Después del reconocimiento que obtuvo "Oz" Perkins con la película "Longlegs" del pasado año, no había duda que existía ciertas expectativas por esta nueva película; una la cual ofrecía cierta libertad de desarrollo en su historia al ser basada en un cuento corto y creo que para este director y guionista fue perfecta para ofrecer nuevamente su toque personal en lo que es la historia de la relación de dos hermanos y la extraña herencia de su ausente padre; en eso este film se convierte en una comedia para lidiar con tanta tragedia o mejor dicho con tanto horror que va sucediendo en esta también corta película que usa el punto de vista de los dos hermanos para narrar su origen así como su presente.

Es un acierto de Perkins el usar la comedia para recrear escenas de las muchas muertes en el film; muchas son impactantes y a la vez absurdas lo cual genera risa por como van sucediendo y aunque al ver esta película es imposible no hacer comparativa con "Final Destination", repito (lo seguiré haciendo en la reseña) es la comedia lo que hace funcionar a muchas de esas escenas, lo cual creó que son predecibles, pero a la vez son divertidas por como van sucediendo; "Oz" nuevamente recrea un mundo bastante lúgubre, oscuro, tétrico, triste, por supuesto todo desde el punto de vista de sus protagonistas que también representan dichas características, que con un buen manejo del humor hace que funcione esta trágica historia.

It is a success of Perkins to use comedy to recreate scenes of the many deaths in the film; many are shocking and at the same time absurd which generates laughter as they happen and although when watching this film it is impossible not to make comparison with "Final Destination", I repeat (I will continue to do so in the review) is the comedy that makes many of these scenes work, which created that are predictable, but at the same time are funny as they happen; Oz" again recreates a pretty grim, dark, gloomy, gloomy, sad world, of course all from the point of view of its protagonists who also represent those characteristics, which with a good handling of humor makes this tragic story work.

Este film se divide en dos actos, uno en dónde se desarrolla en el año 1999 en dónde los protagonistas están experimentando el comienzo de la adolescencia, en esa parte disfrute de la actuación de Christian Convery como los jóvenes "Hal" y "Bill Shelburn"; en esa etapa del film, la notoria diferencia entre los dos personajes es fundamental para entender del porqué sucede muchas cosas en la historia, "Hal" es el típico niño que realiza una transición entre la niñez y adolescencia de una manera inocente, en cambio, "Bill" es todo lo contrario, su aspecto y actitud de Bully, en especial contra su hermano, es lo que hace que tenga una imagen de fuerte, rebelde y hasta cruel; esa diferencia funciona muy bien en esa primera parte del film que es cierto que no se observa muy bien cuando el film muestra la versión adulta de los personajes interpretado por Theo James, quien hace un correcto trabajo en su actuación como "Hal", alguien que ha dejado la inocencia atrás, pero mantiene un sentimiento de culpa por todo lo sucedido en años anteriores así como un miedo por lo que puede suceder a él, así como quienes lo rodean; entre esos dos actores es notorio que uno hace mejor trabajo que el otro, pero de igual manera hace que el film funcione en el relato de un drama familiar con aspectos de terror y por supuesto comedia.

This film is divided into two acts, one where it takes place in the year 1999 where the protagonists are experiencing the beginning of adolescence, in that part enjoy the performance of Christian Convery as the young "Hal" and "Bill Shelburn"; at that stage of the film, the notorious difference between the two characters is fundamental to understand why many things happen in the story, "Hal" is the typical boy who makes a transition between childhood and adolescence in an innocent way, on the other hand, "Bill" is the opposite, his appearance and attitude of Bully, especially against his brother, is what makes him have an image of strong, rebellious and even cruel; that difference works very well in that first part of the film which is true that it is not very well observed when the film shows the adult version of the characters played by Theo James, who does a correct job in his performance as "Hal", someone who has left innocence behind, but maintains a feeling of guilt for everything that happened in previous years as well as a fear for what can happen to him, as well as those around him; between these two actors it is noticeable that one does a better job than the other, but still makes the film work in the telling of a family drama with aspects of horror and of course comedy.

The Monkey es un film bastante entretenido, divertido, es una comedia negra de horror que funciona en muchos momentos porque justamente no toma muy en serio lo referente a las muertes de muchos personajes sin importancia para la historia; esa es la característica más notorio del film, pero también se toma el tiempo para dar a conocer a sus protagonistas, la manera de lidiar con la perdida, la manera de lidiar con la ausencia de un padre, la relación entre hermanos, hay muchos aspectos personales de Perkins y su relación con su muy famoso padre que así como sucede en "Longlegs" nuevamente se hace presente aunque en esta oportunidad, la comedia posiblemente haga que parte del público no conecte de manera adecuada con la historia; personalmente me gustó, cumplió con las pocas expectativas que tuve, me gustaron sus personajes, el humor, las muertes y aunque creo que sus 20 minutos finales se pudo hacer algo mejor, creo que el film cumple con ser una correcta versión a una historia escrita por Stephen King.
