I hope you are very well! For my part yesterday I saw "Sound of freedom", a production that has been talked about a lot this year, since before its release (July 4th in the United States) it was generating controversy, either by the media, people involved in the production or by different conspiracy theories that said that Hollywood was limiting its exhibition.
The film basically deals with pedophilia and child trafficking. It's a pretty touchy subject, but very real, we all hurt children less obviously those who hurt them. In addition to this, it is inspired by a true story, a part of the life of Tim Ballard (Jim Caviezel), a US national security agent. He is in charge of catching pedophiles, first from the intelligence side and then arresting them. He has a wife, a large family and is religious. This makes his work affect him deeply, every time he takes a case, he thinks of his children.
It all starts when after catching a pedophile, one of his colleagues asks him how many children he has found. This generates a shock in Tim and he tricks the offender by pretending to be one of them, so he manages to make his first ransom. It is a little boy named Miguel who was sold and rented, but his sister Rocio (Cristal Aparicio) is still missing and Miguel asks Tim to rescue her. This is how Tim's quest begins, along the way he rescues about 90 children from sex trafficking before finding Rocio and helping her return home.
To accomplish this he confronts his bosses, his job, goes far away from home and his family while on the mission, and has to pass himself off as a degenerate so as not to raise suspicions among the traffickers and have them agree to sell him the large number of children he is asking for, with the excuse of making an exclusive club for underage sex slaves.
I already knew practically everything about the movie long before I saw it, for the same reason that it has been very mediatic, I knew that it had dense parts that would make me cry. It seems to me a film with a very strong theme, however, all the violent aspect is very careful and the abuse suffered by children is not seen on camera, so, if even knowing about the subject you are encouraged to see it, I recommend it. The technical aspects are fine, although the most remarkable is the music, and the shots of Cartagena, a city with a beautiful historic center, it made my skin crawl to see the walled city from the top!
The box office was above expectations, grossing 100 million in its 16 days of release, which doesn't seem much for Hollywood, although this changes considering that its production was financed through a crowdfounding campaign by "Angel Studios", the only distributor that was interested in the project. Its box office has been a difficult issue, it is said that many people bought tickets through the "Pay it forward" platform, which was promoted as a "gift" for those who could not afford the ticket, and many people have said that in theaters that should have been full this was not the situation.
Whenever I see a movie BASED on a real case or a Biopic, I always wonder what will be real and what will be fiction? With this movie it was not the main thing, as the subject matter was quite real, but then reading about it Tim Ballard has said that evidently they had to fictionalize several aspects of the plot, in fact he has not claimed to have rescued the brothers in real life. Tim has also been accused for his work methodology, saying that he set traps and you know, the law is a tricky thing. Thank you very much for reading! ¡Espero estén muy bien! Por mi parte ayer vi “Sound of freedom”, una producción de la que se ha hablado mucho este año, desde antes de su estreno(4 de Julio en Estados Unidos) estuvo generando controversias, ya fuera por los medios de comunicación, personas implicadas en la producción o por diferentes teorías conspirativas que decían que Hollywood estaba limitando su exhibición.
La película básicamente aborda la pedofilia y la trata de niños. Es un tema bastante delicado, pero muy real, a todos nos duelen los niños menos obviamente quienes les hacen daño. Además de esto, es inspirada en una historia real, una parte de la vida de Tim Ballard (Jim Caviezel), un agente de seguridad nacional de Estados Unidos. Él se encarga de atrapar a pedófilos, primero desde el lado de la inteligencia y luego arrestarlos. Tiene esposa, una familia numerosa y es religioso. Esto hace que su trabajo le afecte profundamente, cada que lleva un caso, piensa en sus hijos.
Todo comienza cuando tras atrapar a un pedófilo, uno de sus compañeros le pregunta a cuantos niños ha encontrado. Esto genera un shock en Tim y engaña al delincuente haciéndose pasar por unos de ellos, así logra hacer su primer rescate. Es un niño pequeño de nombre Miguel que fue vendido y alquilado, pero su hermana Rocío (Cristal Aparicio) sigue desaparecida y Miguel le pide a Tim que la rescate. Así es como comienza esta búsqueda de Tim, en el camino rescata a unos 90 niños del tráfico sexual antes de encontrar a Rocío y ayudar a que vuelva a casa.
Para lograr esto se enfrenta a sus jefes, a su trabajo, se va lejos de casa y de su familia mientras está en la misión, y tiene que hacerse pasar por un degenerado para no levantar sospechas entre los traficantes y que accedan a venderle la gran cantidad de niños que está pidiendo, con la excusa de hacer un club exclusivo de esclavos sexuales menores.
Ya sabia prácticamente todo sobre la película desde mucho antes de verla, por lo mismo que ha sido muy mediática, sabía que tenía partes densas que me harían llorar. Me parece una película con un tema muy fuerte, sin embargo, todo el aspecto violento está muy cuidado y no se ve en cámara el maltrato que sufren los niños, así que, si aun sabiendo del tema se animan a verla, se las recomiendo. Los aspectos técnicos están bien, aunque lo más resaltable es la música, y las tomas de Cartagena, una ciudad con un centro histórico hermoso, se me erizó la piel ver la ciudad amurallada desde lo más alto!
La taquilla sobre paso lo esperado, recaudando a sus 16 días de estreno 100 millones, lo cual no parece mucho para Hollywood, aunque esto cambia considerando que su producción se financió a través de una campaña de crowdfounding por parte de “Ángel Studios”, la única distribuidora que se interesó en el proyecto. Lo de su taquilla ha sido un tema difícil, se dice que muchas personas compraron boletos a través de la plataforma “Pay it forward”, lo que se promocionaba como un “regalo” para quienes no pudieran pagar la entrada, y mucha gente ha dicho que en salas que debían estar llenas esta no era la situación.
Siempre que veo una película BASADA en un caso real o un Biopic, me pregunto ¿que será real y que será ficción? Con esta película no fue lo principal, ya que el tema era bastante real, pero luego leyendo sobre ella Tim Ballard ha dicho que evidentemente tuvieron que ficcionalizarse varios aspectos de la trama, de hecho no ha afirmado que haya rescatado a los hermanos en la vida real. No creo como muchos dijeron que esta pelicula revelara ningun secreto, pero si es importante ver que en cines se exhiba este tipo de contenido, y que sea comercial para que la gente lo sienta cercano y familiar. Gracias por leer y comentar!
