

There is no doubt that movies based on comic books are going through their worst moment; the poor quality in story, acting, direction and other elements make people lose interest in this type of productions; a new example of the above is the MCU that seems to have spent the successful formula of its first phases and now no matter how planned is the end of one of the many stories within that franchise and ends up being a failure at the box office.

Al comenzar a ver "The Marvels", película que es secuela de "Captain Marvel" (2019), de eventos en "WandaVision" (2021) y de la miniserie "Ms. Marvel", me hizo pensar que (por supuesto) Marvel Studios tenía un plan para el desarrollo de la historia de estos personajes junto a todo lo referente al multiverso lo cual sigue siendo el tema de importancia en las últimas fases de esta franquicia; un plan igual al que se trató de realizar con La Bruja Escarlata después de la producción del cual fue protagonista y el film "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness"; ambos planes, en mi opinión, no cumplió con todas las expectativas creadas y considero que la relación de todas estas series de producciones lo considero como el comienzo y por ahora fin de este grave problema que padece el MCU.

As I started watching "The Marvels ", a film that is a sequel to "Captain Marvel" (2019), events in "WandaVision" (2021) and the "Ms. Marvel" miniseries, it made me think that (of course) Marvel Studios had a plan for the story development of these characters along with everything related to the multiverse. Esta película reúne al trío de heroínas que comparten similitudes con su nombre de héroe y un poder, el cual difieren en su uso, pudo ser una gran producción, una aventura espacial en donde se debería derrotar a un gran enemigo, lamentablemente este film se aleja de esa simple idea y ofrece la que considero una de las peores películas de esta franquicia basada en comics. La dirección (supuestamente) realizada por Nia DaCosta, es de lo más simple y menos destacable en este film, es genérico y en momentos pareciera que estuviera viendo una serie de TV; ni las extensas escenas de pelea en el primer acto del film puedo decir que es entretenida o un estilo para tomar en cuenta en un futuro, es completamente decepcionante.

El guion a pesar de lo simple pudo ser mejor, por ejemplo, el tema en que cada uno de estos personajes cambie de lugar al usar sus poderes me pareció una buena y divertida idea porque de esa manera salta ese tema de obligar a reconocer virtudes y así formar un equipo, algo que de igual manera está presente, pero es mucho más rápido y eso lo reconozco como una virtud; ahora el problema está en como se desarrolla el protagonismo de "Carol Danvers" y "Monica Rambeau", una se ve opacada o hasta olvidada por lo mal escrito de la villana y sus motivos, la otra es de lo más forzado y la poca o nula empatía que se puede sentir por ese personaje, cosa contraria con "Kamala" que sin importar que tan molesta que puede ser su personaje, no cambia, pero eso no evita que sea un personaje mal escrito porque no presenta ningún crecimiento.

This film brings together the trio of heroines who share similarities with their hero's name and a power, which they differ in its use, it could have been a great production, a space adventure where a great enemy should be defeated, unfortunately this film moves away from that simple idea and offers what I consider one of the worst films of this franchise based on comics. The direction (supposedly) done by Nia DaCosta, is one of the simplest and least remarkable in this film, it's generic and at times it feels like I'm watching a TV series; neither the extensive fight scenes in the first act of the film I can say it's entertaining or a style to take into account in the future, it's completely disappointing.

The script despite its simplicity could have been better, for example, the theme that each of these characters change places when using their powers seemed to me a good and fun idea because that way jumps that theme of forcing to recognize virtues and thus form a team, something that is also present, but it is much faster and that I recognize as a virtue; now the problem is in how the protagonism of "Carol Danvers" and "Monica Rambeau" is developed, one is overshadowed or even forgotten by the poorly written of the villain and her motives, the other is of the most forced and the little or no empathy that can be felt for that character, the opposite with "Kamala" that no matter how annoying her character can be, does not change, but that does not prevent it from being a poorly written character because it does not present any growth.

No es un secreto que los villanos en el MCU son los peores personajes en esta franquicia, esto no lo digo por sus actos en las diferentes historias, sino por lo mal escritos; en "The Marvels", puedo decir con toda mi convicción de que el personaje "Dar-Benn" interpretado por Zawe Ashton, es el peor villano que he visto, es aburrida, no es intimidante, no posee ninguna frase célebre y lo peor es la actuación; es un personaje muy malamente usado y esto lo digo por sus convincentes motivos para llevar a cabo la venganza contra la Capitana Marvel; mayormente culpo a los guionistas cuando un personaje importante no posee un peso relevante en la historia, pero cuando el actor no contribuye en nada con el personaje, es inevitable no convertirse en parte de lo peor del film.

It's no secret that the villains in the MCU are the worst characters in this franchise, I don't say this because of their actions in the different stories, but because of the bad writing; in "The Marvels", I can say with all my conviction that the character "Dar-Benn" played by Zawe Ashton, is the worst villain I have ever seen, she is boring, she is not intimidating, she has no famous phrase and the worst is the acting; he is a very badly used character and I say this because of his convincing motives to carry out the revenge against Captain Marvel; mostly I blame the screenwriters when an important character doesn't have a relevant weight in the story, but when the actor doesn't contribute anything to the character, it is inevitable not to become part of the worst of the film.

Por extraña razón, he visto toda esta historia de "Captain Marvel" que ha ofrecido el MCU; más que nada por la influencia de críticas (positivas y negativas) hacia el personaje y también por sus otras versiones, en especial por la de "Ms. Marvel" que creo que presenta de los mejores episodios pilotos en este formato de serie de TV del MCU; posiblemente eso se debe a que en esta oportunidad sea el personaje de "Monica" quien tenga más protagonismo, pero creo que es un grave error porque no tiene una verdadera historia que respalde sus actos en este film, lamentablemente sigue siendo un personaje olvidable, el cual no tiene el peso para liderar un film y menos este que debió ser un buen final para esta historia de la Avengers más poderosa. Me sorprendió que este film no sea considerado como de los peores del pasado año, su corta duración es uno de los factores que perjudican el desarrollo de la historia, pero a pesar de alguna que otra decisión, pienso en el nulo desarrollo de los personajes, son los mismos que en producciones pasadas y eso es grave, los convierte en aburridos y creo que es eso una de las características que cada vez más afecta a este género del cine.

For a strange reason, I've seen all this "Captain Marvel" story that the MCU has offered; mostly because of the influence of reviews (positive and negative) towards the character and also for its other versions, especially for "Ms. Marvel", which I think presents one of the best pilot episodes in this MCU TV series format. I was surprised that this film is not considered as one of the worst of last year, its short duration is one of the factors that harm the development of the story, but despite some other decision, I think in the null development of the characters, they are the same as in past productions and that is serious, it makes them boring and I think that is one of the characteristics that increasingly affects this genre of cinema.
