The Nun II - Movie Review [ES - EN]
En estos últimos años, no solamente el MCU como franquicia se puede considerar como un completo éxito en recaudación monetaria, existe otra franquicia más que posiblemente si comparo tanto en costo de producción y recaudación, posiblemente sea más exitosa que esta serie de películas basadas en comics, la franquicia que les hablo es "The Conjuring Universe" que hasta los momentos cuenta con ocho películas y próximamente sean más. Este universo de films llenos de personajes y momentos terroríficos ha creado un cierto grupo de fans que están dispuestos a ver estás historias en dónde el susto está presente, pero lamentablemente la calidad de la historia y otros aspectos no tanto.

"The Nun II" secuela del film "The Nun" (2018) y (por supuesto) segunda precuela de "The Conjuring 2 (2016); relata el regreso del demonio que primeramente hizo presencia en Rumania, preferiblemente en el Monasterio de Santa Carta y del cual se pensó que fue derrotado por el milagro que consiguió la joven Hermana Irene, pero este demonio que profana la imagen de una monja pudo conseguir una vía de escape y cuatro años después comienza una ola de ataques a personalidades de la iglesia en varias zonas de Europa, eso hace que el Vaticano recurra a la hermana Irene le dé la misión de nuevamente obrar otro milagro y mandar al infierno a tan vil criatura, es por eso que la valiente Irene deberá tomar fortaleza de su fe para enfrentar nuevamente a la Monja Infernal.

Personalmente, no soy muy entusiasta con esta franquicia de terror, ya que solo he disfrutado tres de sus films, esos son The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2 y Annabelle: Creation; los otros no los considero buenos films y eso es por la sobreexplotación del "Jump Scare"; justamente eso fue un tema que se discutió con el estreno del primer film protagonizado por este personaje y el cual fue un fracaso en la opinión de la crítica especializada y creo que con esta secuela, se tenía la oportunidad de hacer algo mejor y por eso se contó con el director Michael Chaves quien dirigió un film relacionado con este universo, me refiero a "The Curse of La Llorona" y a la tercera parte de El Conjuro, "The Devil Made Me Do It"; con respecto a su trabajo en esta producción, haré referencia a las escenas de terror en dónde hay momentos en dónde esté director tiene un correcto desempeño en los dos primeros actos del film, creo que tiene un buen comienzo que puede verse afectado por la obviedad en ese tipo de escenas, pero creo que después tiene un mejor transitar que lamentablemente se ve muy afectado por ciertas decisiones en el cierre del film, un cierre en dónde ninguna de las escenas de terror funcionan.
La historia es sumamente simple, es oportuna y posiblemente prisionera de lo que sucede en una breve escena al comienzo de The Conjuring, pero no puedo culpar a lo que seguramente era lo planeado para comenzar esta franquicia, la culpa que la historia no sea para nada buena cae en responsabilidad de Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing y Akela Cooper, los cuales al escribir el guion para este film, idearon que se debería cumplir con todos los clichés que existen en películas de terror sobrenatural, por ejemplo la existencia del ente poderoso y terrorífico, resolver el misterio del porqué de su regreso, descubrir si hay un arma que pueda derrotarlo, secuaces y posibles víctimas a enfrentar, un secreto del pasado que puede cambiar todo y por supuesto, si algo funciona, entonces es mejor repetirlo; creo que esto me creó una gran decepción de un film del cual no esperaba nada.

The story is extremely simple, it's timely and possibly a prisoner of what happens in a brief scene at the beginning of The Conjuring, but I can't blame what was surely planned to start this franchise, the blame that the story is not good at all falls on the responsibility of Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing and Akela Cooper, who in writing the script for this film, They came up with all the clichés that exist in supernatural horror movies, i.e. the existence of the powerful and terrifying entity, solving the mystery of why it came back, finding out if there is a weapon that can defeat it, henchmen and possible victims to face, a secret from the past that can change everything and of course, if something works, then it is better to repeat it; I think this created a big disappointment in a film from which I didn't expect anything.
Seré breve con las actuaciones y eso es debido a que no hay ninguna para destacar; todos los actores son víctimas de una mala escritura de sus personajes, no existe desarrollo adecuado para la historia y es que muchos son prescindibles; posiblemente el personaje de la "Hermana Irene" Interpretado por Taissa Farmiga es quien muestre una limitada inesperada evolución a ser más independiente y fuerte de lo que fue su personaje en el primer film, pero de igual manera no hay mucho de donde desarrollar, de crear cierto impacto, se le anexa un pasado, algo que debería funcionar como un motivo, pero nada más, en realidad es algo simple, sin un peso como sé que quiso dar y es que creo que el guion le debió dar más protagonismo del que tuvo, crear el material necesario para poder enfrentar nuevamente a su poderoso rival.
I will be brief with the performances and that is because there are none to highlight; all the actors are victims of a bad writing of their characters, there is no adequate development for the story and many are expendable; possibly the character of "Sister Irene" played by Taissa Farmiga is the one who shows a limited unexpected evolution to be more independent and stronger than her character was in the first film, but in the same way there is not much to develop, to create some impact, a past is attached, something that should work as a motive, but nothing more, in reality it is something simple, without a weight as I know she wanted to give and I think the script should have given her more prominence than she had, create the necessary material to be able to face again her powerful rival.
En términos generales, The Nun II no es un buen film, es una lástima que ciertas decisiones al final afecten enormemente a un film que con una duración de 90 minutos o hasta menos, hubiera quedado bien, no perfecto, pero si entretenido, mejor que su anterior film, pero ese tercer y acto final es un despropósito; el acto final dura más de 40 minutos y es exageradamente malo, hay poco que resaltar y es una que otra imagen, pero nada más porque todo lo que va sucediendo se pudo evitar al hacer más corta la historia, por ejemplo hacer un enfrentamiento al luchar contra una posesión demoniaca y después con la revelación del demonio en sí, eso sin temer en hacer algo que ya se ha hecho y es que me sorprende que se usó tanto cliché y a la vez se tenga el temor de copiar lo bueno de ese estilo de films. No recomiendo esta película; hay mejores producciones que pueden ver, mi consejo es que vean nuevamente The Conjuring o El Exorcista, pero pasen de ver esta secuela que no aporta nada a la franquicia del cual es parte y por supuesto al género del terror.

I haven't watched this new sequel but I've definitely seen other three and tbh, I agree with your critics on the development of the characters. The three I watched especially Annabelle was filled with annoying jump scares which was also annoyingly always accompanied by jarring sounds. I'm not really a fan of horror and after seeing Annabelle I regretted why I did. There was no real action, just high suspense and scary doll faces. Horror films these days aren't captivating anymore, it's just bloody shits and annoying jarring sounds.
It's no secret what I'll say, but it's all about making money and this franchise is an expert at it. Small budget and the gross is impressively much more and this movie despite not being one of the best, grossed up to 200 million more than its cost.
The jump scare is the main feature of the franchise, but there must be something more, a better quality in the stories and that is less and less present in these movies.
I recommend you to see the three that I liked and that you named in the review, they are the best.
De esta saga de de películas concuerdo en que el conjuro 1 y 2 son por mucho las mejores, las demás son más de lo mismo y en este caso, "La monja" desde su primera entrega para mí fue mala, y es como comentas, que decidieron poner todos los cliché de las películas de este género sin darle importancia a desarrollar bien a sus personajes o a que la historia como tal fuera más interesante. En lo personal no veré esta segunda entrega, pero muy acertadas tus opiniones. Saludos!
Muy buena decisión de pasar de esta película que no aporta nada a la franquicia y demuestra que es solo una excusa más para hacer crecer las ganancias que obtiene el Universo de El Conjuro.
A mi tampoco me gustó, me pareció muy Hollywoodense y al igual que tu pienso que tuvo carencia de trama, buenos dialogos y sobre todo una historia bien llevada. Es de esas películas que vería una sola vez.
Es olvidable como la anterior; yo en momentos pensaba "ver" nuevamente el primer film, pero como está secuela te hace un resumen en varios momentos de lo sucedido anteriormente, este es otro error del guion, ya que se pierde tiempo en eso o en otras cosas y es que me sorprende que tenga una duración de casi dos horas y sientas que no pasa absolutamente nada.
Justamente acabo de leer otra reseña de esta película y tampoco la recomiendan mucho que digamos. La verdad es que desde la segunda película de este "universo", noté una baja en su calidad, no sé, la primera me pareció muy entretenida, pero la segunda ya no tanto. Las de Annabelle no me gustaron nada, ni la que mencionas, ni hablar de la tercera de El Conjuro, me pareció pésima. Por eso ni me he acercado a La Monja y creo que me mantendré así.
La idea de crear un "universo cinematográfico" al rededor de los Warren es interesante, pero no sé si es que están contratando escritores perezosos o qué, estas historias deberían funcionar, pero simplemente no terminan de cuajar. Ojalá en algún momento regresen a algo medianamente entretenido o que y de plano las cancelen.
Tratan de abarcar mucho en sus historias, eso lo noté en El Conjuro 2 la cual para mí fue extensa, pero el final fue entretenido.
El segundo film de Annabelle me aprecio buena, es mejor que la primera que no da absolutamente nada de miedo y estoy de acuerdo con El Conjuro 3 que es muy mala; justamente en este mes Netflix estrena un documental sobre ese caso que se trata en ese film.
Lo único que me hubiese gustado es que exploraran más el trasfondo de Valak, me hubiese gustado saber más de él, creo que ese contexto le hubiese dado más profundidad a la película. En cambio decidieron hacer más de lo mismo, salvo por la razón del porque todo ocurre en el orfanato ese, el film es vacío totalmente.
Y a pesar de esto, lo considero mejor que el primero y ya es decir mucho. Espero que sea la última, no tiene sentido seguir indagando en un personaje que da cero miedo y perdió ese facto terrorífico hace rato.
Los dos primeros actos hay escenas bien producidas y hasta divertidas, pero es una locura todo lo que sucede en más de 40 minutos del final, eso arruina todo y más cuando es tan repetitivo.
Si llegas a ver la escena de El Conjuro en dónde los Warren realizan un exorcismo a Maurice, seguramente hay una película más en dónde nuevamente ese personaje será una vía para el regreso de Valak, creo que eso tiene que ver con la escena post créditos de la Monja 2.
Vi la primera de la The Nun hace años, y definitivamente no me gustó. Demasiado floja, pensé en dejar pasar la segunda parte, pero como ya había visto la primera, quise continuar la historia.
Definitivamente no aprendieron de los errores de la primera, como bien dices, si es cierto que esta vez le agregaron más acción, pero el arco argumental me pareció tan básico y los conflictos en el camino se resolvían de una manera tan fácil. De verdad que no cautivó para nada.
Me gustó la mitad del film, hay escenas bien hechas, escenas clásicas jump Scare, pero la historia, el final, como dices, lo fácil de resolver cada situación, le restó mucho a la historia; es otra decepcionante producción.
Muy buen punto, definitivamente estoy de acuerdo, la monja 2 es una decepción total para los que esperaban algo mejor, vi esta segunda entrega y no me gustó, no transmite emoción, entusiasmo, esperaba algo mejor, una historia más impactante, las actuaciones son pobres y vacías.

Okay, you have convinced me. I always like your review on movies. I have been considering watching The Nun series but I have been reluctant because of the negative reviews I have seen online. Though, I am yet to watch The conjuring. So I will follow your recommendations on this. I will start watch the conjuring soon. It's a pity that this movie wasn't not produced well to impress the audience. When I saw the trailer, I thought it would be a masterpiece. Amazing review!

The Conjuring is the best of them all, the one that is really worthwhile, but the others that I recommend entertained me.
The nun and the other movies are bad, very bad, do not watch them, they are not worth it and I tell you something, the nun 2 has a good production, there are images and scenes well done, but the story and the ending is so bad that ruins the film.

Hola, a veces pienso que estas películas son más de lo mismo y eso aburre un poco. Creo que la monja I no me pareció mala y al igual que tu pienso que el conjuro 1 y 2 y Annabelle 2 la creación, fueron las mejores, ésta última fue la que más me gustó. Esta monja 2 no la he visto, no me llama mucho la atención. Si pude ver Annabelle vuelve a casa, la he visto varias veces pero no completa, siempre me termino quedando dormida, jeje. También vi el conjuro parte 3, el diablo me hizo hacerlo, pero no me gustó. Saludos.
La tercera de Annabelle es malísima, es aburrida y la del Conjuro 3 es igual de mala, ya ni recuerdo de que va, pero se que dentro de poco, en Netflix se estrena un documental en dónde se relata la historia del caso del cual está basado el tercer film y espero que sea mucho mejor que ese film que usa elementos ficticios para desarrollar esa historia.
No vea La Monja 2.
