Hello movie lovers. Today I want to talk about another Disney movie that marked a big part of my childhood and that I still enjoy it a lot. We are talking about a movie that was released more than 20 years ago and that brought to stardom the famous actress Lindsay Lohan, who at that time was just a little girl. However, for me, this film is still as entertaining or even better than many movies that the mouse-eared giant has released recently.

Hola amantes de las películas. El día de hoy les quiero hablar de otra película de Disney que marcó gran parte de mi infancia y que aún al día de hoy la disfruto bastante. Estamos hablando de una película de hace más de 20 años que fue estrenada y que llevó al estrellato a la famosa actriz Lindsay Lohan, la cual en aquel entonces era apenas una niña. Sin embargo, para mí, está cinta sigue siendo igual o hasta mejor entretenida que muchas películas que ha sacado el gigante de orejas de ratón recientemente.

Plot

The movie is about the story of two twin sisters who, at birth, were separated as babies and raised individually with one of their parents (one with their dad and one with their mom). However, as life would have it, they are reunited years later, both at almost 12 years of age. They both learn that they are sisters by birth when they see that they both had half of a photo of their parents together.

After this unexpected meeting of life, both decide to plan a "game" which consists of exchanging roles, in order to meet their parents they have never seen since they were babies (one wants to meet her father who owns a vineyard in California and the other wants to get closer to her mother who is a famous stylist in London). The game begins and both will play out their roles as they try to reunite their parents and bring them back together as they both slowly fall in love, all over again.

Trama

La película trata de la historia de dos hermanas gemelas que, al nacer, fueron separadas desde bebés y se criaron individualmente con uno de sus padres (una con su papá y otra con su mamá). Sin embargo, por cosas de la vida, ellas se reencuentran años después, ambas teniendo casi 12 años de edad. Ambas se enteran de que son hermanas de nacimiento al ver que ambas poseían la mitad de una foto donde aparecen sus padres juntos.

Después de este encuentro inesperado de la vida, ambas deciden planear un “juego” el cual consiste en intercambiar papeles, para así conocer a sus padres que nunca han visto desde que eran bebés (una desea conocer a su padre que es dueño de un viñedo de California y la otra desea acercarse a su madre que es una estilista famosa de Londres). El juego inicia y ambas cumplirán con sus roles mientras intentan reunir de nuevo a sus padres y unirlos mientras ambos que enamoran poco a poco, de nuevo.

If I were to tell you the absurd amount of times I've seen this movie since I was a little kid on TV (it was usually almost always on and I always watched it). I consider it to be one of those movies that is so simple, low budget, but with a beautiful story to tell that grabs you and characters that you will have a lot of fun with. The theme of the comedy films that Disney put out back then were fascinating and worth admiring (not like now).

Lindsay Lohan does an excellent acting job, considering her young age, in this movie playing twins (if I'm not mistaken, she had a double for this). So much so that the actress received an enormous amount of praise and rave reviews at the time for her role. And, personally, I really enjoyed watching her act in such a natural way, as well as having a lot of fun with her lines and performances.

A form of comedy so wholesome that anyone in the family can watch it, that's what this movie is. But, what also fascinates me is the romantic story it has, which seems to be taken from a novel, yes, but with that comic and even casual touch that is already a cliché, but well done. Although it is true that what we see from the first minute of the film is, of course, a love story, the mixture with comedy is what catches and entertains a lot.

Si les dijera la cantidad tan absurda de veces que he visto esta película desde que era pequeño en la televisión (normalmente casi siempre se emitía y siempre la veía). Considero que es una de esas películas tan simples, con poco presupuesto, pero con una historia hermosa que contar que te atrapa y personajes con los cuales te divertirás bastante. El tema de las películas de comedia que Disney sacaba en en aquella época eran fascinantes y dignas de admirar (no como ahora).

Lindsay Lohan realiza un excelente trabajo de actuación, tomando en cuenta su corta edad, en esta película al interpretar a gemelas (sino me equivoco, se tuvo un doble para esto). Tanto fue que la actriz recibió una cantidad enorme de elogios y muy buenas críticas en su momento por su papel. Y, personalmente, me gustó mucho verla actuar de una forma tan natural, además de divertirme bastante con sus líneas e interpretaciones.

Una forma de comedia tan sana que cualquiera de la familia la puede ver, eso es esta película. Pero, lo que también me fascina es la historia tan romántica que tiene, la cual parece sacada de una novela, si, pero con ese toque cómico y hasta casual que ya queda como un cliché, pero bien hecho. Aunque sí es cierto que lo que vemos desde el primer minuto de la película es, por supuesto, una historia de amor, la mezcla que hacen con la comedia es lo que atrapa y entretiene bastante.

Reflection

Who hasn't come to feel so identified with this movie that, when you saw it, you wanted to find out if you really have a twin brother? I say that the tremendous impact that this simple and timeless romantic comedy film had on the culture was so great that even almost 30 years later it continues to give much to talk about and continues to be remembered with much affection.

A film that deeply touched a whole generation that, surely, most of us have lived in a somewhat dysfunctional family (especially in Latin America) and we have felt very identified with this film. In addition to the simple but perfect message of love it conveys, there is also the lesson of valuing your family and strengthening the bonds you have with your siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and fathers.

Apart from all this, I also like the way it shows us how the culture of that time was, as a cult gem that has deeply touched those of us who were born in the 90s. Undoubtedly, knowing what those times were like, the music, tastes, entertainment style and fashions of that time also has a great impact on those of us who like to get into nostalgia at times.

Personally, I give it a 9.5/10 rating as far as the romantic comedy genre is concerned.

Reflexión

¿Quién no ha llegado a sentirse tan identificado con esta película que, cuando la vió, quiso averiguar si de verdad tienes un hermano gemelo? Yo digo que el tremendo impacto que tuvo esta película de comedia romántica tan sencilla y atemporal en la cultura fue tanta que aún a casi 30 años después sigue dando mucho de qué hablar y sigue siendo recordada también con mucho cariño.

Una película que caló bien profundo en toda una generación que, seguramente, hemos vivido la mayoría en una familia un tanto disfuncional (sobre todo en Latinoamérica) y nos hemos sentido muy identificados con esta película. Fuera del mensaje de amor tan simple pero perfecto que transmite, también está la lección de valorar a tu familia y fortalecer esos lazos que tienes con tus hermanos, primos, tíos y padres.

Fuera de todo esto, también me gusta mucho la forma en la que nos muestra cómo era la cultura de aquella época, como una joya de culto que ha calado bien profundo a los que hemos nacido en los años 90s. Sin duda, conocer cómo eran aquellos tiempos, la música, los gustos, el estilo de entretenimiento y las modas de aquel entonces también impacta bastante a los que nos gusta mucho entrar en nostalgia en algunos momentos.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de la comedia romántica.
