📽️👽 "Species". A representation of 90's science fiction.👽📽️

In the previous dynamic the theme was movies with aliens, despite having a lot of views with that quality I wanted to recommend some a little out of the ordinary on that occasion, and so this time we will try "Species" from 95. It is one of my favorite movies with this theme, I remember watching it with my fellow moviegoer at the time, my uncle. I was very little when I saw it for the first time, I must have been 5 or 6 years old, I was still living at my grandparents' house and I watched quite a lot of movies with my grandmother.

I never had a restriction with any genre, what was a topic of discussion were movies with graphic nudity or sexual scenes, like this one, in those cases my uncle and I managed to watch them, today I remembered it and decided to download it to watch it again, and boy has it aged well! The special effects, the half sexy scientific plot, the script...

Although by the end you can see the contrast between Sil turned into Alien and the rocks where they end up looking to kill her, but they are still not so bad considering the time, plus I saw it in 1080 quality. At the time it was successful at the box office, but moderately well received by critics.

Directed by Roger Donaldson. Starring Natasha Henstridge as Sil, Ben Kingsley as Xavier, Michael Madsen as Preston, Forest Whitaker as Dan, Alfred Molina as Stephan and Marg Helgenberger as Laura. Not least a young Michelle Williams as teenage Sil. It became a saga having in total 4 movies, I have only seen 1 and 2, I will talk about it in a next post.

👽 And what is "Species" about? 👽

It's a pretty simple plot, They gather a group of experts to hunt an alien and prevent it from reproducing.

In the following paragraph a summary of the whole movie, it contains SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!

Sil is a young female alien created in a laboratory using a new genetic code provided by beings from outer space, she is a human-alien hybrid. Her growth is very fast and when the scientists who are in charge of her realize that maybe they should have meditated a little more the situation before creating her they try to kill her, this is not possible, since she is an evolution of the human being, she is very powerful, strong, fast, cunning. She escapes from the laboratory and arrives in Los Angeles, mutating into an adult and leaving death in her wake, there she learns about the behavior and way of life of human beings.

Meanwhile, the team that will hunt her is formed by Dr. Xavier Fitch, Head of the Operation and one of the creators of Sil, Preston Lennox, a kind of government hired killer, Dan Smithson, psychic, Dr. Stephan, Anthropologist Expert in Multicultural Behavior and Dr. Laura Baker, Cellular Biologist. The hunting team will try to follow in their footsteps, but the prey is always ahead of them, he has psychic abilities so he knows when they are close, in fact he manipulates Dr. Xavier to return to the club where one of his attacks occurred to continue looking for a sexual partner, he has already set his sights on the men of the hunting team.

After a vehicle chase, Sil tricks them by pretending to be dead and the still-controlled Dr. declares the mission completed. Dan has presentiments, and they are real because Sil is alive and having relations with Dr. Stephan, that's how she manages to get pregnant and flees to give birth, while she is finishing with the team until finally Laura, Preston and Dan kill her and her offspring and they are left as survivors.

📽️👽 Curiosities 👽📽️

• Sil's Alien form is designed by graphic artist H. R. Giger, the same who designed the xenomorph in "Alien". He was inspired by insects such as the praying mantis for his design.

• Pierce Brosman refused to participate in the film due to scheduling conflicts with his first James Bond movie.

• In addition to the saga in audiovisual format, 2 comic books were published as a continuation of Species.
